Publisher's Description: Dr. Mona Signoretti has the rare ability to shield her Infinitas life energy from others, making her appear human. She uses that talent by going undercover for a special FBI unit to investigate one of her species suspected of developing a deadly toxin to gain power in the human world. If she fails, not only are humans at risk, but also the mission to save her race from destruction. When her role is discovered and her life-sustaining energy threatened, an all-too-human agent, Grant Thornton, is assigned to keep her alive—not an easy task in a world where enemies refuse to die.

Review: Not a lot of reviews out on this one, but dang they are of the 5 star variety. I don't know about 5 stars, but lets read on to find out.

The Good- Initially this was really well written (cogent) and the premise is spot on. Alien hottie immortal, seeking evidence of a bio-toxin aimed at killing humanity. Ah, the stage was set for a pretty kick ass novel with a tough and interesting heroine leading the charge.

The Bad- But....sadly no. After a lab disaster aimed at killing Dr. Alien Hottie-Pants, Carey Grant Huge Johnson saves the day and therein after, Mona has her head buried in his lap. Forget that she is a 2,000 year old alien with literally years of experience and wisdom behaving like a hormone addled adolescent.

The Ugly- The dialogue within various scenes lacks not only logical progression but fails at making a cogent argument about what is being considered. Usually when you have two people making assumptions, developing hypothesis and communicating in a iterative way, there is a culmination of rational perspectives that embraces a choice or two. In this novel, all the assumptions are made by asshats that 1) have nothing to do with the story line 2) wander to and fro and then totally abandon the initial premise 3) are extremely juvenile and pedantic in approach to the problem, and 4) spit out some non-related outcome that suddenly moves the story line in the direction intended.

Well, once again I am reminded that just because it says science fiction and has a snazzy cover does not mean that the content is rife with romantically inclined trash. My sincerest wish is that romance writers stay out of the SciFI/Fantasy genres and build a novel like all the others- set on a dude ranch, strawberry blonde hair with heaving breasts, that "bitch" mother-in-law, love triangles, sniffing bodies that smell like pine needles/chocolate musk and lots of sketchy pasts that erased all trust...blah, blah, blah.

Mona and Grant come together in an explosive round about way when they are thrown together to solve the unsolvable, or is it all unsolvable or is Mona keeping secrets?

Grant is your average FBI agent...lol yeah right an average agent would never get this gig but Grant was specifically chosen to keep Dr Mona Signoretti alive.... The thing is Grant is human just a human FBI agent and Mona, well Mona isn't, just your average human lol Dr Mona Signoretti is an Infinitas with a rare ability to shield her Infinitas life force energy which makes her appear human which is a neat trick right, an intriguing trick and one her own kind would kill for literally, which is why she needs Grant to keep her safe.

This story was amazing there was a bit of everything politics, adventure, action, travel, bio weapons, alien technology and even a bit of romance that made for a gripping and enjoyable read that was hard to put down.

I picked this book up to read since I loved the author's "Hawker" series (and I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd installment in that series) because of the strong story-lines and solid characters. This book did not disappoint me either. The writing was strong and fast paced, the character development was timely and sufficient as the book progressed. There were some nice twists and reveals that kept me turning the pages and the ending left me excited for the next book in the series, "To Kill Again". I don't read a lot of sci-fi, but this was one I'm glad I read.

I've read (and thoroughly enjoyed being sucked into) Sandy Parks's two other series (Repossessed & Outfoxed, Off the Chart & Under the Radar), and I honestly have never thought of myself as being interested in anything even remotely "paranormal," so imagine my surprise when To Die Again turned out to be so entertaining and totally riveting! Well-crafted was a given, since Sandy is that good a writer, but I think having her "special" characters blend in so well with the general population really helped to capture and hold my interest. I must admit that my science background was also engaged throughout. This is quite literally a book I did not want to put down, sleep be damned. Anticipation for the next in the series is running rampant.

