विश्वास पाटील यांची 'पानिपत' कादंबरी खूप वर्षापूर्वी वाचली तेव्हा आवडली होती. म्हणून कुतूहलाने मी ही वाचायला घेतली आणि फार निराशा झाली. जी अलंकारिक भाषा/वाक्ये एखाद्या ऐतिहासिक कादंबरीत शोभतील, ती इथे फार विसंगत वाटतात. आणि दर पानावर अशी एक नाही तर कित्येक वाक्ये आहेत (खाली नमुने पहा). कथानक देखील फार काही लक्षवेधी आहे असे नाही. त्यामुळे एक चतुर्थांश वाचून मी शेवटी नाद सोडून दिला -

राक्षसाच्या जबड्यातून आगीचा लोळ बाहेर पडावा तसा फॅक्स मशिनमधून कागद बाहेर आला

मी सत्तेच्या शृंगारलेल्या घोड्यावर विराजमान होणार आणि तू अंथरुणावर खिळून राहणार

सिंहीणीच्या गुहेत अचानक शिरणाऱ्या वटवाघळासारखा तो पुरता गारठून गेला
