a essential book to be read by everyone who label themself as 'Islamist'.

Abdul Wahab El-Effendi is a rare muslim who studied both; western political philosophy and Islamic political philosophy.
The book covers 'blind spot' leave by modern Islamic revivalist and revised the idea of Islamic state according to the current world without neglecting the aspect of Qur'an and Sunnah as the guidance

Even though el-Affendi does not mention about deficiency of the term of "democracy", he has a magnificant critical consciousness. Especially, while criticizing classical Islamic political thought and the modern aproach was asserted by Mawdudi and Qutb. In fact, among writers I read, el-Affendi is "the most" open-minded Muslim who deals with Islamic state.

This is not an original book, or rather the ideas in it are old and tired. Upon reading “Who needs an Islamic State” one is struck by the orientalist tone of the work. Although the author implies on page one that he is opening up a new debate, rather he comes across as just another follower of Ali Abdul Raziq and the orientalists who wrote on the matter around 1924, when the destruction of the Islamic State in Istanbul was a prime British foreign policy objective.
