Mari Mancusi's 2nd novel in the Blood Coven Vampire series is an excellent read.

I fell in love with this series when I was much, much younger than I am now (aka high school era), but rereading this series has made me fall in love with Mari all over again. And with the introduction of Once Upon a Vampire into this series (kind's in the same universe, so it's the same series, I geuss?) I had to go back and reread to get a feel of these books again (and just because I love them. I can't hel

I really enjoyed the first book, but I honestly don't feel excited about continuing this series. I was so excited to read this after finishing Boys That Bite and I couldn't find a copy anywhere (and I was twelve so money was scarce for to just use to buy books online). Maybe I'll muster up the interest again one day.
A saucy teenage romance sautéed with blood, vampires, and humor.

“I never said becoming the slayer would be a field trip to a Justin Bieber concert.”

Stake That! by Mari Mancusi is a saucy teenage romance sautéed with blood, vampires, and humor. It is the second installment in Mari’s Blood Coven Vampire series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone if that is your preference. Just know that the first book, Boys that Bite, set up the author’s Blood Coven world and there are interconnected characters.

The first book in this series, Boys that Bite, told the story of what happened after Rayne's sister Sunny was accidentally bitten by a vampire who'd intended to bite Rayne. In book two, Rayne discovers that instead of the vampire that she has always longed to be, she's actually the chosen one, Slayer Inc.'s newest vampire slayer. Her first assignment: find out what evil vampire Maverick is up to as he plots to take down Magnus, the leader of the Blood Coven (and Sunny's boyfriend). Rayne teams u ...more

Rayne is faced with her new role as a vampire slayer. She's learning everything, from which vampires are which to the art of carving her own wooden stake. To complicate matters she must work with Jareth, a vampire who makes Rayne's head spin.

Add to the adventures a love interest for the girls' mother, a dangerous, unknown vampire virus.
Rayne teams up with Jareth, second in command to Magnus and a vampire who is not impressed with Rayne. Can Rayne slay the evil vampire and find out what is bothe

I reread this book as part of a personal challenge to finish series I started but never finished. I now remember why I didn't finish it. The entire book is written in teen-speak. This makes sense as it is a book about a teenager written for teenagers. I found it a little annoying but I was willing to deal with that for a good story. It also made the MC's voice particularly strong. That's what did me in because I can't stand the MC. I didn't like her in the first book and an entire book from her ...more

Stake That by Mari Mancusi continues the story of the twins Sunny and Rayne. The second book focuses more on Rayne as the main character. Rayne who wants nothing more than to become a vampire and has her first attempt spoiled by Magnus biting the wrong twin. Now that she is on the waiting list again for a soul mate vampire as bad luck would have it Rayne finds out she is the next in line to be the Vampire Slayer. This could be the end all of her vampire dreams. I enjoyed the second book overall ...more

The characters are better than the first book but the style of writing is so much worse. I hate reading forum posts, absolutely detest them with their slang and short cuts. I made it to chapter 12 but ended up skipping chunks of the book to get to the story. I took a break from reading it to read 3 other books. When I came back to it, I reread the last chapter I was on and got to the forum posts at the end of the chapter and cringed when some girl said "I'm so JELLY!" Ugg!

Another great book in the series.
One of the twins is now a slayer;
will she remain a slayer?
One of the twins needs to find
out what is going on with Maverick,
will she be able to?
Will she save the day or lose her life?
Very excellent Vampire series
and now on to book 3.

The second book in this series. This sister is more fun than Sunny, but all the text/blog/tweet speak was annoying to me. The author is talented and creates fun characters.

This sequel was very enjoyable. I thought it was fun to see the other twins point of view and life. It is a quick read and the author did a great job.

I really wanted to love this book. Honestly, I did. The storyline had great potential as did the characters but it all just fell short. Way short. Not only was the plot unbelievable and all too convenient, but Rayne, Jareth, Magnus, Maverick - heck, all the characters really, lacked depth and proper portrayal. If it wasn't for the humour I would have only given it one star. Everything else in the story - the average writing, the annoying and constant use of OMGs and FYIs (yes I get that as reade ...more

Aside from the fact that my dumb ass switched the order of the books (I should have read this one before Girls That Growl, dur), this book is total love. It leaves me wondering why Mancusi decided to get into Sunny's head at all (especially since she's "more of a Rayne girl"). Maybe because of the whole transformation thing but even then, I think telling it from Rayne's point of view would have made that first book a whole hell of a lot better.

Rayne's kind of like WTF? with the whole slayer thin

I absolutely love this marvellous book! It was a fast-paced, exciting read that got me sitting down and finished it in less than two hours! I bought and read this book quite some time ago but Stake That has been one of my favourites which I have re-read many times.

