Jordan’s Game #3

The Boyfriend Experience

Rate this book
It’s a simple request. But the girl…

Well, she’s not so simple. Oaklee Ryan is a pragmatist. She lives in reality, she deals with facts, and she’s goal oriented. So when she paid a visit to Jordan Wells asking for a game, calling it, “The Boyfriend Experience”, he thought he knew what she was getting at.

Wining, dining, maybe a date to a wedding to appease her meddling mother…

No. That’s not quite what Oaklee had in mind.

Lawton Gabriel took this game as a favor to his friend. And it only took him five minutes to regret it. Because Oaklee Ryan is insane. She’s loud, she’s demanding, and she’s dead set on getting her way.

If she thinks he’s gonna turn into her version of a boyfriend…

Just. No.

He’ll do anything it takes to get out of this crazy contract!

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

This was such a fun read! I always say that I love that I never know what I'm going to get with this author and she just proves it time and again.

Lawton has had me mesmerized since his first appearance in previous books and not only was he not what I was expecting, but I loved him even more for how he turned out.

The other unexpected part....for being part of the Jordan's Game series, this was a more light and fun and really was different from his usually games with the previous couples.

Oaklee was a such a cool character. I loved her spunk and her sass. Lawton was a total sweetheart. For the Boyfriend Experience, he nailed it!

You'll be in for one entertaining experience with Oaklee and Lawton that will have you laughing and you get to see some familiar faces.

Do you even want my review? It's going to be a long one. Probably. Maybe. I guess we'll see.

I've wanted more of Lawton since he first hit the scene back in, what was it, Turning Back? His Turn? I don't even know. What did I know then? That I wanted more of him. I wanted to see him naked and sweaty and preferably with a man. Jordan to be exact. Did I get that? Well, I won't tell you that. What will I tell you? This book is another mindfuck that only JA Huss can provide.

Lawton needs something. He needs a partner, preferably a woman. And when Jordan offers him a game, he can't refuse because it's exactly what he needs.

Oaklee Ryan is in need of a game. A Boyfriend Experience, if you will. And Lawton is the perfect man for the job. He's good looking, smart, and knows his beer.

Can I get the deluxe boyfriend package? The one with the multiple orgasms, foot massages, and a fierce sense of protectiveness? Can I get the man in the suit and the one in the biker jacket?
Because if there's something I have come to know and love about Julie's writing, it's that she can make me want both. Spencer Shrike, the biker. Mr. Romantic, the suit. See. She gets me.
And Law? Well, he's this sexy combination of the suit and the biker.

If you're a fan of Julie's you're going to LOVE this book. Not just for the couple, but for all of the little visits to some old haunts. The trip down memory lane will have you asking her for more books featuring some of your old favorites and some of the new favorites you didn't know to want.

You're going to love this ride.
You're gonna find yourself wanting to move to LoDo just on the off chance that Shrikes really exists. You're gonna want to find Turning Point and Cookies and Bronco Brews.
And you're gonna want to close the book only to start it all over from the beginning because you've finally realized this is the world you want to live in.
At least I know I want to live there. I want my ink to come from Sick Boyz (or Girlz), I want a Shrike Bike, and I want friends like Oaklee and Jordan and Law. I want friends like Vivi and Chuck.

See. I told you this could be a long one. And I blame Julie for that. I blame her because she writes worlds that feel so freaking real and characters that feel everything. And yeah, I want to stay in this world.

Lawton Ayers is #Mine

It was insta-love at the closing chapters of His Turn, when Law made his debut for just a very small scene at the end of the Turning Series that was setting up the start of The Jordan’s Game Series. I can’t even explain it, but there was just this spark that was there, in the way that Jordan gives a brief description – I had to piss all over that and make him mine.

With much like the Mister series, JA Huss delivers a lot of laughs, mixed in with her trademark twisty-suspense. I seriously did not expect to laugh as much as I did. I figured I’d be swooning and gasping and wondering what was going to happen next – and I did do all those things – but the best part was the smiles and laughs.

Law is a real estate mogul who has had it. It wants something new, something away from the city. Oaklee just forked over a ton of money to Jordan to play one of his games, but with no one willing to take her on, Jordan – the forever fixer, pairs these two up.