The action in To Die Again grabs you at the very beginning of the novel. Sandy Parks, the author, deftly explains the science that propels the book. To Die Again is well-written and presents a fantastically intriguing plot.

Mona, our female protagonist, is complicated, beautiful and not human. Mona is s larger than life character. She bravely tries to save her technician in the first few pages. Mona’s intelligence is another admirable trait. She has a mission and nothing can stop her.

Grant is just doing his job. But he finds himself in the middle of something he can’t easily explain. There are twists, turns and even some romance is this exciting novel.

I received a free ARC of this novel via Hidden Gems to honestly review.

I had never read anything from Ms Parks before but I will definitely keep her on my radar from now on. I had a slight hard time getting into the book but once I got past the first chapter I raced through the rest of it. The story is very compelling and I look forward to its continuation. If you're into fantasy or mystery you'll enjoy this book for sure!

This is my first read from this author but definitely not my last. A fast paced story with a strong female lead I was captivated from start to finish. A great mix of mystery and romance. I look forward to more.

What a terrific premise to base the book on--- aliens in a secret society living on earth, side by side with humans. The adventure begins at a dead run and never slows down. I had to read this one in one sitting--- do not miss this!

Very fast paced thriller about a woman on a mission and the man who is assigned to protect her. The humor is in just the right spots to prevent the story from becoming too intense. Yes, it has a bit of romance, but the main storyline is the characters who live among us and their capabilities.

How I Got This Book

I received this book as an early reader copy from Hidden Gems

The Good

This novel starts off with a bang. The first part of it is a fast-paced action ride that keeps you turning the pages. But that is about where it stopped for me. But since this is the good section, I will get to that later. Dr. Mona Signoretti is a special person, with special powers, for lack of a better word, imbued in her due to her unique racial physiology. She can survive things that many in this world wouldn’t. She is a well-rounded character that is simple to relate to, even though not many of us are a different species and as intelligent as she is. She is an excellent example of a strong female lead for a novel. Grant Thornton is another example of a great character. He is tough, handsome, and intelligent. He is a no-nonsense kind of guy who is there to do his job, and when that gets screwed up he refuses to be left in the dark.

The Bad

Unfortunately, this book didn’t keep my attention throughout it. I do my best to never stop reading a book, even if it can’t hold my interest. Well at least I try to keep reading it if I plan on reviewing it here on my blog. This one took me way too long to make it through. I can’t even tell you half of what happened honestly, because I kept putting it down and when I finally picked it back up I wasn’t as interested in reading it anymore. It could be because I am more a fantasy reader then I am science fiction (which I need to remember when I am requesting arcs…) but this was a novel that I was unable to get in to.

Final Thoughts

Okay so I may not have enjoyed this, but I am sure that any avid science fiction readers would absolutely love this book. This won’t affect my rating, as that is my opinion, but I would say that for the low price, it could be worth it to pick this book up.

Lots of new terms and characters since it is the first of series that are not always easy to keep separate. The list at the beginning tries to help clarify but does not give enough description for me to keep everything straight. The over all plot is good and the lead up to the climax is exciting. The ending is a cliffhanger though.

Still planning to keep reading the series because it does leave you feeling connect to the heroes and wanting to solve the bigger plot.

An interesting story

I wasn't sure at first what to think with this story, but was very much drawn in by the various characters and the intriguing world built around them. I appreciated the way the story was told and how we got to hear from a variety of character's perspectives. Some writers are clunky at this style, but Parks does it very well.

Exciting

The story was exciting and interesting. I felt like I only got to read three quarters of the story. Why did you end it that way?

I really loved this book!! The author, Sandy Parks, writes in a way that makes readers feel like the are in the story, beside the characters. Dr. Signoretti fights for the future of her kind, a secret society of beings with special talents and the ability o regeneration. But she comes to realize that she holds in her heart, her own motivation pushing her investigation. Will she let her guard down enough to love again? If she does, will it cost her more of her infinities lives? Or, the lives of those she cares about?
This is a book you'll want to stay up late to finish reading.
Definitely, hard to put it down!
