8th volume in the Bug series, and features the first asshole uke in this series, which is actually a pretty refreshing change in this series. In the beginning, when MC insists that he can’t love anyone romantically and doesn’t want to be loved either, I thought, “oh, is he an aromantic? That would be interesting” It turns out he was traumatized when, at the age of 7, he overheard his mom saying he was not needed in his extremely matriarchal family. I understand such an emotional damage would be severe for a 7 year old and can last well into his teenage years but MC is 30 years old and still can’t put his mother’s words in perspective and move on from that. And somehow, illogicality, all that result in him doesn’t want to be romantically involved with anyone so he can’t get hurt. I also don’t understand where his low self-esteem comes from, when he is clearly respected and admired by almost every one. The best part of this book is actually the sweet extra stories in the end.