Oaklee gets the man for her game and Law gets a partner so he can hopefully land that real estate TV show deal he’s been working on. And while the title, Boyfriend Experience seems pretty self-explanatory, what Oaklee had in mind is not exactly what Law expected.

I think what I loved the most about this story were the characters. There was no way to avoid falling head over heels for these two. I could have read about these two just sitting down and having idle chitchat and loved them just the same. And while I have loved all the books in this series – these two are my favorite. It’s not even about the storyline being my favorite – it’s all about them.

There were some other amazing things about this story that made me nostalgic. We return to Fort Collins and to some familiar spots for fans of this author. I love that even after five years, I can’t get enough. I am ready for Jordan to finally get his book. I am ready to put aside all my worries over trusting him – I am ready for some hot m/f/m filth.

Well holy Shit!!!

I freaking loved this book hard!

When I read a JA Huss book I’m never disappointed, it’s always packed with so much you just can’t put it down, then when the end is nearing you become incredibly sad because you just don’t want it to end and that’s exactly what happened to me with The Boyfriend Experience.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

When I went into this book I kind of had an idea of what it would be about, a girl hiring a guy to make someone jealous. Never in my mind did I see this actual storyline that Julie came up with. It was so much more than what I thought, it was scheming, personal and down right crazy with equal amounts of sexy and dirty. The perfect combination for the perfect book.

Oaklee and Lawton are incredible characters similar in many ways but different in others and it makes them go together well. There was a certain time that my heart started aching and I legit wanted to throw a gut punch at this guy but then no, no I love this guy. I love him and I love her. She’s crazy and awesome and he’s just right for her. Then there’s Hanna what kind of crazy is she? Seriously, mental I tell you.

Oh and let’s not forget all the Shrikes that appear, I love them hard and Jordan, oh man, he’s intriguing, I can’t wait to see what his story is all about.

Reading a JA Huss book is always a pleasure. Her hard work and time always shows in her books. They take you in to a world of your own and leave you telling everyone to shut the fuck up so you can finish. (or is that just me?) Her books are always enjoyable and I can’t wait to read more from this series. (I need to get started on reading the first two) If you’re looking for your next read I’m going to suggest this beauty, you won’t regret it!

Have you ever been in one of those moods where you wanted a romance, but you weren't sure what you wanted to read? It's been happening to me quite a bit, lately. Contemporary, Suspense, Comedy or something that brings all the sexy? Well, with this book, I hit the jackpot. It had all the things.

Lawton Ayers needs help. A real estate millionaire who's sick of the city, he thinks he has the perfect plan to get away from it all and start the next phase of his life. But he needs a partner for this to work, preferably female, pretty, and successful. That's where his friend Jordan comes in.

Jordan has a client who wants an unusual game, The Boyfriend Experience. Oaklee Ryan is beautiful, a wealthy brewery owner—and a bit of a handful; which is why he has such a hard time finding someone for this game. With seventy grand on the line and just one day left to fill the contract, Lawton is his last hope.

They both need something, so it's the perfect match. Sounds easy, right? I mean, how could this possibly go sideways?

This book had me giggling out loud and on the edge of my seat AT THE SAME TIME! Lawton knows how to do romance (deluxe boyfriend experience, please). There's banter between Oakley and Lawton that will have you laughing one minute and swooning the next, all while you're trying to figure out what is going to happen. The suspense is real, and I wasn't expecting that aspect of the book at all. I may have thought I had it figured out how this would end, but I was so wrong, and that was such a pleasant surprise.

While I've read the Turning series by this author, I haven't read any of the Jordan's Game books yet. So, I read this book as a standalone—and it works that way. But I loved this one so much; I'm going to go back and read the rest of the series to catch up in time for Play Dirty. Jordan needs his happy ending, too.

The Boyfriend Experience was positively devious. And I mean that in the best way! I loved it! The subterfuge was expertly done - and the end game impossible to guess. The beer sounded so, so good. And the Eastereggs abounded.

Oaklee is in need of a boyfriend, but not in the way most romance heroines need a boyfriend. Lawton is in need of a female partner to help bring a big plan together. Jordan works his magic and you have the beginning of a new game.

I really enjoyed every moment of this book. Oaklee was not harsh and brash as Jordan led me to believe she would be but she was desperate and frantic searching for a way to solve her problem. Law on the other hand was the perfect gentleman in every way. Except in the sheets. Which is where it counts.

