Straight from Rooster Teeth’s hit animation series, a new four-volume anthology series featuring stories from various manga creators, each focusing on a different member of Team RWBY!
The world of Remnant is filled with horrific monsters bent on the destruction of humanity. Fortunately, the kingdoms of the world have risen to combat these forces by training powerful Huntsmen and Huntresses at academies around the planet. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long are four such Huntresses in training.
These stories, ranging from silly to serious, all star Yang, Ruby's fiercly loyal big sister with a stern but sensitive personality and tough-as-nails battle skills (with attitude to match)! From a team of exciting new manga artists comes the fourth volume in a series of short story collections showcasing Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang!
Oum was an American web-based animator and writer. A self-taught animator, he scripted and produced several crossover fighting video series, drawing the attention of internet production company Rooster Teeth, who hired him. There, he provided custom animations for Red vs. Blue, and created the original animated series RWBY.
Oum attracted attention within the gaming community after releasing the hit video Haloid in 2007 on GameTrailers, which a Destructoid article called "the most interesting Halo-related fan movie in existence".The video has received more than 4 million views and is the most watched user-created content on the site In October of the same year, he released the first video in his Dead Fantasy fan series which, like Haloid, featured fantastical combat sequences between characters from two different established games series (this time Dead or Alive and Final Fantasy). He released five episodes of Dead Fantasy, a preview of an additional episode and two music videos featuring the heroines of the series. After Oum announced that he had started working for Rooster Teeth, the series was put on hold.
Oum suffered a severe allergic reaction during a medical procedure and fell into a coma on January 22, 2015. He died on February 1, 2015.
As the fourth and final book of the official RWBY manga, this was my all time favourite.
Yang—the person this book is mainly focused on—is super funny and relatable. She has a great sense of humour even if she can only tell dad jokes. Her bonds with everyone on her team are super pure and lovable. Yang is like the big sister of the team, she looks out for everyone yet still is funny and cool.
My favourite parts of this book are Umiya’s art and story and when her ahoge gets cut off.
If you’ve watched RWBY and love yang as much as I do, I 100% recommend this book to you.
I find myself in the same vein of review this one the same way I did the Weiss issue. All of these artists basically had the reign to make some original and interesting side/back story for these characters, but as I read through them it basically felt like I was reading the exact same story points in every little episode. It's disappointing because it feels like a missed opportunity to branch out and have some fun with these characters.
One of the best examples of what they could have been doing is short where Yang gets into it with the Malachite twins, who we basically haven't seen since the yellow trailer. These characters were essentially non-existent in the show so the artist had some free reign to play around with these characters, and it ended up being the most interesting part of the book. This was new, different, and interesting. This is what I wanted to see with these anthologies.
But sadly, this feels like it falls into the same rut the weiss volume did: Yang likes to make jokes, Yang likes to treat blake like a cat, Yang fights with Ruby but protects her little sister. We get these stories like 5 times. It sucks because Yang is my favorite character but she comes off as one note in this.
I love RWBY. I really do, but the fact is these manga anthologies could have been so much more. I would have liked see these artists do some really unique one offs that could have totally fit within the show canon, instead of just reiterating the tropes we've established ad nauseam. I am wondering if we are going to get some JNPR issues, because they are side characters and would give the artists more freedom. We'll have to see.
I want to love it more, but this is 3 stars at best.
Fun book that focuses on her being an older sister and coming to terms with being equals with her Younger Sister. I really enjoy how these books are more of a character story in short bursts than a continuation of the show. They each stand alone very well. Now just hoping I can find a copy of Vol 3 in English as its almost impossible right now.
I feel like there were a lot of stories that were just...pointless? Like, no story, no plot, no further character study? Just, a few drawings of yang...
But, there were also a few stories that stood out to me as they branched out, did something different and even dared to touch into the aftermath of RWBY vol. 3 (like, give the emotionally hitting stuff, please!).
So, this kind of balances out to mediocre again...sorry.
I fucking love with Yang. So this ended up being a little underwhelming, as in rather than a Yang dedicated comic it seemed more a group comic, same feeling I got with the Ruby one. I feel like The Weiss and Blake ones managed to balance the focus on them better. It does touch, very (por encima? how do I say that in English?) little, very superficially, some of Yang's anxieties and worries. I wish there was more of that, of her growing up taking care of Ruby and how that reflects on how she acts now. The Bumbleby moments were cute and sweet, I wish there was more of how Yang feels about Blake without the joking, just like in the previous volume. But overall I enjoyed it. It's a compilation of funny little moments after all.
I find some of these to be silly little stories with too much Bumblebey content for my liking. I liked the little stories about Yang growing up having to raise Ruby on her own and we got an insight to what it really was like for Yang. I’d rather have that than Bumblebey content which is my least ship ever in the series when BlackSun clearly showed more natural chemistry, but that’s a rant for another time. These Anthologies aren’t canon so I guess it’s okay that we get Bumblebey content but honestly I’ll save the Bumblebey rant for another time but honestly I’m more so looking forward to when the main series manga starts coming out.
I love yang character ♥️, she's spend her time with her team, her partner, her sister, villain's n all the people she met n knew them. I love some of the story especially the illustration.

