The authors essentially say that there are basic plots that have been used through time. Taking a plot, you can make it your own by asking "What if...?" with the use of what they call Plot Motivators and Spicers. They also cover what is and what isn't plagiarism.

I picked up a few ideas, but this is just a short, light read.

I finished this book so long ago, I had to take another look. For new writers this book could work and also for writers struggling with plot problems. It has a pretty good section about motivating the plot--vengence, catastrophe, love and hate, the chase, grid and loss, rebellion, betrayal, persecution, self-sacrifice, surival and rivalry. It was also a quick read and as the years have shown not the most memorable writing book but one that could be helpful.