I loved watching these two connect and romance each other with their very personalities. There was very little relationship drama and what was present resolves itself pretty quickly. There is a ton of outside drama however and I never wanted to see someone get their comeuppance more than I did with this particular villain.

This is a fast paced, fun and sexy read that had some crossover from Huss’ previous works. I particularly loved that! You will not be lost if you haven’t read them but they are definitely the icing on the cake. And now to wait for Jordan’s story because holy gawd I’ve been waiting a long time!

Now that was something else—nothing quite like what I expected at all, but in an entirely good, surprising and exciting way. Actually, The Boyfriend Experience just might be my favorite one out of all the books in the Jordan’s Game series so far. It was a wild rollercoaster ride to crazy town—that’s for damn sure—but it was also sweet and refreshing and immensely entertaining.

“Like you. You’re chaos, Oaklee Ryan. This whole game we’re playing is chaos. But that’s what I like most about you. The challenge.”

If Lawton Ayers was being sold, everyone would be lining up, throwing every single cent they have to own this man. Because he isn’t just like any other boyfriend experience. Not even the deluxe package. No—he’s within the levels of supremacy. He’s so much more than just a scorching hot real estate agent who also happens to be richer than god. He’s a guy who knows what he wants, goes for it, and would not hold back in spoiling you rotten. He’s so special and charming, there’s no chance you won’t fall under his spell right off the bat. Law is nothing less than the jackpot prize you win in a billion-dollar lottery—he’s just too perfect and priceless.

Oaklee Ryan is a different story all together. I didn’t know what to look forward to when it came to this girl, especially when I reached the midway point of this book. But she definitely continued to shock me at every turn. At one point, with how the story was going, you wouldn’t even know what to believe in anymore or what was real. But know this—Oaklee’s absolutely one badass chick. She’s smart. She’s sassy. She’s fun with just the right amount of crazy. So just go with the flow and do not be deceived—that’s probably the best advice I can give when you dive into this.

It’s insane. It’s stupid teenage love. It defies logic and therefore, it isn’t real. It’s the situation we’ve been thrown into. It’s the game.

The Boyfriend Experience has more of an insta-lust and insta-love kind of feel, but it’s one that you’ll be able to savor and enjoy all throughout the story. Because it’s not all there is to it—there’s also so much more going on that will have your brain spinning and your heart beating out of control.

Honestly, to me, it has a bit more finesse compared to the first two books. It’s a lot sweeter and more romantic, and a teeny bit less on the daring and suspenseful side. Though don’t get me wrong—there’s still a whole lot of insanity and unexpected involved, but just on a different level. It’s quite perfect actually, especially after getting to know Lawton and Oaklee more. It just fits them. This story fits them. And if you’ve read J. A. Huss before, you’ll know that the steaminess will be out of this world. It’s magnetic. It’s provocative. It’s the fireworks you see on the Fourth of July.

If you haven’t read any of the books in this series yet, but are planning to, I highly recommend this one. All of them are standalones and are brilliant in their own way, but this one just hit all the right spots. And Lawton Ayers—you really won’t need anything else other than this man.

Just when you think you know what you’re in for with these “games”, along comes Lawton & Oaklee’s “game”.
So completely different from the first two games, this one had more of a drama-rom-com vibe, and almost zero “dark, mind fuckery” but it totally worked.
Loved Lawton & Oaklee together, the push-pull and the snarky banter adding to their underlying chemistry.
Was a fun and enjoyable read and I can’t help but think that with this read the author has (cleverly) provided us with some light, lulling us into a false sense of security before slamming us between the eyeballs with the final book. Jordan’s. Gulp.
Bring it on. I’m ready. I think... LOL.

This story was low key cute which was something I was not expecting. I think Oaklee and Lawton might be my favorite couple in this series so far!

After a slow start this turned into one humdinger of a read

3.5 stars

This is a contemporary romance with a lot of intrigue and some very unexpected twists. I loved the turning point series, though I struggled with the first book in the Jordan's Game series. However the blurb sounding interesting and I really wanted to give another JA Huss book a try. I was expecting something a little different to what I got. This author is known, amongst her fans, for playing mind games with readers, so part of me expected an intense read. The first half of the book, whilst not exactly bland, didn't reel me in. However the second half was everything I wanted and expected.

