Rajesh Kumar is an extremely prolific Tamil novel writer, most famous for his crime, detective, and science fiction stories. Since publishing his first short story "Seventh Test Tube" in Kalkandu magazine in 1968, he has written over 1,500 short novels and over 2,000 short stories.

Many of his detective novels feature the recurring characters Vivek and Rubella. He continues to publish at least five novels every month, in the pocket magazines Best Novel, Everest Novel, Great Novel, Crime Novel, and Dhigil Novel, besides short stories published in weekly magazines like Kumudam and Ananda Vikatan. His writing is widely popular in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and in Sri Lanka.

About the author

Rajesh Kumar is the pseudonym of KR Rajagopal, a Tamil author of crime fiction. He created a pseudonym based on the names of his sister and his sister-in-law: Rajeshwari and Ananthakumar. Prior to writing full-time, Kumar spent five years teaching, with a degree in education from Ramakrishna Vidyalaya. When he grew bored with this, he worked as a sales representative for an industrial rubber goods company.

Kumar's first published story was in 1968 or 1969, in the college magazine of Government Arts College, Coimbatore, where he earned a degree in botany. He has attributed this to a prank by another student, who used Kumar's name when volunteering to submit a story for the magazine; when his professor refused to allow Kumar to back out. The next day he reluctantly submitted "Vaazhndhu Kaatuvom", a love story.

Later that year, he submitted the crime story "Unnai Vidamaatten" to a short story contest in Maalai Murasu; this was the first story for which he was paid. In 1977, his work began appearing in Kumudam, starting with the short story "Idhu Nyayama".

His first novel, "Vaadagaiku Oru Uyir", was published in 1980. He subsequently told of how the editor of Kumudam had seen a porter on a platform at Egmore Railway Station engrossed in one of Kumar's stories. The porter had also forgone customers just to finish the story. It was then that the editor decided to make Kumar write a novel. In 1986, his publisher asked him if he could produce a novel a month; as a result, he became a full-time writer.

As of 2019, Kumar has written over 1500 novels; [dubious – discuss] his son, for whom digitizing the novels into e-books is a full-time profession, has been able to locate around 1,000 of them. He has also written over 2000 short stories, and scripts for over 250 television series, as well as the 2015 film Sandamarutham. He received the Tamil Nadu State government's prestigious 'Kalaimamani' award in 2009.

Rajeshkumar is one of the writers whom made me to take books in my childhood.

Again a decent thriller with pattas ending in every chapter. But I feel the initial goosebumps were missing in the final chapters and all the characters trying to own the scene or pages were confusing and boring.

Overall a clumsy but decent read.

குற்றங்களின் பின்னணியை ஆராயும் போது கிடைக்கும் தகவல்கள் உண்மையாக நம்பவைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதில் இருந்து முற்றிலும் வேறுபட்டு இருக்கும்.அதன் சூத்திரதாரியை அறிந்து கொள்ளும்போது அரசியலின் வலிமையைத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளமுடியும்.

காணாமல் போன மலேசிய விமானத்தைத் தேடி கண்டுபிடிக்கப் பல நாடுகள் முயல்கின்றன.அதை கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாமல் போனாலும் எதற்காக மாயமாக மறைந்தது என்பதற்கான ஆதாரத்தைத் தேடி அலைவது தான் இந்த நாவலின் களம்.

சிபிஐ சேர்ந்த நால்வர் கிடைத்த தகவலின்படி சிங்கப்பூரில் இருக்கும் தகவல்கள் அடங்கிய மைக்ரோ பென்டிரைவை இந்தியாவிற்குக் கடத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

சிங்கப்பூர் போலீஸ் அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் அந்தப் பென்டிரைவ் தேவைப்படுவதால் சிபிஐ அதிகாரிகளை அவர்களின் கண்காணிப்பு வட்டத்தில் வைத்து ஒரு நாடகத்தை அரங்கேற்றுகின்றனர்.

அமெரிக்காவும் பணத்தைக் காட்டி சிபிஐயில் வேலை செய்பவர்களை விலைக்கு வாங்கி அந்தப் பென்டிரைவை அடைய முயல்கிறது.

விமானத்தை அழிக்கும் வழிமுறைகள் அடங்கிய பென்டிரைவை கைப்பற்ற போராடும் கும்பல்கள் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் மற்றவர்களைப் பயப்படச் செய்து தங்களின் விருப்பங்களை நிறைவேற்றிக்கொள்ளும் போது மலேசிய இராணுவ அதிகாரியின் தலையீடு நுழைகிறது.

காணாமல் போன விமானத்தில் இருக்கும் நால்வர் உலகத்தை அழிக்கக் கூடிய விஞ்ஞானத்தைக் கடத்தப்போவதை அறிந்த மலேசிய அரசாங்கம் இராணுவ வீரர்களைப் பயணிகளாக அனுப்பித் தங்களின் கட்டுபாட்டிற்குள் அதை கொண்டு வந்த நேரத்தில் அந்த நால்வரும் விஷம் சாப்பிட்டு இறந்து போனதால் விமானக் கடத்தல் நாடகம் அப்படியே உலகத்தின் பார்வையில் விட்டு விட்டு அந்த விமானத்தில் பயணம் செய்த இராணுவ வீரர்கள் தங்களின் வேலையைத் தொடர்கின்றனர்.

