“Always a matchmaker, never a match.”

Lexi Balefire has magical intuition. She's a witch (who has yet to awaken her true powers), but she certainly has match-making skills that are just... well, magical. Plus, she has 4 faerie godmothers, so they certainly help her along in life.

Note to the discerning reader: There are mild swear words used throughout the story. Also, there are some “mature” scenes (but it's not sleazy).

Overall? It was alright.

I have always been a fan of underdog stories, or in this case underwitch. Lexi Balefire is a half-witch with no powers. A disgrace to her family name, luckily, she has no family left to tell her so. It's just her and her 3 fairy godmothers who will leave on her 25th birthday if Lexi can't awaken her powers. And that doesn't leave a lot of time. Plus, she's busy. She runs her own matchmaking service which isn't as easy as it looks.

She always finds a perfect match but when one of her past clients

Even with a Fairy Godmother nothing is ever easy and Alexis Balefire is on the edge of a major meltdown. This book was funny and told a great story. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

What does this witchy book have that others don't? Well it isn't a witch who is the last of her line but doesn't have her powers, although that is true of Lexi. That has happened before in many books. It isn't a witch who can help others find true love but can not keep a boyfriend, although that is true of Lexi. That also has happened before in many books. It isn't a non-helpful familiar, or not remembering her mother, or not having another witch to teach her...been there done that in many ...more

Best if you read the psychic seasons series first.

Only draw back is errors in the kindle edition are hideous.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go

Lexi is the last in a long and storied line of witches, the Balefire witches, whose job it is to keep the Balefire burning so that once a year, other witches can use the flame to light their Beltane fires. Unfortunately for Lexi, she has yet to Awaken to her own magical abilities, and at the age of 24, time is running out. If she doesn't Awaken by her 25th birthday, the Balefire will become the responsibility of the next closest witch, who just so happens to be Lexi's nemesis, Serena Snodgrass. ...more

This is a fun story. Lexi owns a matchmaking business but is single herself..its not that shes ugly, but living with 4 faerie godmothers doesnt help...especially when they are sisters and real faeries !! Each sister has their own magic elements. Lexi was handed down a family gift and is the witches " keeper of the ritual flame" in her fireplace. She must tend to by feeding it magic because if the fire went out..oh boy bad things would happen. Only problem is that she has no magic...sure she has ...more

I thought this book was cute, not my usual style but still good. I got this book for free from Barnes & Nobles nook book Free Friday's event. I haven't read a good book about witches in a while so I figured I would give this a shot. If you don't want the ending spoiled, quit reading NOW! (view spoiler) ...more

Cover/title: Although the cover here is fine, the cover on my copy is adorable with the witch sitting on top of the house. The title is what really drew me in. It is just a fun title.

Characters: There are so many fun characters in this book, I doubt that I could pick a favorite. I love the fairy godmothers. Their antics make me smile. Salem is another fun and quirky character.

Plot: I love the story line. There is a lot happening in this book including a few surprising twists. I won't say

How does it feel to come from a long line of powerful witches and not be able to cast anything? Alexis, Lexi, Balefire can tell you that it's no picnic. She's skilled enough to know when two people are destined to be together and her matchmaking service grew from this ability. Lexi tries to enjoy her success and not dwell on her multiple failed attempts to awaken her magical abilities but it's difficult to do when her faery godmothers keep secrets from her. These secrets could change her life as ...more

An interesting fantasy/paranormal witch story with characters that have potential, but need a bit more depth. I had a hard time getting into the story as it hopped around a bit, but that has happened with other books and I have gone on to really like the series. I will read the next book in the series to see if it grabs me, but I am hoping the plot has a bit more meat on the bones than this one did. This was like an introduction to a cast of characters with an outline of how they came to be a ...more

The characters, apart from Salem (but only later on) weren't that interesting or well-rounded. I get that there had to be four fairy godmothers because of the elements, but it meant (relatively) a lot of characters that I still don't know a lot about and any descriptions were physical and often repeated.

I also missed excitement and some serious conflict. To be honest, I was a bit bored. I decided to pick it up and finish it anyway, after leaving it for a few months, and it picked up the

Lexi Balefire. A witch with no powers that is in charge of keeping the Balefire lit. Only one of the most important jobs she could have.

The problem? If she doesn't get her magic by the time she turns twenty-five, the window closes for her forever. Add to it the fact that she was raised by three elemental fairies, her grandmother is a stone ornament on the lawn, and her mother is dead. The key to unlocking her magic is supposed to be passed through the family tree and now Lexi has no family to

At times there’s a need for a light hearted, fun story. A Match Made in Spell fills this need. Don’t take it too seriously, read with a sense of humor and you will have spent a relaxing bit of time with this book. It is the first in a series of six books under the ‘Fate Weaver’ heading.