Man oh man, I have mixed feelings on this volume, and I'm sad to even say that. Yang is, by far, my favorite character from RWBY, and I do feel that to some extent this volume of anthology let me down just a little bit.
Up until this one, I had had the impression that all of these anthologies were made prior to or during the release of volume 3 of the show. This installment proved that assumption incorrect, and I have to say that the recurring jabs at the Fourth Wall used to prove it aren't exactly ones I found funny.
I love Yang and she deserved an anthology volume that built upon the greater aspects of her rather than just the "funny tough girl", but that isn't what she got, which is a little heartbreaking. I would have loved to have seen a greater look into how other creators collaborating on this project took the time to examine her character further and build upon it, but I suppose I was expecting too much.
This is worth reading for the sake of entertainment, especially if you're a fan of the main animated series, you love the character, and you've read through the other three, but don't expect many stories that are very deep or well-written. There is only one story that really sort of plays on that, a story where little Yang talks with Qrow, and even that isn't enough to really save this volume.
First of all for this particular anthology if you haven't watched through season 3 of the show of Rwby you probably shouldn't read Yang's book to start out with because there are major spoilers put into effect throughout the series about stuff that happened in those volumes. Because of that occurring in this manga and not the others that I noticed, it took me out of the story some because there wasnt a cohesive timeline with the stories. (They also made fun of that in one of the panels which was funny but could not be for other people) I also wish there was more character growth with Yang or more backstory with her than we already received from the other anthologies and the show but the art style is beautiful and truly showed the characters signature looks. Because of these points I have to give this manga a 3.5-4 out of 5 stars. I truly enjoyed this and hope there are more Rwby mangas to come!
The second-best installment in the series (behind Red Like Roses). Once again, you don't need to have read the other three anthologies to read this one. You do, however, need to have seen the show — especially Volumes 1-3 which this has spoilers for. Unlike some of the other books in this series, I did not find any of the stories in this anthology to be repetitive. They all explored different aspects of Yang's character. My favorite story was Operation Sloppy Planning by Moromoimaru. I definitely preferred the more comedic stories in this; however, it was still great to see a mix. This anthology, in particular, felt a lot more self-aware than the others and there were parts in multiple stories where the character break the fourth wall which I enjoyed. All of the art was great as well, like in the other anthologies. Overall, this is worth trying if you are a fan of RWBY along with the other installments.
Yang Xiao Long sparked the least amount of interest in me from the original RWBY character trailers back in the day, but she quickly became one of my favorites once I got into the series proper. Her flamboyant and devil-may-care personality is on full display in the "I Burn" anthology, though the book fails to take full advantage of the depths of her character's connections with the rest of her team.
A lot of the stories feel the same either with a silly attitude or with similar themes (flashbacks of her reading Ruby stories while the two were growing up, her and Ruby having sisterly tiffs). And while these themes do lead to some well-done chapters -- "Gold" is the best part of the book, and "Semblance Challenge" is so delightfully ridiculous that I can't help but love it -- it leaves me wanting for more variety in the story-telling.
Overall, it's not bad, and fans will enjoy their fair share of installments, but it left me wanting more.
When I bought this volume I realized how short it was compared to the other three, but I was still hopeful going into it. To be honest it was kind of a bit boring to me, I still liked a few of the stories and I did love the art styles. But I don’t know, they just made Yangs character more boring then she was. I was so looking forward to this one too. I really liked the other 3 volumes so I thought okay I’m going to like this one, Yang isn’t my favorite character but I like her personality and development. I wish there was just more to it that people could write about for her.
I love Rwby and I'll always love any Rwby related content. But as I literally never read manga I find it hard to tell if it's good or not. Anyway, I enjoyed this, it was fun and lightpy entertaining. I found some of the short stories a little confusing, am unsure if it's me being unused to Manga style or the storytelling itself. Still, definitely plan to get the rest of the anthology at some point!
4.5, but I round up most of the time. This was my favorite of the anthologies, and not just because it's Yang! The easter eggs for shipping fans were the tiniest little nuggets that it was easy to keep seeing it a just friends. Most of the stories seemed to focus on friendships and sisterhood, which I LOVED. The best story was the one with Qrow when they're younger. SUCH A GOOD BACKSTORY!!
It was fun! I think I liked Ruby and Weiss's stories better. But it was refreshing to see Yang having fun again vs the current seasons. She's a strong woman and is very protect of her team mates and that warms my heart. I just felt we could have gotten a little more stories out of this manga.
I really liked this last one to tie the three together. It was fun going through all four books and seeing all the parallels I could find. This one did get a little confusing with timeline so I don’t recommend taking all parts canonically. I recommend reading this after watching vol 3 of RWBY for context.
I love Yang. She's feminine, but also powerful. The best of both worlds. I think having characters like that is good for young kids, so that they can believe in themselves and what they're capable of.
But Yang also has her share of problems, like every character. No one's perfect. And I love that RWBY doesn't pretend that they are. It shows the good sides, and the bad sides.
Another great anthology, fun side stories. Seems a bit shorter than the previous books, but that might be my imagination. Thanks to all the illustrators for their work on these, I think they did a great job.