In case some of you might find it strange that I read the second book before the first, I would like to say that when I first bought it, I thought it was the first novel or probab
Before I start gushing about how much I love Stake That, I'd like to say something. *coughs* This book was the book that got me hooked to reading. Yes, I know how cliched vampires are but I love them anyways I admit though that this book was recommended to me by my one and only sister when I was in middle school and at the time I wasn't much of a book reader but as soon as I gave this book a chance I fell in love. Now enough of rehashing my book past. You guys want the juicy details of why I lov ...more

The second book in the Blood Coven series it just as entertaining as the first. The story continues where the first left off and it gets even more complicated.

This book is told from Rayne’s point of view instead of Sunny’s . She is still documenting her journey to become a vampire. She has not given up on this dream; however it is a little messier now because she is the new slayer. So to recap Rayne is the vampire slayer, her twin sister is dating a vampire. Can we say AKWARD! She receives her
i have mixed feelings about how to rate this book so im taking the middle ground. Rayne was a much more interesting character than her sister her punk rock attitude and sarcasm made her more entertaining. However she had a lot more teen angst which was less fun. The hero was oh so broody and frankly he acted a little teenage angsty as well despite being made before the 1800s. Now mind you i dont mind a tortured hero with a sad past but if you spend the entire book making him moody without tellin ...more

If you haven't had an opportunity to read my review of Boys That Bite, please click here and go take a look. It will give you some insight into the utter fangirl that I've now become for Mari Mancusi's writing. Oh yes, I'm smitten. Or as Mari would probably say once bitten, always smitten? Something like that :).

To reiterate what I've said before, what I love about The Blood Coven books is just how much fun they are to read! Sunny and Rayne are hilariously snarky characters, and they possess the

Stake That! leaves off where Mancusi's first book, Boys That Bite, ended. Goth girl Rayne is dying to be a vampire, and her sister, Sunny, is the one that is dating the vampire. As if Rayne's life wasn't bad enough, she finds out that her destiny is to be the new vampire slayer. How uncool is that? As the slayer, she is given a very special mission... she is to infiltrate the vamp bar where foul play is suspected to find out exactly what is going on inside, wielding a stake carved by her own del ...more

Stake That! was an enjoyable read, but I didn't find it had the same appeal as book 1 in the series. I felt the plot and characters were never fully developed, and that several major occurances were rushed over.

The first thing I found really odd is the fact that Rayne is a vampire slayer, and she procedes to plaster this fact all over her blog. Then she says, it's ok, as I don't use real names. About half way through the book, she switches to a personal diary - yet the same names are still used.

If you thought the first book The Blood Coven Novel was good Stake That gets better. The first book we are learning a little bit about Sunny, now it is Rayne turn. Rayne is Sunny's twins sister and wants to be a vampire but thanks to a mistake by Sunny's real true love Magnus which is the new Head of the Coven (Magnus was next in line after Buffy the Vamp Slayer no not Michelle Gellar!! got into the coven and killed Lucifent) Rayne is back to square one waiting for another Blood Mate which I thi ...more

Oh. My. Gods. Rayne, the goth girl who has always wanted to be a vampire turns out to be a vampire slayer! Seriously! I was in such a shock in the last book that I seriously could not think straight! I mean, a slayer?! But its not all bad, I guess, since Rayne gets to kill only the badies.

For Rayne's very first assignment as a slayer, she finds out that vampires within the Blood Coven seem to be contracting some weird disease and dying from it! What Rayne must do:

Stake That (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel) by Mari Mancusi is the second book in the Blood Coven Vamire series. It follows Rayne (sister of Sunny and lover of vampires) as she finds out that she is a Vampire Slayer. While she initially balks at the idea she agrees to help find out what has been going on with a vampire who is trying to take out Magnus (Sunny's boyfriend).

This second book in the series continues it's success as a comedic paranormal romance. Told in blog and diary format Rayne's voic

“Hi, my name is Jareth, and I'll be your- God" He curses as he lays his eyes on me.
I raised an eyebrow. "You'll be my god? Hm...Well, we'll have to see about that. I mean, it takes a lot to my world these days.”
“Where have you been?" I asked weakly. A few minutes ago I would have rather died than questioned him. Let him know I care. But I'm too sick to be strong, kick ass Rayne at the moment.
"Vegas" he says.
I raise an eyebrows. "Uh, okay. Win anything?" I can't believe he was off gambling as I lay dying. I mean, I know poker is hot and all, but couldn't he have waited a couple of days for that straight flush?
"I got what I went for, if that's what you mean."
"What, a lap dance?"
He chuckes. "Even sick, you're still funny, Rayne.”
