What a poignant and sad story of a boy sent away because his mother cannot cope, and of how he progresses from a boarding school to a Children’s Home. One gets the impression that without parental support he could well have ended up in Borstal or pehaps inna life of crime.I knew nothing about these Children Villages and was amazed at the physical work they did ,and often dangerous.A haunting read.

excellent...captures childhood in a way that makes me think of Angela's Ashes. Poignant and insightful about Britain's attitudes toward Jews in the era immediately before they became involved in WWII?