Oaklee hires a 'boyfriend' to lure a much bigger fish and try and beat an opponent who, it seems, is trying to take over her life. Lawton just needs someone interesting to pretend to be his partner for a TV pitch. Neither get what they think they want, but they do get what they need.

This was a book that I struggled to get into at first. By the 48% mark I had put it down and lost interest three times. Whilst I really liked Law at that point, I wasn't so sure about Oaklee as a character. I also felt the pace was too slow, leaving me a little uninspired. I think perhaps it's just too 'contemporary' for me, I like the story to have some darkness, kink or suspense too.

Whether it was taking a break from the book or whether it was genuinely that the story picked up but when I picked it back up I found that I felt a lot more involved. I really grew to like Oaklee, she wasn't quite the self-centred and brash individual she had first appeared to be. Law and Oaklee made a very special couple and I enjoyed seeing how both discovered that what they thought they wanted in life wasn't necessarily the same as what they needed. They made a really wonderful couple and their chemistry was intense.

Following a revelation given by Oaklee regarding her childhood I suspecting that . Well didn't the author play a blinder there and totally twist things around.

The second half of the book was fantastic, so much happened, so many twisty turns and revelations, almost to the point of feeling rushed. I would have liked the whole saga of Law not knowing who to believe to have been dragged out a little more and for the tension to have been built up over a longer period. That said this is still a well written and overall entertaining read. I even didn't mind that it was very insta-lust and even a little insta-love! Most of the book was set over a few days, though it felt much longer than that.

funny and cute...most of the times, BUT I didn't think much about the general plot and the background, or the actual reason for the game to be planned around it, in the first place...

Oaklee Ryan is the sole owner of an empire built by her father. Her beer brewery is well known and has won many accolades over the years. She is beautiful, smart and successful. She is also single. She needs Jordan’s help to take down her arch nemesis and he thinks he has just the guy for the job.

Lawton Ayers is a succesful, self made, real estate executive. He spends all of his time working and is yet to meet someone he wants to settle down with. He has pitched a TV show idea that is now gaining a bit of momentum but he needs a woman on his arm to really help seal the deal with the network.

An unlikely match up but one that Jordan makes nonetheless. It turns out this guy knows his stuff. Lawton is impressed with Oaklee, sure she is a bit off the wall but he kinda likes her quirky side and is happy to play the part of her boyfriend. In fact, he really enjoys it.

Oaklee may have been born into this lifestyle she now has but Lawton didn’t. His beginnings could not have been more opposite. You can’t tell by looking at him now, he has changed so much over the years. Spending time with Oaklee is a bit like a walk down memory lane, being with her is reminding him of who he was or maybe it’s who he really is?

Oaklee had no idea what to expect from pairing up with Lawton but she was not expecting to like him so much. On the one hand he is sweet, thoughtful and so caring with her. And then there is the incredible, multi orgasmic sex… this is a man who knows his way around the female anatomy and I inhaled every word of their ‘intimate’ moments together.

Aside from all of that, Oaklee is battling to save her father’s legacy, there are some cameos from characters and places from other books written by Julie and a whole heap of drama rama.

I have loved every book I’ve read that has been written by Julie and I have no idea why I haven’t read the other books in this series because I LOVED this! This can be read as a stand alone so don’t worry about reading out of sequence but I will definitely be indulging in in more of Jordan’s Game because this was so good ☺

The Boyfriend Experience by J.A. Huss is the third book in the Jordan’s Game series and in true J.A. Huss fashion we get a story full of the unexpected and surprises! Another game is at play where Jordan is the puppet master!

I absolutely loved Oaklee Ryan. She is so smart and quirky and has no filter and does as she damn well pleases. And because of this, not many men stick around. Lawton Ayers is sexy and charming and in need of help. But Oaklee was more than he ever expected and has him wanting to run in the other direction!

Compared to all the other books in the Jordan’s series, The Boyfriend Experience was on the sweeter side and felt myself swooning over-and-over again. Both Oaklee and Lawton have a purpose for this game and it was to be only that, a game. No true feelings were to be involved, but the more time they spend together, the more they fall. This book was fun to read, sexy, steamy and had lots of chemistry. And what of Jordan? I am loving him and cannot wait for his story!

