Parallel universes, unexplainable magical abilities, a love triangle, and an evil queen - really, what more could you want in a novel? How about cool local (NC) touches, lovable (and hate-able) characters, and a portal in the forest with authority over time and matter. This is a wonderful debut novel from Megan Allen, and I can't wait to read more about Elinor, Derek, Peter and Morland. Full disclosure, I know the author, so this review is admittedly biased by friendship, but if you enjoy young ...more

Magic Headaches is the story of a girl who struggles with constant (as in never-ever-ever stops) headaches. But they aren't just headaches... when she closes her eyes, she sees another world. This is an amazing story of how she learns to live life with constant pain, and how she discovers more about that other world she feels pulled to and the magic there with the help of a troubled, handsome man who barely escaped that world. I highly recommend this book - especially if you like fantasy, if you ...more

Wow! I loved going on this adventure with Elinor and her friends. This book is so cool in how the heroine has these terrible headaches. I have a close family member who has daily migraines and now I feel like I understand them better. Each character has such depth. I love it when I come across a book that I can't put down. Can't wait for the next book!

This novel was, overall, a solid beginning to a series. The elements that I look for were present and were fairly well-executed, although I felt there was room for improvement.

The premise is intriguing, and has some truly unique elements that I really appreciated. For about 90% of the novel, I though this was a unique take on a pretty standard story. Aside from the explanation of Morland as another planet, that is. (It's a personal pet peeve of mine when a story uses aliens/outer space/etc as

This book has such a truly beautifully crafted universe, that I fell more and more in love with the more that I read. I am just SO excited to read more about this world!

I completely love and admire how well Megan was able to channel her personal experiences into this story while combining them with my favourite genre! It’s so amazing to see the day to day life of Elinor and how her pain affects her put into written words. It was a beautiful way to tell the story of someone with chronic pain and

I really enjoyed that book. It was a fun read, I could not put it down. There is the familiar tropes of the fantasy novel, the great battle between good and evil, the unsuspecting hero who gets a special power that seems like a curse... The characters that get on each other nerves at first. But the author bring new twists to the story that makes it original and interesting.
I love Elinor as the main character her the fortitude and the way she deals with chronic illness. The portrait family that

It's a fantastic read! As someone who struggles with a chronic illness I found that I could connect to this book in a very personal level. Something that rarely happens so strongly with me. It's a bit slow at first, but definitely worthy the wait. I'll definitely recommend this book to anyone who asks and I'm definitely going to read book 2!
