The dead rise...
Trapped in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Lilian is caught up in a maelstrom of death when the outbreak hits Johannesburg, a city numbering in the millions. With no one to rely on but herself, she has to find a way off the bloody streets before it's too late. But with a six-month-old baby and a hysterical toddler in tow, escape seems unlikely.

Battered and abused, Maria looks back upon her life with husband Rolf with loathing. Caught in a prison from which she cannot escape, she's powerless to change her destiny and forever bound to a man she hates. Until the virus grants her an unexpected chance at revenge.

All it takes is one mistake...
As the sun sets against the backdrop of the African veldt and living nightmares walk the streets in the shape of their loved one's bodies, humanity's last hope rests in the hands of ordinary men and women called to do extraordinary things.

A heart-pounding collection of short stories featuring characters that were introduced in the first book of the "Dangerous Days" series. Some of the stories feature backgrounds to main characters at the start of the Zombie Apocalypse, some are the stories of relatives of survivors and one is an after story of a character who chose to remain behind and what happened to him. Even though it's listed as a prequel, it's really more of a flashback and should be read AFTER the first book. An anxiety filled, thrilling look at the start of the Apocalypse in the draining heat of a South African summer.

I was cautious when I saw the author had decided to do a kind of prequel to give the main characters in the book a history. I didn't see the need.... 'wrong'!! It was the same for The Walking Dead, I thought 'why a prequel?' until I watched Fear the Walking Dead and loved it.

This is Higgins at her best, imo, as the descriptions are detailed enough for you to envision the story in your mind and you care for the characters even though the stories are short for each one. I'm glad I waited until I'd read the first 3 books before reading this, that was just my preference.

If you enjoy zombie stories, this is an author you should read. Highly recommended.

The chapters in this short story fill in some of the gaps from the first book in this series. Again, the South African setting makes this a unique take on Zombie fictions for American readers.

Totally forgot I'd read this back at the start of the year. It's a typical Higgins story of making you like the characters, you're invested, and then they're gone...eaten or changed. If you like zombie stories with character development and a Walking Dead feel, I'd recommend.

Survive Another Day is a great start to a new series. It tells the stories of several different characters as the zombie outbreak happens for them. At first they have no idea what is going on. They have no clue why people are attacking them and trying to eat them. But instinct kicks in and they fight for their lives by killing zombies or just running away if that is enough or possible that is.

Survive Another Day tells the stories of different characters as they battle their way through zombies. Just to mention a few of the characters experiences with zombies…

One woman is trying to escape zombies with her two children, a toddler and an infant in a car seat just trying to make her way to safety.

Another story is about two men who go AWOL, they walk off a military base...they just want to get home to their families to keep them safe…

Another woman finds herself surrounded by the dead and trying to fight her way out….

Another of two little girls who see a gate open and want to go outside and play...believing that the adults have killed all the zombies...innocents of children.

Baileigh Higgins is a great storyteller….With each character you feel what they feel. You feel their fear as they go up against a zombie. You can feel their anxiety as they are trying to get home to their families. You feel their sadness as they are wondering and thinking about the people they love and care about not knowing if they are dead or alive. You can feel it rushing through your veins as wave after wave hits you with each turn of a page.

You can feel the sadness, the fear...the anger...the anxiousness rushing out at you from more than one character at the same time as they fight zombies together. There are times when you feel like crying from happiness and sadness all at the same time as you are wondering what each character in the same scene is feeling. I can’t wait to start the first book in the Dangerous Days Series, Last Another Day.

I would recommend Survive Another Day to all zombie, post-apocalyptic and horror stories. If you like/love shows like The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond as I do then you are going to absolutely fall in love with Survive Another Day. I know I have. So one-click your copy of Survive Another Day to begin this epic zombie fighting journey today!

