Not being a gin drinker (or indeed a drinker of alcohol of any kind - I just don't like it!) I bought this book as a present for my daughter, who like her late Mum, loves a tipple of gin now and again. Before giving it to her I thought I would read it to see what I might be missing!
Most observations in this book are anonymous but a few are noted and one I like is by Noël Coward who commented, 'A perfect Martini should be made by filling a glass with gin then waving it in the general direction of Italy'. Silly but amusing!
Another attributed, this time to Winston Churchill is 'The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives and minds than all the doctors in the Empire'. Possible I suppose but Winston probably said this after one or two gins himself!
One that my daughter could probably subscribe to is 'Coffee keeps me going until it's acceptable to drink gin'. I'll stick to the coffee however! Deborah would probably also appreciate 'The best tonic has a large gin in it.'
Finally 'A day without gin is like ... I have no idea'. I would, of course, replace the last four words with FINE!!
I imagine the people who drink gin would appreciate this more than myself but it is quite fun.