பேராபத்தை உண்டாக்கும் விஞ்ஞானத்தின் கண்டுபிடிப்பு தீயவர்களின் கைகளுக்குச் செல்லாம் தடுத்து நிறுத்தப்படுகிறது.

விறுவிறுப்பான கதைக்களம், எளிமையான நடை. ஒரே மூச்சில் வாசிக்க முடிந்த அளவுக்கு கதை நிகழ்கின்றது. பக்கத்துக்கு பக்கம் பரபரப்பு என்று விளம்பரங்களில் சொல்லி கேட்டதுண்டு. இந்த புத்தகம் அந்த அனுபவத்தை தருகிறது. ஒரு நிகழ்வு நடந்து அதை புரிந்து கொள்வதற்குள் அடுத்த நிகழ்வு என்ற பாணியில் கதையின் போக்கு அமைகிறது. திருப்பங்களும் பஞ்சமே இல்லை. என்ன பிரச்னையென்றால் ஒரு கட்டத்திற்கு பிறகு இந்த வேகம் சலிப்பையும் எரிச்சலையும் தருகிறது. கதை நகர நகர புது புது பாத்திரங்களும் வந்து கொண்டே இருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் இரண்டு மூன்று பேரை தவிர யாரும் மனதில் நிற்கவில்லை. கதையின் பாதி பகுதி வரை வாசிப்பு சீராக சென்றாலும் அதன் பிறகு திக்கு திசையின்றி செல்கிறது. கதையின் முடிவு கூட எதோ சம்பந்தம் இல்லாத மாதிரியே பட்டது. அதை முடிவு என்றும் சொல்ல முடியாது.
மொத்தத்தில், வேகமாக கதைக்களம் கொண்ட ஒரு கதை. குழப்பங்கள் அதிகமாக உள்ளது என்றாலும் ஒரு முறை வாசிக்கலாம்.

ராஜேஷ்குமாரின் "வெல்வெட் குற்றங்கள்"

2014-ல் காணாமல் போன மலேஷிய விமானம் MH370 இன்று வரை மர்மமாக உள்ள நிலையில், ராஜேஷ்குமாரின் "வெல்வெட் குற்றங்கள்" அந்த சம்பவத்தைச் சுற்றி ஒரு புனைவாக அமைந்துள்ளது. அந்த விமானம் விபத்துக்குள்ளானதா? இல்லை, கடத்தப்பட்டதா? அதில் பயணம் செய்த பயணிகளின் நிலை என்ன? இச்சம்பவத்தின் பின்னணியில் யார் இருக்கிறார்கள்? இச்சம்பவம் வல்லரசு நாடுகளின் விஞ்ஞான போட்டிகளின் விளைவா? என்ற கேள்விகளுக்கு விடை தேடுவதாக கதையின் போக்கு அமைந்துள்ளது.

"Thriller” நாவல்களுக்கே உள்ள பாணியில் கதையின் மாந்தர்களில் யார் உண்மையின் பக்கம், யார் தீமையின் பக்கமென கணிக்க முடியாத திருப்பங்களுடன் இந்நாவல் வாசகனின் ஆர்வத்தை தக்க வைக்க முயல்கிறது. கேள்வி படாத பல அறிவியல் முன்னேற்றங்கள், தொழில்நுட்பங்கள் இந்நாவலில் பிரதானமாக இடம்பெறுவது, சிலவற்றை நமக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தினாலும், தேவைக்கு அதிகமாக அமைந்து சில இடஙகளில் சலிப்பு தட்டுகிறது.

ஏராளமான கதாப்பாத்திரங்கள் வலம் வந்தும், கதையை விட்டு எங்கும் விலகி செல்லாமல் பயணிக்கிறது இந்நாவல். ஒவ்வொறு அத்தியாயத்தின் முடிவிலும் போடப்படும் முடிச்சு, அதை தொடர்ந்து கதையில் அமையும் காட்சிகளின் வேகம் ஆகியவையே இந்நாவலின் பலம். கதையின் climax கலவையான விமர்சனங்களை பெறலாம்.

Velvet crimes is an english translation of a Tamil thriller.
The story starts in Singapore Changi airport when an Indian son and mother (Nitish and Srimathi) duo who are flying to Chennai met with a co-passenger Shalini at the airport. Both found Shalini as too talkative and were occassionally suspicsious and annoyed with her. During various conversations it so turned out that Nitish and Srimathi are not what they look like and their purpose to visit Singapore was not what they claim to be. Once the plain lands at Chennai airport, the story took lot of twists and turn at various places before coming to conclusion.

The author, Rajesh Kumar is quite popular in Taminadu (India) and Srilanka and have written over a thousand novels so far. I have read quite a few popular Hindi novelists as well. This book seems something similiar albit much shorter. As is typical with these popular novels, there was lot of drama and action.

This book was a quick read and recommended if you need something light to read without too much analysis or thinking.