4.5 stars! Loved it!

Wow. I’m not sure what I expected when I started this book, but I didn’t expect THAT!

This book was awesome.

I must admit that I was a little worried. I kept having squirrel moments in the beginning of this book, and I’m not sure if it was me, or the book. I’m notorious for not reading in order (my bad) and in this case, while Oaklee and Lawton’s was a complete standalone, and they were great…I felt lost in the beginning regarding Jordan’s games. I wasn’t sure what was going on and I felt like I’d dropped into the story. So honestly, it wasn’t until Oaklee took Lawton to the party and Hanna was introduced that I really became interested. From that point on, I couldn’t put the book down.

I called it as soon as Oaklee had Lawton do a taste test at her apartment and Law couldn’t figure out later why she had only a couple beers for him to taste, and they were so different. I knew then what the set up was and kept reading to see if I was right. And I was. And I was intrigued. And the story she then told Law…dang.

I’ll admit, while I loved the story, I also have problems with stories like (in general)…I hate the feeling of helplessness when the hero/heroine is in the right and nothing they do works for them, and the bad guy is always 10 steps ahead. It frustrates me to no end and I lost sleep over this book reading to see what was going to happen and see if Hanna actually gets her comeuppance or not. And lets just say, while things DO work out, there was a part of it I hated. I hated the “joint” venture announced at the end. I kind of wish that they’d pulled the clichéd “secretly microphoned” trick and announced Hanna’s wrongdoings to everyone in the world (especially since the media was there). But, that’s just me and my bloodthirsty need for vengeance.

Since I’m making confessions, toward the end of the book, whey they were forming a plan to bring Hanna down and Law and Oaklee were making up…I skimmed their steamy makeup sex to get to the good stuff…aka…BRINGING HANNA DOWN!

Overall, this book freaking rocked.

The Boyfriend Experience was such a fun and hilarious read!!! This is the third book in the Jordan’s Game series and in true J.A. Huss experience there are lots of Twists and Turns in a story full of the unexpected and tons of love, lies and such sizzling chemistry.
The story starts as Oaklee Ryan needs a boyfriend, Lawton Ayers needs a female partner and Jordan Wells needs money. It is time to let the games begin! So what is going on is Oaklee hires Lawton to be her 'boyfriend' to lure a much bigger person and try and beat an opponent who is trying to take over her life. Lawton just needs someone interesting to pretend to be his partner for a TV pitch. Neither gets what they think they want, but in the end, they do get what they really need. Oaklee and Lawton start out all platonically and on firm footing on their relationship and what was expected between them but things between them swiftly unraveled and became deeper, more intimate, richer. When Jordan sees both of them needy, dollar signs and an in for Lawton to do him a favor pave the way for the Game to spring forth. I know after reading a couple chapters, I was alittle lost on the plotline and such. I think if I had read the previous 2 books in this series, I would know alittle more about what was all going on. I would recommend reading the past 2 books before reading book 3, This book really shows the journeys that Oaklee and Lawton took together and separately. I did quite enjoy the path that all took and the sassy outcome.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

The perfect book boyfriend found at last!!

You never know what is going to happen when you get involved in one of Jordan's games. And this one was.... Perfect! Lawton is the perfect boyfriend. Seriously I want to marry this man. And JA Huss added so much to this story that it brings back memories and makes me want to start back at the very beginning. Cameos of some of our favorite Huss characters make an appearance, and I happy danced with every one. Back to Oakley and Lawton. Oakley is a say what you think do what you want kind of girl. Her antics are hilarious and I absolutely loved her from the beginning. This story made me remember that everything may not always play out the way you intended but that doesn't always mean it's a bad thing. Sometimes things play out better than you could ever have imagined. Oakley and Lawton are perfect for each other. Out of this series, this was my favorite book thus far. But I can not wait to hear Jordan's story.

This book was everything! It had suspense, hot passionate sex, angst and it was so funny! I found myself smiling almost all the way through it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Boyfriend Experience.

