The name of the book is completely misleading It should be named "Subscription-based prepaid IT services for small businesses". The author has a very "interesting" definition of managed services, cloud, and many other aspects. After re-defining the meaning of the book, I was curious to finish to see how things are done for small business. But that's all that I got from this book.
I originally read the first edition back in 2008, that was the year I expanded from consulting into ‘running a business’ with staff and a brick and mortar location. Karl’s methodology is a cookie cutter recipe to get you going and save about 2 years of making mistakes learning by trial and error. I received this third edition for attending a training session that was somewhat unrelated through an affiliation of sorts.
After reading through this I can say I didn’t get much value for my business but I can see the series of steps to get you to where I am today. So I am rating it 5 stars because someone starting from scratch today, or converting some half baked small business consulting side business over to a full time managed services firm, will be able to follow the checklists in this book and have a simple and effective strategy to follow.
