Conflicted feelings about this book

Honestly, I had a hard time finishing the book. The story moved way too fast and I just never connected with any of the characters because there just wasn't enough information about them. It felt like the author knew where she wanted the story to go, and the story concept was good, but she drove a bullet train to get there.

I just felt like if the author had slowed down some and given more details about the characters, the world the story was set in, and maybe some back story for them that the book would have been much better.

This was amazing, like a reverse Harem version romeo and juliet without the selfish ending. An amazing book, So in love with these characters and I'd have preferred it to be a series but even as a stand alone it was great. I highly recommend this one

Author has unrealized potential

This author could be good. She has the imagination going for her and if the story on the page matched what I am sure was in her head, I think she could be an accomplished writer. Unfortunately, that isn't what we get. This story is filled with every problem beginning author's suffer from. Not a few, a LOT. We get a lot of telling and not showing. Everything is so rushed we readers don't get a chance to experience anything. Not what's happening, not emotions, nothing. It also seems like half the book or more is missing. So in the beginning there was supposed to be a planetary alignment that is supposed to take place in a few weeks. That would give us time to actually get to know the characters and for them to get owe to each other. Unfortunately, the author decides to skip all that and make everyone's calculations wrong and the planetary alignment is now a few days away, but then everything happens that night. Wth? None of it made sense and it was completely rushed beyond belief. Planetary alignments don't get miscalculated. So the total relationship building just doesn't happen. Most of the time we are getting points of view that I can't remember who that person is because we the readers don't get to know them beyond a very brief interaction that isn't sexual with each. More of a quick conversation and that's it. The author then keeps trying to throw twists at us but they all fail miserably. Instead they come across as fake set ups. If the author would have taken then time to develop this story and set up the twists in a believable way that we would buy, then it could have been good. If she had developed the characters and their relationships it could have been so much better. If she had not rushed from event to event without setting things up for the reader, then this could have been a good story. If she had an editor to fix the many tense and grammar issues, could have been good. This pace was just off through the whole story. Truth is I am being generous with 3 stars here, but like I said, the author has the imagination. She's just not ready for publication without a lot of work.

What just happened?

Waitress to ...?

Mara is working at a local diner, being chased by Chase ironically. With his wingman, and packmate, Braxton at his side he may flame out repeatedly but he doesn't give up the hunt. When leaving work, Mara feels like she's being followed from the shadows but doesn't see anything. On edge since her grandmother was killed 2 years ago, she's pretty careful about such things. But when things start rolling they roll downhill fast. House broken into, wounds, broken into again, bites, kidnapped, stories about another realm and sacrifices, multiple mates, reincarnations, witches, wolves, vampires, warriors, shadow walkers, so much inundates her. Someone must have wished for her to live in interesting times.

Spoilers ahead:

There was a lot of promise in this book. I had read her devil introduction and her Tess series (the 1st one) decided to try another of hers. The devil one was good. The Tess one? Not as big a fan. But, anyways, back to Mara... Another reviewer described it as a bullet train and I have to admit that it's an apt description. This could have made an interesting trilogy if fully fleshed out. Instead it is a cramped, holier than Swiss cheese, story line. Where did this prophecy originate? No elven blood so why would her blood be connected to a portal to that realm? The need for multiple mates is explained but that's about it. Betrayals abound with very little logic. They're all reincarnations but no memory of such. Which to me just screams all new person. The "romance" is rushed, faulty and oddly mashed in to plug plot holes. The Walter issue at the end is just... Well, I don't know what it's for but it didn't work. Seriously, it like all these great ideas are there but it was rushed together just to get it out there instead of nurtured along to greatness. I would love to see this tweaked and padded out at a later date. We aren't discussing the grammatical issues and other errors until such time, though, because it just adds to the craziness going on lol.

I really wanted to like this and the premise was good which is why I gave it three stars. Unfortunately the execution was messy and convoluted. It really needs a good content editor to go over it and untangled the mess. With some work could be excellent.

Good book

Nice idea for a fantasy book. Much better even because it's reverse harem. You get it all in this book, shifters, vampires and cool hybrid. I like these characters work together.
