Inn Significant: A Novel

Two years after receiving the horrifying news of her husband Gil’s death, Milly Foster continues to struggle to find her way out of a state of depression. As a last-ditch effort and means of intervention, Milly’s parents convince her to run their successful Inn during their absence as they help a friend establish a new bed and breakfast in Ireland. Milly reluctantly agrees; when she arrives at the picturesque, waterfront Inn Significant, her colleague, John, discovers a journal written by her deceased grandmother that contains a secret her grandmother kept from the family. Reading her grandmother’s words, and being able to identify with her Nana’s own feelings of loss, sparks the beginning of Milly’s climb out of the darkness and back to the land of the living.

STEPHANIE VERNI is the author of THE POSTCARD AND OTHER SHORT STORIES & POETRY (2018), INN SIGNIFICANT (2017), BASEBALL GIRL (2015), and BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE (2012). She and her colleagues, Leeanne Bell McManus and Chip Rouse, are the authors of EVENT PLANNING: COMMUNICATING THEORY AND PRACTICE (2016). She is Professor of Business Communication at Stevenson University where she instructs writing and communication courses. Prior to working in academia, she spent thirteen years with the Baltimore Orioles and was the editor of the Cal Ripken Commemorative book, which celebrated and marked his consecutive games record. BENEATH THE MIMOSA TREE earned a Bronze medal in the Annual Readers' Favorite Awards Contest for 2012, tops in its category for Contemporary Romance, and was a National Indie Excellence finalist for Romance in 2013. BASEBALL GIRL took home an Honorable Mention Award for Sports Fiction in Readers' Favorite's 2015 contest. This was a joy to read because of the setting. Everything we love about the town of Oxford, MD is here.
The story is about a young woman who is still grieving the sudden death of her husband shortly after suffering a miscarriage.
The Inn in the title is really Sandaway, just a few doors down the street from our place. The Creamery is mentioned as well as Mystery Loves Company and Holy Trinity.

I enjoyed this book with its richly drawn characters and its beautiful story location. The story of how we cope with loss and regaining balance is a universal theme that I think we all go through. This book is a fantastic read that I believe all will enjoy.

I read this book in one day. Loved getting caught up in the quaint Eastern Shore setting and the characters. I highly recommend it for a light, enjoyable read! (PS - The author is an amazing colleague of mine!)

An uplifting story about a woman who is learning to live well again after being widowed. She finds friendship, peace, and more while helping her parents run an inn on the Eastern Shore in Maryland.

Good story. The setting is close to home. Likable characters. Relaxing summer read. But, really, salad with crabs?!!
I like the book cover on this site better than the one on my book. But now that I think of it, is my cover supposed to be one of John’s paintings?

I love Stephanie Verni. Her style of writing is just pure joy. You know you will be on a journey with highs and lows and it will end up beat.
I appreciate knowing that.

I've read 2 of her books, which take place in Maryland, and I enjoy knowing where the stories are set.