During the first days of the apocalypse ordinary men and women are trying to understand what is happening. Going to the supermarket because they forgot something can be the last thing they've ever done. Nobody understands what the effect will be once they've been bitten. With innocent ignorance they all go home suspecting a full recovery from the wound. Little do they know, that because of them their loved ones will be fighting for their lives, trying to survive another day. Who has the strength and the luck to make it out alive?

Survive Another Day tells the background stories of the characters we got to know in the first book of the Dangerous Days series, Last Another Day. Some of the characters are instantly recognizable and some of them will be lesser known. I loved to read about the first days when the world they knew has ended forever. It feels more real learning about how some of them got infected and what their lives were like. These tragic events fortunately have survivors as well. The stories evolve around the following question, how will you keep going when everything you held dear has been taken away from you?

Survive Another Day contains eight chapters about different people who were confronted with the walking dead. Even though these are short stories, they tell a full tale and they all grabbed me immediately. Baileigh Higgins makes you feel the fear that her characters are feeling. I absolutely love it when I get lost in a story. Ever since I started Last Another Day I've been hooked on this series. I read Survive Another Day in one sitting and I started in the next book immediately.

This book is numbered #0 because it is the prequel to book #1 but I would strongly advise to read it AFTER book #1! If you do so, you will of cause know all the outcome of these little stories but it is still interesting to hear more about those characters already known from book #1.
I can't imaging how you feel when you read the books in order as you will know a lot already and the tension in book #1 will be less. I'd prefer it the other way round.
For the content: nice collection of anecdotes of the characters or running up events to book #1 but not necessary to understand the series.

Here we have a limited time and substance prequel to the Dangerous Days series. The location is South Africa which is different. The reviews criticize Tremblay’s attempt at a South African accent but I wouldn’t know the difference. The outbreak type, origin, or architect? So far, aside from the unique location, this appears to be a standard zombie thriller. Hopefully, the next volume will improve for me. Three.point.five for potential.

3.5 rounded up.

This is a mixed bag. It's cool that it is set in South Africa. I wish some of the characters were more likable. The writing was somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes it was amazing and other times it was repetitive and cliche. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. I have the other 4 books to read.
My only real complaint is the narrator for the audiobook tries to put on different accents and he is not particularly good at it.

Survive Another Day is a new look by a great writer. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes this genre. I know the next books will be just as good as this one. Baileigh has a starter set that you will not want to miss, and it is free. For my money, Baileigh is the best.

Lovely fun read

This was a nice quick read of short stories to go along with only a couple characters from the first book, but not all of them. This short read was a real teaser, but I want to read more.

What a story. The Apocalypse is here and surviving is the most important thing. How do you do that with a baby and a toddler? Lillian has no choice, she has to at least try. Impossible to put down until the end.

I got this book as one of the 3 books the author gave to new readers for subscribing to her newsletter. Though I'm not really a fan of zombies and vampires, I found this book interesting. It's a good book, Worth the read.

A must read

This is a well written prequel to Dangerous Days. The stories of the characters we love or despise that lead up to our meeting with them when their world ended. I highly recommend his one!

This collection of short stories tell the background of some of the key characters in book one of the series. They are very interesting and informative but be forewarned: there are tons of spoilers if you haven’t already read the first book.

I have the omnibus edition of this series and this book is a set of shorts that deal with some of the characters from the main story and those they left behind.

It's gruesome for sure but gives a background that helps define the story and characters as a whole.

Good.

I listened to the audiobook and was thrown at first by all the narrations of different characters. However, it worked in the end to see all the characters struggling through the same event with various complications arising. It felt pretty real and I enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend

Significant improvement to the first book. I did like this. Nothing crazy. It’s like 2 pages long, but it told all the behind the stories from the first book. You get to learn about what happened to Logan’s parents before he finds them. That was worth the whole book right there.

Excellent

One of the best zombie books. So deeply enjoyed how the Donnie's were left to my imagination. I wish the book had been far longer but still, a enjoyable read.

If anything this book is better than the last. It interweaves beautifully but I believe you could read them as stand alone works. The enjoyment is greatly enriched by reading the series!
