Harnett Thomas Kane was a journalist and author of books about the American South. A 1931 graduate of Tulane University, he was a longtime reporters for the New Orleans Item, and he wrote travel articles and book reviews for a variety of publications.
Detailed social history of New Orleans told in a familiar, folksy tone. Each chapter is a stand alone topic, while references to previously introduced characters provide continuity. Publishes on 1949, it reflects the culture in which it was written as well as the past it reflects on. Picked up my copy in a used bookstore in New Orleans.
An informal history of N.O. that is told through personal stories of various people of importance or character. It does not read like high school history book.
