Mills has a straightforward, accessible writing style, which made him an icon in Iowa journalism for decades. The stories are fascinating. Too many of them leave me wanting more. It would be interesting to read an updated version, since the original was published in 1972 and perspectives have changes over the past fifty years. Still, this is a gem. I found it in a used book sale, and it might be hard to find a copy outside of Iowa (though I suspect the larger Iowa libraries have it).
