Best friends and blood sisters for life, Melonee Reid and Fiona White have one goal in life--to get rich and live comfortably-- but growing up in the inner city of Los Angeles isn't helping them obtain that goal. That is, until Fiona comes up with a plan to marry for money and murder for even more. The girls seek out older, established, wealthy bachelors, drawing them into a web of deception with their good looks, sexy bodies, and loving personalities. Once their last names are changed and the ink is dry on the insurance policies, the clique executes their plan to have the new husbands die "accidental" deaths, leaving their fortunes to the widowed wives.Their little marry-for-money scam works for years, until things take a drastic turn and one friend's connection to the new mark has her questioning her role in the Black Widow Clique. The other friend still wants to carry out the murderous plan to get a hold of a multimillion-dollar insurance policy. Friendship will be tested, lies will be told, and loyalty will come into play when one black widow decides that their cozy web of deception, love, and money isn't big enough for two anymore.
I listened to this book on Audible and enjoyed the storyline, characters, plots, and plot twists. It was a different vibe from most of the urban novels that I have read or listened to. There were some twists and turns that I did not see coming, but they made the story that much more enjoyable. The Audible version is a little over 13 hours long so it may be received better as a road trip listen, but it’s worth it.
BWC has turned out to be a definite page turner just when I thought I knew what was going to happen a twist surprised me Now I think I'm figuring it out I know something else will happen. I'm with Bree some things up with Fe wanna be slick ads I don't like the low-key shade she gives Mel and I especially don't like that Mel is so trusting that she doesn't see it. That all I'll say for the sake of not giving too much of a spoiler If you're looking for a good read look no further.
This book was great. I never saw that twist coming. I love Mel and the way she wants to find love. Aunt Bree is my girl and I believe her about Fiona. Definitely don't trust her as far as I could throw her. Cowboy is bae! Can't wait to find the truth on what happened that night! THOTTIES UNITE!
I began this book with low expectations. I was a tad confused in the description of the characters it was close to the end where you get a more detailed description. I’ll know if I really like the story when I finish boom 2
This was a good book, although some aspects of it didn't logistically make sense to me, but they weren't big enough to make me dislike the story. I thought the author did a good job of exposing a lot of secrets and plot twists throughout the book and getting to know most of the characters well.
Listening to this book was a wild ride! Melody and Fiona are some dangerous women. As Aunt Bri says, "Be careful!" On to Book 2 to see what happens! I'm so curious to see what happens with Roman!
Ms. Genesis Woods has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. I honestly don't think that there is anything that she writes that I could dislike. This book, The Black Widow Clique was different but was in short an indication of how LETHAL her pen game truly is!!! So this story had me on the edge of my seats jumping up and down one minute, and sitting with my mouth hanging wide open the very next. The things that these ladies, Fiona and Mel were doing normally would have me rooting AGAINST them in all aspects but again the genius of Ms. Woods allowed me to feel empathy and even in some ways identify with them....well at least Mel. Ms. Fiona could kick rocks!!! Okay not kick rocks but this babygirl was a piece of work!!! Fiona is the definition of snake. If you were to turn to the word snake in Websters right now instead of seeing a written definition you would find a nice glossy head shot of Fiona!!! SERIOUSLY!(I just said that in my Lonnie B voice LOL) At any rate it was all too real when we quickly surmised that the old adage of the love of money is the root of all evil. Fiona didn't care who she had to hurt, betray or set up as long as the end result was the same: SHE HAD TO GET HERS! POINT. BLANK. THE PERIOD. Mel really and truly had a good heart. Yes she was involved in questionable activities but who can really say that they haven't done things that they wish they never had a part in? NO ONE!!! Well maybe one man but he is the only one I know LOL. The one thing I hated about Mel and I guess hate is a strong word but she was just entirely too trusting and blinded when it came to Fiona's true intentions. I hated that she wouldn't listen to the advice and wisdom that she was given but you know sometimes experience is the best teacher as the old folks say. There is absolutely NOTHING negative that I can say about this book other than to say, that I wish part 2 was available NOW!!! At any rate EXCELLENT JOB Ms. Genesis Woods. You prove over and over again why you should be heralded as Queen!!! Your books allow me the opportunity to have the world around me fall away while I enjoy the epic ride that your lyrical storytelling gift takes me on every single time!!!
The plot of this book was beyond interesting! The characters were developed very well. This book definitely showed that people have different meanings behind the word "family"! I don't trust Fiona. She seems like she is out for herself and using Mel. Benji is also up to no good. I believe he has something against his brother Roman! Proof doesn't seem like a bad guy. He honestly wants his family together, but too much has been done in the past so it's time for them to find happiness with someone else. I believe Ro and Mel would be good together. I don't believe he did what he was accused of. The question is.....who is out to get him and why? Mel should also take heed to what her Aunt Bre is saying to her when it comes to this so called best friend of hers! Something just isn't right. I can't wait until whatever snakes are revealed!!! I know book two is going to be just as great as book one!!!
I'm loving this mysterious love thing going on in this book ...Will Roman get his family I'm praying on it ....Norman's a good dude and I'm loving his character....Even MEL ,she's sweet and looking for love. I can't wait to see how this all come together ....Now Roman's brother is the problem and the life Mel been living in the clique may just have caught up to her ....Daughter of Doug is suspect also ...I was so entertained Awesome STORYLINE different and believable OUT FREAKING STANDING
This book had me on the edge of my seat with my mouth hanging open as I anxiously turned the pages. I have heard about the so called black widow women, but to actually read about how they operate, is totally different from what I thought they were about. I found myself totally disliking Fiona. My gut is telling me that she had something to do with Mel's attack. She makes you want to look at the definition of family a little differently. Melonee on the other hand, started to grow on me. I will see how I feel after I read part 2.
The schemes of the black widow clique is crazy. The relationship between Melonee and Bree is hard to understand even though they been friends for such a long time the trials and tribulations that transpired between them they remained friends. And then there's Roman.I don't want to give a way to much but this book definitely will leave you wanting part 2 asap.
This was a different kind of read. It was okay but I got a little bored with it. It felt like I was reading a compilation of the stories you see on the ID channel mixed with the show who the ________ did I marry? Melonee and Fiona just went around being deceitful and running scams to get by and didn't care who they hurt in the process.
Interesting, different, and unique…..and crazy. These women got some issues and it shows. The men will make you love them and hate them. I’m all for Mel but she is so used and abused. Fiona will make you want to knock her to the next century. I loved how the author was very creative with the title as well as the story.
This was damn good. What the girls are doing is wrong. But at least Melonee is wanting a change. I didn't like Fiona from the moment I read she set her friend up to be a stripper. After that you realize she is someone you can't trust. Roman is a good dude Marques doesn't seem bad either. Benjamin is a sneaky trouble maker. So much drama, looking forward to part 2.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how melonee and roman were drawn to rack other. Something in my spirit tells me her best friend and his brother set them up. I can't wait for part two !!!!!
Hmmmmm this book has me in suspense for real! I got a feeling it was either beniji or Fiona that had that happen to Melonee! Smh I can't wait to see what happens in book 2. This book's ending came quick so hopefully the other book is longer.
This was a good book. It was different than your regular urban fiction which was nice. I liked Mel and Roman. Don't care for Fiona. Patiently waiting for part 2. This was my 1st time reading this author. Will definitely read more of her books.
