Many people see their lives playing out like a movie they cannot control. They have come to feel like spectators watching a story unfold, unable to stop the stampeding consequences. They feel the die is cast, and nothing they do can alter the outcome. James MacDonald believes that is a lie. In 10 Choices he says, while people are where they are in life because of the choices they've made, they don't have to stay there. This book is about getting beyond self-help and blame shifting and changing at the deepest and most profound level...the will. A person's will is what he uses to choose and act. This book helps readers to discover the heights to which their wills, truly surrendered to God, can actually soar and the "10 choices" that can take them there. This impactful book will prompt readers to make 10 Choices that are sure to change their lives forever.
James MacDonald (D. Min. Phoenix Seminary) is married to his high school sweetheart, Kathy, and both are from Ontario, Canada. He is the father of three grown children, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, and grandfather to four amazing grandsons. James’ ministry focuses on the unapologetic proclamation of God’s Word. In 1988, along with a small group of ministry partners, James and Kathy planted Harvest Bible Chapel which has grown to 13,000 people each weekend, meeting in six locations.
In 1997, a Bible-teaching broadcast ministry called Walk in the Word was established, now reaching more than three million people weekly. In 2002, a church planting ministry called Harvest Bible Fellowship was born and has established more than 70 churches across North America and around the world. James’ vision is that God will use him to help plant 1,000 churches in his lifetime.
James’ extensive ministry also includes a training center for pastors, a year-round camp, a biblical counseling center, a disaster recovery organization, and a Christian school—all used to reach more people with the life-changing message of the Gospel.
Now impacting millions of lives annually, God’s favor upon these ministries has been described by James as “abundantly baffling.” The MacDonalds’ view their ministry as proof that God still uses broken vessels to pour out His grace.
I tend to give 5 stars to most books that I really like, leaving me nothing to do for books that are really over the top. I should really use a 4 star rating for most great books, saving the 5th star for the truly superlative.
All that to say that this book gets that "best of the best" rating. James writes from no ivory tower; he knows that of which he speaks.
The 10 choices are do-able with God's help, and yes, they truly can change our lives, as promised. Wrong patterns of thinking do not go away overnight. Even the fact that there are ten things implies that there will be some work involved.
Lastly, this book offers neither band-aids nor a pep talk. Being honest with ourselves can be painful; the author's sense of humor helps us to at least laugh at ourselves sometimes! These are truths from the Word of God, the Bible, that many, many people have found to be life-transforming, whether they read this particular book or not.
Excellent book!! Reading James' book is just like listening to him on the radio. He is one of my very favorite preachers and I would read anything he wrote. This book really challenges the reader to examine their heart and make sure they are truly on track with God's Word. Highly recommend!!
AUDIOBOOK: A lot to listen to...a lot to learn; but, too much repetition. AND...I love listening to James McDonald...but, he wasn't the reader and I was quite disappointed from that perspective.
