Goodnight Wishes!
Mama Mouse is running as fast as her little legs can carry her, while holding onto her two frightened babies, an armful of cherished heirlooms, and a basketful of food! The old abandoned farmhouse is being demolished, forcing the little mice family to leave their cozy home and to run for their lives! What is Mama to do? Where will she find shelter for her family? Nighttime arrives as Mama, tired and scared, calls out to the vast heavens above for help and guidance... and WOW... does she get answers!
Her cries for help bring about a couple of strange occurrences that Mama quickly recognizes as "opportunities" to help her family in the midst of their crisis. With her babies in hiding and sleeping the night away, she instantly rolls up her sleeves and gets to work!
The combination of beautiful illustrations and eloquent poetry creates an inspirational bedtime story of how even the tiniest of animals on earth are connected to the stars, the moon, and the universe. An ideal book for teaching little ones of how hopes and dreams can be realized, not by just wishing, but by taking action and doing good things toward achieving your desires, along with a little gratitude for what you already have.

This is a sweet story with beautiful illustrations. Leea did a wonderful job depicting this story. Plenty to look and and discuss.
Being a believer in Jesus and through whom all things were created, I hesitate to highly recommend this book because it trembles on top of the fence with wishes (hence the name of the story) and prayers of the mama mouse. The stars and moon do tell the mama that the blessings come from the one who created them, but most of the story is about wishing with all your heart, and blessings coming after wishing and doing as much as you can.
Without getting into deep theological reasoning here I can see how this book is perfect for those kinds of discussions that Christians want to have with their children even as young as three years old. It is sure to draw out questions as long as you make sure your child is getting the message you want her or him to hear.
This book can go either way... just a fun, sweet story with a wonderful happy ending, or a way to talk to your child about belief in God the Creator, prayers, and how blessings do come from prayers when faith is exercised.
I am going to read this to my granddaughter who loves Jesus with all her heart even at 3 years old. I am going to talk to her about the difference between wishes and prayers. I think it is a great discussion starter which is why I gave it 4 stars. If it had greater emphasis on God than on wishing on the moo, I would have given it 5 stars.

A family of mice lived in a rickety old farmhouse that suited their needs perfectly. One day people came and began tearing their home down. Mama mouse placed her children and some food in a basket and ran down to the lake. She wished upon the stars and moon to help her find a way to solve her plight. Suddenly, she heard a screeching sound. A truck swerved to avoid hitting an animal, and a large box fell off the truck. The moonlight illuminated a hollow tree that would make a perfect home. Upon exploring the contents of the box, Mama finds all the materials she needs to furnish their new home. She urges her children to make a wish upon the heavens because when you make a wish and are willing to work hard good things will follow.
This tale teaches children that wishing alone is not enough, one must work hard to achieve success. Christian parents might explain the moral in a Christian contest. The illustrations are done in beautiful watercolors. The rhyming text is crisp and sharp. Recommended for primary grade children

Fascinating to a 6 month old -- a new favorite!
The story was sweet and the rhymes were musical and natural. It's a little advanced for babies to comprehend, but simple enough for them to enjoy anyway. The pictures were beautifully done and the mice were adorable. It kept my overtired grandson relatively quiet while I read it to him -- that makes it a keeper!
