Burying his wife is the hardest thing Joseph Garnet has ever done—until he's called to leave his young son and baby daughter to fight Iroquois raiders. When one of the marauders tries to steal his horse, the last thing he expects is to end up tussling with a female. The girl is wounded, leaving Joseph little choice but to haul her home to heal—an act that seems all too fam ...more

Carrie Schmidt (Reading is My SuperPower)
One of the things I love most about these books is the way the title of the series has more than one meaning – meanings that play out on the pages of the books so beautifully. ‘Hearts at War’ obviously reflects the tumultuous times in which the series is set – from the settlers’ war with the British to their skirmishes with neighboring Native American tribes. It also, however, is reflected in the characters themselves, in the way the hero’s and heroine’s beliefs/politics are often in conflict wi ...more

Angela Couch is one of my favorite historical romance authors and her latest release, The Tory's Daughter, did not disappoint. Couch has a gift for weaving tension and romance into every scene and her beautiful descriptions bring the story to life. As a fan of the series, I enjoyed visiting with Joseph Garnett from Book 1 again. I cried and cheered for Hannah and Joseph to find their path to forgiveness.

If enemies to lovers (for want of a better word) is one of your favourite tropes, this series was written for you. Personally, I find it even more compelling when political divides are involved—as they are in all of the books in this series so far. For some reason, nothing stirs up loyalty (or animosity) quite like political opinions, and I’m always fascinated to see how a hero and heroine manage to look beyond their differences to find common ground.

Despite the similarity in basic premise, each

I have loved each of the books in this series, so it will hardly come as a surprise that I also love this book. Unique from the first two books in this series, the story features a mixed-race heroine and a Caucasian male at a time when those things mattered far more to society. A larger problem, however, was that while the heroine's mother was born of the tribe aiding the British in their war against the colonies, the heroine's father was a known Tory. She is forced to return to the town that dr ...more

Angela Couch has written another great tale of the trials and hardship of the American Revolution era. Her characters embrace the changing times with questions, rebellion, prejudices, hope, and love. I look forward to the author's next installment in this series. ...more

My review today is on the Historical Romance, The Tory's Daughter. This book takes place in the 1780's in Mohawk Valley. This story is well written, heart warming, and full of faith. I know you are going to love it. I have always enjoyed books from this time in our history.

Joseph Garnet is a widower with two small children. He is visiting his wife's grave when he and his brother-in-law are called to a neighboring farm that is under attack from the Otetiani's raiders. They ride out to help save t

This has just been a fantastic series and I've really enjoyed each and every book. The historic aspects of this series have been such a big draw for me. Angela Couch did a fantastic job with the time period.

The book kept me pretty well sucked in and my husband often found me stirring dinner with the book, luckily he's used to me burning food!

The characters were well written and every time I though they were going to get a break another bend in the story happened. The series truly keeps getting

If you love marriage of convenience stories set in the background of war, you will love the emotional tension of this story. I’m a huge American Revolution fan purely for the complexities that come from families and neighbors whose loyalties are divided. Angela does a great job delving into all the facets of living through these complexities and finding love during hardship and personal struggles.

What I liked:
Although this story was a marriage of convenience story, it felt different than most I

The harsh way in 1781; the wars between the British, French, Indians and countrymen were times of such strife. Father's against sons, neighbors against each other and God at the helm. There was a faith that kept them together, brought them together and yet stood between them. It was in Mohawk Valley that this story was framed and yet some traveled far and wide seeking men who had been taken from farms and forced into battle. This book is that story and time. I had tears in battle and lost love a ...more

I wasn't sure about this book because I'm not overly familiar with that particular time period, but I decided to give it a read anyway. The author instantly grabbed my attention and kept pulling me in. I'm a sucker for marriage-of-convenience stories, so I enjoyed seeing how the main characters would navigate their relationship. There were a couple of times when I wanted to slap some sense into them, but overall it was a satisfying MOC historical romance. ...more

This is the first book I've read by this author and it was amazing! You can feel all of the emotions and you feel like you are right there. I love her style of writing and can't wait to read more of her books. I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. This is my honest review and I highly recommend this book. ...more

The Tory’s Daughter is a historical romance by author Angela K. Couch. Although this is book three of the Hearts At War series it can be read as a standalone. The setting is the late 1700’s.

The female protagonist, Hannah Cunningham, disguised herself as a raider in order to follow the opposing team. Joseph Garnet and Hannah were enemies, though he saw beauty in her. She had wanted to kill him, though she saw he was handsome. Before the war they had been friendly neighbors. Now if they did not ma

Fascinated by history and in love with creating fiction, Angela K Couch has been lost in writing novels most of her life. As a passionate believer in Christ, she can't help her faith from permeating the stories she tells. Often her martial arts training, love of horses, and appreciation for good romance sneaks in there as well.