This book is about Law and Oakley. Everyone thinks Oakley is crazy and Law is just plain hot. When Jordan sets these two up you don’t know what to expect. I certainly didn’t. A crazy woman and a guy who wants a partner for his tv show? This can’t possibly go right and it didn’t. Or am I pulling a Hannah? :^}

I loved The Boyfriend Experience. I keep reading that everyone says it was a fun read but it really is. It keeps you on your toes, that’s for sure! I can’t wait for Jordan’s book. That definitely should be interesting too!

JA Huss is one of my top five authors. I buy every book she writes and love each and every one of them. The Boyfriend Experience is my favorite in this series. The characters are fun and realistic. Their life is relatable. There isn't one person around who doesn't know someone who they thought was a friend then stabbed them in the back. Lawton Ayers and Oaklee Ryan are trying to figure out where to go from this point in their life and they need each other to get there.

Another fun trip into the world of Huss. Full review on Badass Bloggettes: https://wordpress.com/post/badassblog...

A lighter, funny read than I anticipated but that didn’t mean that it didn’t have everything that I have come to love and expect from a story from J A Huss. Yes, I laughed my a** off but darn it I would lay money on the fact that you will too.
As I expected the story had every explosive element that I know Ms Huss has locked away in that formidable arsenal of hers and whilst there were more twists and turns than I could keep up with without the risk of whiplash, the story certainly didn’t lack emotion either, and they left me totally wrung out.
The character pool was sensational, of course, Jordan had a hand in setting things up and it didn’t take long before Lawton was regretting giving in to Jordan’s request because being the guy to provide the firecracker that was Oaklee Ryan with the requested “Boyfriend Experience” might just test him to his limit…because it doesn’t take him long to discover that she’s a handful!
Mistakes and misunderstanding, demands and disagreements, love, lust, pain and passion this had it all and it made sure that it didn’t give any indication of just where it was heading until you were ready to bang your head off the nearest wall or hurl your book/kindle whatever, straight across the room.
There may have been times when I was frustrated with myself for being impatient with the characters but that is my shortcoming and not the story but believe me, you will need to exercise restraint because this had more drama in it than I could have ever imagined.
Sensational writing brought to life the most fantastic story and left me happy in the knowledge that this is one of my favourite reads of the year so far.
Please do yourself a favour and pick this one up ASAP!

If I had to describe The Boyfriend Experience in one word, it would be "FUN". The third installment in Jordan's Game quartet, TBE departs from JA Huss' usual dark and twisty and takes a walk on the whimsical side (keep in mind it's all relative). Oaklee is looking for a fake boyfriend and Lawton is looking for a fake girlfriend but it's not for any of the tried and true reasons - wedding, reunion, beard. Oaklee, the heir to a craft beer empire, has a corporate espionage problem on her hands in the form of her former college roommate turned SWF "stalker" intent on taking Oaklee's place as the craft beer Queen (a kingdom of hipsters and lumbersexuals). Lawton needs a life partner to be his co-hostess to sell his reality realtor lifestyle show to the network in order to achieve his dreams of a mountaintop Gainesian empire. A business quid pro quo.
Not for long. Sparks fly which leads to no strings sex and the hot, sweet entanglements that always seem to follow. Throw in Vivi Vaughan as a sidekick, a Shrike Bike caper and everything Huss that makes me squeeee and you have the perfect read to kick off the summer. See what I mean? FUN.
Mr. Perfect has met his match in Lawton Ayers. I wonder who would take that bracket?

DNF 40% absolutely snooze worthy….

Confused on all the high ratings? There was nothing to look forward to. Both MC’s slept with each other fairly fast, Oaklee wasn’t insane/crazy like the blurb had informed, and the reason Oaklee hired the boyfriend experience was so absurd.
They both acted like HS kids rather then adults in there late twenties. That should say enough…

Audiobook review: No complaints about either narrators both did a great job! It was just the book that wasn’t interesting.

***Received an Advanced Readers Copy during a blog tour with Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review***

Whew. I am honestly not entirely positive on what I expected with this novel, I mean the synopsis was like 'whoa' and my curious kitty peer pressured me into needing to read this. And now my curiosity is sitting here thinking - well nuggets, what the heck did I just read? But not in a bad way.. I just was not expecting that...

