For millennia, the shape-shifting dragon warriors known as the Pyr have lived peacefully as guardians of both the four elements and the earth’s treasures. But now the final reckoning between the Pyr, who count humans among the earth’s treasures, and the Slayers, who would eradicate both humans and the Pyr who protect them, has begun…

Kiss of Fire by Deborah Cook

First in the Dragonfire series. 3.5 stars.
Quinn is a Blacksmith and several hundred year old dragon. Sara is an accountant recently taken over her late aunt’s mystical bookstore (that doesn’t seem to get any customers). Sara is proclaimed to be a Seer. The Smith and Seer are destined to save the dragon world.

The dragons are the colors of gem stones, each unique. There are human protective dragons and dragons that believe they are superior to humans and want to destro

This is the novel that got me into this series. I've read almost every one of Deborah Cooke's Dragon shifter series. I wasn't going to write a review for this, and originally I gave it 4 stars, but I changed to 5 because it got me hooked into a series, after all, so it was that good.

It's a unique storyline I haven't found in other series I've read. With a world-building that was tangible and believable (despite being fantastical). I loved the author's description of dragons. I've always loved dr

Boring and utterly forgettable.

Details slipped from my mind as easily as they appeared on paper. Characters blurred till they were nothing but shadows in motions. The plot itself could scarcely hold my attention as nothing intrigued me. Nothing caught my interest. And this was about dragons!!!!

The mere fact that there are dragon shifters should have kept me in the book😫.

OMG! I forgot how much I love this series! It has been awhile since I read it and I just have to tell you that is just so wrong.

Now, let me tell you my thoughts on the first book in the Dragonfire series – Kiss of Fire. Sara and Quinn are strong, charismatic characters that are easily connected to and I just fell in love with them from the get go. The romance is sweet and has lots of spectacular chemistry flowing from the pages but the relationship has a few stumbling blocks as Sara doesn’t bel

I liked the world-building and the characters, and, of course, it had dragons with interesting abilities. Mostly it had a good pace and a fair amount of action, but it still felt a bit mediocre. I´d read more of the series though, I´m quite curious about the world.

In this steamy fantasy romance, Deborah Cooke gives us a world with dragons in it. And not just dragons, but dragon shifters. While many other reviewers feel like the story is rather flat and boring, I loved it. The characters had their own personality before the book started, and their histories dynamic. Cooke gives us readers a basic, brief description and lets our minds fill in the rest. For example, we are told that Sara is a small, attractive 34-year-old woman. She throws in a few other sma ...more

I enjoyed the first story in the Dragonfire Novel series. Besides Quinn and Sara here is an assortment of characters; the good are good and the bad are cruel to having a lack of conscience. Other elements of the story has unexpected drama, suspense, thrills, twists and turns, danger, backgrounds in just the right places, and romance. And, if the Pyr hope to save the humans the prophesy needs to be fulfilled.

An event a millennia in the making occurs foretelling the beginning of a prophecy and the

This is a great beginning to a series about a race of men who are dragon shifters, destined from ancient times to protect humans. Once in each man's lifetime (which can be hundreds of years long), he experiences a firestorm that indicates he has met the human woman who is his destined mate.

Quinn is a super-sexy, strong, quiet blacksmith. That's enough to make him a great romance hero, right there! But he is also one of the Pyr, a dragon shifter, who really wants nothing to do with the old tradit

I need more world building here. The Pyr are dragons who have existed for thousands of years. They are in the edge of extinction and need the Smith and Seer to breed as they will beget the salvation of the race.

Here we see only a handful of Pyr. No culture, no structure, no organization. It sounds as if these few are what's left of the race but it is never explicitly said. Pyr's enemies are Slayers (Pyrs gone bad). Why did they go bad? Who knows. What is their endgame? No idea, but they are baaa

This is a pleasant story overall, with a worldbuilding rather well defined, even if it would benefit from some small adjustment here and there.
What left me doubtful are some inconsistencies: all these dragons fighting and spitting fire in the air, and normal people never noticed anything. Even with hyptonizing powers in their arsenal, how come nobody ever noticed smoke (a kind of smoke that apparently does not dissolve with wind or rain), burnt patches and holes on the ground and destroyed build

Wow! Just WOW!

You know how sometimes when you start a book it takes a couple of chapters to “get into” the story and characters? Well, this is NOT that book!!! This story grabs you by the throat immediately and draws you into the action. The characters, disbelieving Seer Sara and her destined mate Quinn, the Smith of the Pyr, create immediate and incendiary chemistry. The character development continues and deepens throughout the book as events of Quinn’s past are slowly revealed. This is, for m

Action packed dragon shifter story. Enjoyable well rounded characters. I especially liked the heroine didn't have to be obnoxious or arrogant to show her intelligence and strength. None of the characters automatically accepted other's words, they listened and made adjustments in their attitudes and opinions based on fact not what they thought. The romance was rushed because of the "firestorm" but then became caring for each other and the relationship grew naturally. Liked the world building and ...more

This was a great, well-written book. Sara decides to run the New Age bookstore she has inherited from her aunt, though she believes in logic and practicality, not fate, magic or dragons. Then she is saved from an attack by a man who turns into a dragon, and she isn't sure what to believe. Quinn is a member of the Pyr, men who can turn into dragons, though he's always been a loner. He senses that Sara is his destined mate and his only focus is to protect Sara and keep her safe. This book can be r ...more

I just discovered this series but not the author. I love Deborah Cooke's stories so I wasn't surprised by how she created this world in which dragons exist. The world building and the back stories for each of her characters is seamlessly woven into the love story while building into the next book in the series. The side characters she has added to this story are just as interesting as the hero and heroine. I'm looking forward to reading this series full of good and bad dragons, seers, ghosts and ...more

I enjoyed the blend of characters and the world-building very much. This is the first U.S. set dragon shifter book that I've read, so it was interesting to read the story playing out from a contemporary American point of view, in a more familiar landscape. Revealing Quinn's backstory through Sara's visions was an effective plot device. I appreciated that the story was primarily about dragon lore and their ancient factions and war, rather than a series of steamy sex scenes with a bit of uberly dr ...more

This is a lovely action romance. I especially liked the slow burn love story and the fact that Quinn and Sara didn’t hop into bed with the first glimpse of each other. Great characters!
