Dio. L'autobiografia

Rate this book
In most autobiographies the subject starts at the beginning, but in My case that's tricky. I have no beginning. And, for that matter, I have no end. I'm Infinite.

About the author

Jeremy Pascall

Jeremy Pascall was an English screenwriter, broadcaster, journalist and author. He specialized in writing about humour and rock music, starting his career at the magazine New Musical Express. At 26 he moved on to be a producer at London's Capital Radio. He has written several books.

He was an accomplished music journalist, coming of age in the '60s. He interviewed all the big rock stars of the time (he had extremely funny stories of time spent with Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees fame) and was an integral part of the avant garde group Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.

He also wrote several books, was a successful DJ at Capitol Radio in London, hosting the shows Vinyl Vaults and The UnEncyclopedia of Rock, before evolving into a talented radio and television comedy writer.

According to a friend, "He was a prickly, cigar smoking, hard drinking, high-flying bon vivant who knew almost everybody important in the worlds of comedy and telly, and everything about English popular culture; and he did NOT suffer fools gladly."

He died on 30 August 2001 from throat cancer.

Great comedy read. Pretty short and it only covers events from the Old Testament... if you're easily offended, don't read it.

"Over the millennia we've tried to keep Heaven exclusive. Very few people have even had a glimpse of it, which is probably why so much nonsense has been talked about the place. It's not all fluffy clouds and angels playing harps; there are almost no clouds because most of us like to sunbathe the whole year round and quite a few of the angels now play synthesizers. We move with the times although, as I said to Ludwig only the other day, I vastly prefer <> to the age of rock!

That little bon mot amused the dear old man, who doesn't approve of this new music at all, in fact he recently begged Me to make him deaf again. I think he was joking, although it's difficult to tell with him. He's got a kind heart, though. He spends hours with Schubert suggesting ways in which he might finish his 8th Symphony"

Tongue-in-cheek
God's perspective of certain events of the Old Testament. Not sure all of the references have aged well, but still good for a chuckle or two. If religion and humor and nonsense are incompatible for you, avoid this.

Honestly, I think I would have found it funnier if I had broken it up instead of reading it all in one sitting.

And once more I spake, louder this time, saying "I'm not asking you the time. I'm telling you that I am The Lord Thy God!"⁣

And Noah said, " All right, you don't have to shout. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who go around acting as though they're God."⁣

And that is when, in My infinite wisdom, I decided that Noah could drown with the rest of them.

I can't praise this book enough. Simply can't! It is the FUNNIEST book I've EVER read! Everything about this book, from its premise to its blurb, to its footnotes, scream hilarity!⁣

This was a bit difficult to find since the book is out of print for a long time, but it's completely worth it.⁣

This was so funny I could only read 1-3 chapters at a time, because I'd be so saturated with laughter, couldn't laugh anymore!⁣

The sequel to this book, Satan: Hiss and Tell Memoirs is equally hilarious! I wish Jeremy Pascell had written more such books, his sense of humour is unmatched!⁣

Highly highly highly highly recommended!!!⁣

If you are easily offended by things that could be considered sacrilegious, don't read this book. If you love creative humor on the other hand, you will be laughing out loud reading this book (which can be a rather amusing thing for the people around you). Here's a choice tidbit:

"So I created this little place (heaven). Nothing too ostentatious - just somewhere to hang My halo, as it were. Although don't take this halo business too literally, I obviously don't wear it all the time. It might look good in portraits but, take it from Me, having a light blazing over your head gives you a frightful migraine. Not to mention its effect on others. Look what it did to Saul on the road to Damascus - blinded the poor guy."

For all of us who love any sort of humor pocking at organized religion, this book is for you!!! And don't fear having to put all other books aside, this is actually one of the shortest books i've ever read, next to fight club. This books is filled with many, very Douglas Adams-like footnotes about what your reading, referencing what your reading as well as making notes to his other "books" like "god on gardening" and "101 things to do with a pillar of salt"
Do yourself a favor and pick this up, you won't be disappointed

God mentions in the preface of this book that the Bible, while well-intentioned, left out some important information and he's writing this autobiography to get the facts straight. What follows is a witty retelling of the creation and early history of mankind that reveals familiar characters and events from the Bible in a whole new light. The only fault I can find with this book is that it ends somewhat abruptly, with a lot of Bible stories still left unexploited.

Very funny book. An irreverent take on the old testament. If you are someone who gets offended when people make fun of religious feelings/icons etc this is not for you.
Unputdownable is the only word for this book. The only complaint is the book ends rather abruptly and doesn't go all the way to the end of the old testament.
Read it along with another book of Pascall- the hiss and tell memoirs. This one is Satan's autobiography.

Only slightly sacrilegious. Clever and witty and if you don't take yourself too seriously you will laugh.

irreverent, cynical, but quite funny satire on what God did in Genesis--like a Dave Barry column--might be fun for an adult read aloud but has some inappropriate references/language