A bit more background would have been fun but the missing info is not a deal breaker. I feel the pieces will fall into place as the series unfolds. After reading this introductory story I’ve purchased the set of

This was fun to read!

I normally read cozy mysteries which have a murder or some other crime in the first few chapters. I expected the same in this book. It is nothing like that. When I started reading about witches with fairy godmothers, I considered not even finishing. Blame it on the writing or the interesting storyline, but I read it all and loved every bit! I began to wonder how much of it could be real and how much is just from the authors thinking!? I would say read it, enjoy it. It's fun!

This is a cute and quick read for getting into the fall spirit. Or Valentine's day...

My favorite aspect of the book are the fairy characters, they are unique and entertaining with their shenanigans and steal the show a bit!

The book read smoothly except for one glaring typo and some really corny character names. I wish the book would have not briefly mentioned events like the escape from Hell or archangels with no further development. Either delve into the topic (or give Vaeta her own book, she

Unexpectedly good

This was a surprising book. I expected a bit of paranormal activity but it is woven in so neatly that fairie godmothers seem quite normal. The story starts out with Lexi knowing she is a witch but she hasn’t come into her powers yet and despairs of ever attaining them. She is the last of the Balefire line and she knows the keeping of the balefire will pass to a different line if her powers don’t awaken. This story is entertaining and fun and keeps you reading to the end. I

It was alright

The story started to get interesting at 60% I had a problem to warm up with the main character. But also missed some description how the people look like. A bit more details would have been handy. The monologues were ok also could have been more conversations between characters. The funniest part was Salem the cat, jolly character.
Could have been with more action regarding to magic. But for free it was ok, don't think I will go Goethe next one. Sorry if I have left not such a good

Move over Cinderella, she only had one Godmother! Full of fairy tales, Godmothers, magical mystery, mayhem, surprises, and secrets! With four fantastic Godmothers, who love fighting and magical chaos there is never a dull moment for this little witch! Is she an orphan, yes, is she poor, no! However, if she doesn’t come into her powers by her birthday the life she knows will be no more! What is she going to do? Will her Godmothers really forget who she is? She has to solve this mystery before it ...more
Better than I thought

This was a quirky story, and although it has a lot of tropes that have been done to death (last of a powerful witch bloodline coming into their powers later, only just awakening their magic before a deadline), it was fun enough that I will pick up the second book so I can see what’s going on with these off the wall characters.

Favourite line: “Thanks for peeing in my already soggy Cheerios."

Note : I received this book for free.

The first chapter is rather clunky written and I was sure I wouldn't end up liking the rest of the story. While some aspects still had me slightly cringing, it ended up to be rather funny. The big finale is followed by a longer wrap-up, and I didn't feel that much tension, but all in all an enjoyable read.
I wouldn't go out of my way to read more, but I won't say no if I happen to find one haphazardly.

This is off to an ok start, I guess. Wasn’t enough romance for me, unfortunately. In fact, the romance, slight (and I mean very slight) though it was, wasn’t too believeable. I didn’t get the connection of Kin and Lexi. But, there were a few surprises here. No angst at all; mostly our “Fate Weaver” trying to come into her powers and working at her match making. I’m not rushing to get to the second book.

Well written, light urban fantasy

I enjoyed this book. The characters were great. The storyline was unique. I liked the matchmaker aspect. This is the first book in the series. World building and introductions to the characters was the core of this book. There is a bit of a mystery around Kin which pulls all the characters into the story. I thought it was well done. I love Salem and her pink Vespa. This was a light fun read with an overall storyline continuing in the next book.

A captivating read

The title and book cover peaked my curiosity. Th book did not dissapoint. The characters were fun and the writer's creativity shined throughout the entire weave of the story. I suggest that readers who enjoy a great witch caper put this on their list of of books to read and add to their library.

I believe in faerie godmothers

Ok, I'm a sucker for happy endings and witches, druids, faeries, magic, the mystical, good prevailing over evil, etc. I explain it away as part of my Irish heritage. Loved the book and definitely in the market for more from the series and the author.

What can I say besides amazing? This was a very nice read. There wasn't too much depth to it, so if you're looking for some deep soul reflection then this is not it. However, it's funny and it keeps pace without going too fast or slow. Overall, a nice book to pass time with.

I enjoyed the author's take on the many relationships Lexi has and also begins to build during this story- They are all well rounded and very realistic. The way she interacts with the characters is weaved smoothly into this witchy tale!

Lexie’s Awakenjng

Lexi Balefire is reaching the time when her witch powers should arrive, but it took its time. Her fairy godmothers raised her, but neglected some things about her being a fate weaver or that she was the daughter of Cupid. It all comes to a head at Beltane and so does the arrival of her evil brother.
Let the fight between good and evil begin!