I say this because let me admit that at the jump, I liked the writing style, I liked the intro to the characters but within the first couple of chapters it really made me question my sanity. I was not sure if this would be a book for me. This was mostly in part because once you dive into the prologue with Jordan, then meeting Oaklee and Law it more or less confused me. Like, maybe I was missing a piece to this puzzle of the plot, it made me feel like I was just thrown into a pit and hit my head because I did not understand why Oaklee needed this boyfriend. Though to be fair, I have not read books one and two, now I think I need to, but honestly I don't think that was specifically the missing puzzle - it was just how Oaklee treated Law in the first meeting, like - why? Which I don't want to say where my thoughts are because HUGE spoiler, but just felt like I was thrown in the middle of a story and maybe I was missing something...

On top of this, I couldn't get a feel on the characters. Normally in the first tidbits you always get that initial connection of who you anticipate on liking or disliking, a feel for the plot twist, but that definitely doesn't happen here. It is a build. Not disappointing in the least, just took a smidge to get invested, but once I kept trucking along I got the feel that this was going to be a whirlwind of fun, entertaining swoonage.

So what did I eventually pick up from the characters that made me keep reading? Honestly I can tell you I was on the fence about Oaklee for majority of the novel; she was slight crazy and borderline insane, but not unjustified. I liked her personality, she was fun, cunning and I really needed to be her best friend, that is for sure. I questioned her in a lot of moments because as the plot thickens of her brewing business, her nemesis Hanna, and her earth shattering growing affections for the charming Law who was supposed to just be a hired show boyfriend, she just has these awkward moments. So I was really back and forth with her, do I trust her, should we trust her, or is she playing a game too... couldn't quite put my finger on it.

And then of course, the delicious, charismatic Law. Lawton at first annoyed me. There I said it, I admit it. But he grew on me. My issues mostly dive from the fact that his inner monologue somewhat hinges on this awkward feminine view point. Literally his inside thoughts were what I imagine a woman to think like... it bothered me a little, but as the story developed, he started to appear more masculine. And please don't take that the wrong way, I just think at times he was more a valley girl and not this macho man meat. But again, as the story continues he changes a bit, and a bit for the better. I really liked how he treated Oaks, he was respectful and just a decent guy.

Though both have questionable motives for this contract they have in place during Jordan's Game, they still build a really great insta-love relationship that really felt real. As their chemistry really takes flight they become this all-consuming, just intense feels with that lean on me kind of romance. They build into this bubble together where they explore one another and grow together.

Seriously.... the sexy time - oh my.... delicious.

Overall, I liked it. I won't deny that it did take a bit for me to really invest in the characters, allowing myself to really connect with the characters. Even as the plot continued to twist and turn I was constantly thrown for a loop which definitely kept me interested through to the end. And even though Oaks was absolutely bat-shit crazy, she was fun, quirky (definitely my kind of crazy) and blended really well with Law. They just had this amazing build with one another that made the ending the perfect spot for them. And that ending..... just more shockers that just kept rolling in.

I definitely want to add more Huss to my TBR, after getting a feel for her writing style I think she is definitely an author I need more in my life.

Wow. Just wow. I'm stumped as to where to start with this review. I have so many thoughts about this book, and they're all trying to come out at the same time. Once again Julie has managed to throw me for a loop with her stories. The Boyfriend Experience is another example of how I thought I knew what was going to happen, and everything but is what takes place.

So since I've read each of these books as they released, I knew just a little about Lawton Ayers. He's a real estate agent who is extremely successful and is a friend of Jordan Wells, the man who is putting all of these games together. Up to this point, each of the games he's orchestrated have been "sex games", these secret games that have somehow become the buzz of Denver. So I figured that Oaklee Ryan's game was going to be one too, in some shape or form. After all, she's asked Jordan for "The Boyfriend Experience" And as the heiress to Bronco Brews, I figured she wanted a game because she is just stretched too thin to go the traditional, time consuming route of trying to date and find a man.

Yeah, that is not at all what she had in mind when she contracted this game with Jordan. And not at all what she gets when Jordan enlists Lawton to play this game with her. Turns out, Oaklee needs Lawton for a very specific reason. And coincidentally, Lawton is in need of someone exactly like Oaklee for reasons of his own. So it's a win win situation, right? Well, not in the twisted world of J.A. Huss. Nothing is ever what it seems, and even if you think you're following along with what's happening and you're all giddy because you have this all figured out....BAM! Everything other than what you thought is what ends up happening!

