Read this book if you don't mind the following:

1. Instalove. This is a serious case of instalove. The main characters first meet through a dream (that until now I still don't get the mechanics of how Delos appeared as future Delos warning Maggie off or something like that). Then when they truly meet in person, some magical connection makes them realize they're soulmates! Thus they are now irrevocably in love with each other because they are soulmates after all and you only have one of those in

Title: Black Dawn
Series: Night World #8
Author: LJ Smith
Overall Rating: 3 stars

I think in every set of three in this series, there's one book that is a three star book for me, and in this set of three, I think it's going to be Black Dawn.

There was nothing wrong with it per say, but it just didn't match up to how much I enjoyed Huntress. I liked Maggie as a main character, but sometimes she was kind of irritating. Delos

Black Dawn is book 8 in the Night World series.

I loved reading about Maggie and her determination to find her brother. And Prince Delos made it even better.

4 Star Read:
A strong, well-developed heroine in Maggie with multiple, detailed plot lines on varying scales and L. J Smith has hit another home run with her array of interesting, unique characters.

Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely w

Whereas the first NIGHT WORLD omnibus set up the basic concept for the Night World and the rules in place for its existence, the second began to give the sense that all the stories were interconnected rather than one-off stories. With each installment, more was learned about the history of the sub-world, the concept of soulmates, and (particularly in this final omnibus) the coming of the end of the world. Such was the case for the first nine books in this series, but unfortunately, the final boo ...more

Black Dawn probably has the prettiest cover (though to be fair the falcon connection is.... kind of weak so I think it's on the cover because they needed a motif) and it also has one of the nicer stories that doesn't seem to have any grievous problems with the plot like with Soulmate and it wasn't dull or unfocused like Daughters of Darkness or just plain ugh like Huntress. It's more aligned with The Chosen and since it's a somewhat similar tale of capture and escape and saving people, apparentl ...more

This most definitely got my eye!

General review, spoiler-free:

The Night World is the world with every dark creature you can imagine. Every "fictional" creature you know came from somewhere: The Night World.

Now, something weird, even for the Night World, is happening. Soulmates are appearing again. Two beings so connected, they are just meant to be. Every story of this series meant to culminate with the end of the world as we know focuses on different characters and how all these end up meeting.

I really had to pick and choose which books from this series I wanted to read because I can only deal with a few of these. This one caught my interest because of the plot summary: "First he puts her in a dungeon. Then he realized they were soulmates. Now he wants to make her a vampire princess."

That's not exactly how it went down.

Maggie learns her older brother was killed in a climbing accident. His girlfriend cries out the story of a spur-of-the-moment climb and how he made a careless mistake

Each book in the series could be a stand-alone book, yet intricately entwined to paint a beautiful picture of love despite our differences. Maggie gets caught up in the night world when her brother supposedly dies from a careless accident while mountain climbing. Miles, who is a check equipment and placement of hands before moving couldn't possibly have died the way Sylvia claims. Setting out to find out what really happened to her brother entangles Maggie into a world she never knew existed

I remember being a little teenager obsessing over anything L.J. Smith, spending all my spare money on her books.

Now in my 20s I am still obsessed with her. Black Dawn is too short of a story and it didn't have much in the romance department compared to other stories in Night World. But it still left me with a hollow feeling

This is a great quick read. A fan of LJ Smith's The Secret Circle and Dark Visions series, and enjoy the Night World which embraces witches, vampires, shifters, and such. Fun read and each story is its own but has the united themes of the Night World and forbidden love.

I definitely think these are getting better as they get closer to the end. Having a storyline that follows through is very satisfying. I'm also loving all these kickass female leads. I've accepted that these are pretty repetitive and can at least enjoy the other fluff.

Honestly probably the worst one from this series. It did however get way better in the last 5 chapters.

It is hard to remember that these books (the Night World Series) were published around the time I was born because these books have a new look and have been re-VAMPED (haha--get it?). I find myself constantly going back to these magical classics because they are short, sweet, and simple. AND hilarious because they are very stereotypical. I love the love stories and the cameos that every character makes throughout the series. I definitely believe that these should be a staple on everyone's shelve ...more
Sylvia, Miles' girlfriend, shows up at the Neely residence claiming Miles is dead and his body is missing. Maggie, Miles' younger sister, is skeptical of Sylvia, so she decides to follow her and ends up getting more than she bargained for. She is taken to the Dark Kingdom, the most secret place in the Night World. A place ruled by members of the Night World who choose to keep humans as slaves. A place where a Wild Power may be found. But which side will the Power choose to be on?

“You are an idiot," he said slowly, with cold wonder.
"You should listen to your body; it's telling you what it needs. You can't ignore thirst. You can't deny it."
"Yes, you can," Maggie said flatly.
Her wrist was going numb.
If this went on, she was going to drop the bag involuntarily, and in the wrong place.
"You can't," he said, somehow making the words into an angry hiss. "I should know."
Then he showed her his teeth.

4 stars.

Going back and forth I kept on teeter-tottering between a 4 and a 5 star rating. Finally settled on a 4 star.

Although I had fun reading this, I liked the characters, and I liked the story there were a couple things that didn't flow well and just kind of happened as opposed to working up to it.

A quick summary, Maggie has just found out her brother, Miles, is dead but something isn't quite right with Sylvia and Maggie follows her. Turns out Sylvia is a witch and she sends Maggie to a he

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

EXPECTATIONS: Eighth book of the series, I cannot believe I am almost done.

THE WORLD: Again we concentrate on vampires and humans. Actually we spend most of the time in this hidden dark world of vampires. Must admit it reminded me a lot of other worlds from Vampire Diaries books.

CHARACTERS: Our main character is names Maggie. She find out her brother has died in a mysterious hiking trip and decides to follow his girlfriend to find out what really happened.

Night World #8: Black Dawn, by L. J. Smith

"Black Dawn" feels like the meatiest of the Night World books, with a lot going on in a very short period of time. Smith introduces us to a new Wild Power and a secret vampire kingdom all in one.

Maggie's world changes overnight when she's awakened by the sound of her mother crying. Her brother Miles is missing and presumed dead. Maggie listens as his girlfriend, Sylvia, tells the family what happened, but something is wrong with Sylvia's story. Maggie's
