Ignoring her parents' wishes, Janey, a teenager struggling for her independence, is determined to tame a wild, dangerous colt and her painstaking efforts are rewarded when the colt's life is threatened
This is the sequel to Summer of the Stallion, which explains the odd title of this book. There is a good summary of the previous book in here, so you don't have to read it. It's a lot worse than this one. A description of the dog Pal is never given in this book, so I'll give it here -- he's half German Shepherd and half Airedale. Despite the title, it's a Christmas book, with all the good and bad of that time of year.
I read this book back in the early 1990s. This book is set in the 1950s, despite the hairstyle and clothing on the cover.
It's got horses, a cool Great Horned Owl, positive portrayal of a Native American family, and family problems. This time around reading it, I'd forgotten what shits Janey's family were. Janey finally becomes a decent person, though.
As far as I know, this was the last book June Andrea Hanson ever wrote, although I expect she used a pen name.
You can find this book, sometimes, at the Internet Archive.