I loved Oaklee and Lawton together. They fit together so seamlessly right from the start. They've only known each other for a few days but it's like they've been a couple for years. Okay, I said this was not at all like the other sex games we've read about in this series, but that doesn't mean there wasn't sex to be had, and had A LOT. And hot damn, Julie is the queen of writing the scorching hot sex scene. I'm not even going to try to describe it, or how I felt reading it, you just need to read for yourself. But yeah...it is perfect.

There are so many twists and turns in this story. The emotions I felt were intense and wide spread. I was pissed, outraged, indignant on behalf of Oaklee, ready to plot the disappearance of a specific character. But I also had a lot of fun, happy moments, some laugh out loud episodes, and I feel it needs mentioning just one more time, some awesome sex scenes. And to round it all out, there are introspective moments, times when I felt like I wanted to wrap both Oaklee and Lawton up in my arms and shower love on them.

If you've lived in the Shrike World of Julie's like I have, you'll love seeing some of the old gang with a few new family members that I quickly fell in love with. Add in a couple of the characters that were introduced in the other Jordan's Game books and I was in hog heaven. I have to say right now, as much as I have enjoyed each book in this series, The Boyfriend Experience is really my favorite. That may change when the final book comes out, but I absolutely loved Oaklee and Lawton's story. There is just SO much to it, things I could talk about all day but ultimately everyone just needs to read it for themselves and experience the story. I can't wait for everyone to meet this couple!

The Boyfriend Experience by J.A. Huss was such a great read!
This is my first book to have read in this series (Jordan's Game) but not my first book by this author and as it's a standalone I dived right into the story. I was mesmerised in no time and got so easily wrapped up in all the drama that unfolded within. I absolutely love this author's style of writing, she is so quirky and different with her storylines and she easily draws you into her books with her wicked sense of humor, and her characters are always well developed and have that certain something that as a reader you can really relate to them and everything that they are going through.
Oaklee and Lawton's story was super hot, it gave me plenty of laughs as they are both playful characters, and with all the things that they get up to it made for a very exciting read. They are a couple with really good chemistry that lead to some super steamy sex scenes. But as well as lots of sex and romance there is plenty of suspense, intrigue and suspicion that had me trying to guess who was telling the truth right up until the end.
I enjoyed this book very much and will be checking out more books from this series in the very near future. A brilliant 5 Star read!

Received ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my gosh I bloody LOVED this book!

At first I kinda struggled to get into it (sometimes I’m like that) but I’m glad I kept going!

Firstly, Oaklee.... I love her, she’s a crazy, kickass, feisty woman that will take no crap from anyone. I love the fact that she’s not selfish and can be vulnerable with Lawton even if she kinda struggles with it at first.

Secondly, Lawton.... I love him too, he’s a badass alpha male with some seriously sexy moves. Again I love that fact that he’s not selfish too, that he treats Oaklee like an equal and supports her (even if he made a mistake at first) with everything that happened with Hanna (she’s a bloody psycho, well done with that character Julie)

Thirdly, the storyline... I loved it, I loved the insta-love, the drama, the name drops, the craziness of it all, the HEA, I just absolutely loved the story as a whole!!

I’ve read a few of Julie’s books and she’s never disappointed me, she truly is one of my favourite authors and I can’t wait to read more of her work!

Thank you Julie!!

I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone!!

4.5 stars.

Oaklee wants the boyfriend experience and with Jordan’s friend Lawton needing a partner to parade in front of
in the hopes of scoring a part on a new tv show it seems like a match made in heaven and the perfect way of them both getting what they want out of their fake relationship. Poor Lawton really has no idea what he’s signed up for though and what starts off as a quick, easy solution soon turns into something more as he learns more about Oaklee and her reasons for wanting the boyfriend experience.

I found Lawton extremely easy to like. Oaklee is strong, sassy and independent. She knows what she wants and she’s successful in what she does. I wasn’t expecting to like her but surprisingly I did straight away. I loved the chemistry between the two of them, Lawton’s super sweet gestures won me over in no time and I admit I desperately wanted them to realise they were made for each other.

I really enjoyed The Boyfriend Experience. I haven’t read the previous Jordan’s Games books yet but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. This is a fun, entertaining romance that’s left me wanting more.
