Here at BooksForTopics HQ we are huge fans of Isla Fisher's Marge in Charge books and we have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the newest one, Marge and the Secret Tunnel. Charming, witty and full of laugh-out-loud moments, we were happy to find that the latest instalment was well worth the wait.

Jemima and her little brother Jakey always look forward to their unconventional babysitter Marge coming round to look after them. Marge has rainbow hair and doesn't seem like other grown-ups at all, and despite Mum's list of important rules pinned to the fridge Marge always seems to stumble into hilarious adventures.

In this collection of three Marge stories, Jemima discovers a deep hole in the garden and when Marge comes over to babysit it seems like the perfect time to explore what is inside. As usual, Marge takes on the challenge gleefully, leading the children underground and through the secret tunnel. In the later stories, the trio embark on an unusual shopping trip and an important quest to rescue the neighbour's lost kitten.

Marge has a song for every occasion and plenty of room for imagination and creativity. These short stories are a real hoot and are just brilliant for reading aloud to children in KS1 or lower Ks2.

If you haven't discovered these books than your in for a treat,

As I was reading this, I found myself smiling, Isla Fisher's writing reminded me of my favorite children's author, New Zealand's own Margaret Mahy.
Jemima Button is seven and her brother Jake is four. Their parents, when they go out, leave them with a their babysitter Marge. Marge is short, serious and wearing sensible clothing and a hat. But as soon as their parents leave the hat comes off and you can see Marge;s rainbow colored hair and colorful clothes. Every book features three hilarious adventures.
The stories about their escapades are funny, not too long, or too challenging for newly independent readers.

After reading Zurcher's "Twelve Nights" (an absolute horror), it was so delightfully enjoyable to read this light-hearted story about two little kids and a very unique babysitter. This time, they go through a tunnel, go shoe shopping and hunt for a lost kitten. Very witty and funny and you can't help having a few giggles along the way. Sometimes, a little far-fetched but still kept within some sort of realistic framework.

‘Life with Marge is NEVER boring! Even shopping for new shoes turns out to be an amazing adventure, especially when the lights go out and the children are stuck in the shop! This book was great.

I am a huge fan of the Marge In Charge books, and Marge And The Secret Tunnel didn’t disappoint.

I love the fact that there are three fantastic stories in this book. I means I can read from start to finish or pick a story and just read the one. Having multiple stories makes this the perfect book for bed time reading. You can read one amazing story each night.

Eglantine Ceulemans’ awesome illustrations perfectly compliment Isla Fisher’s story and add an extra layer to this amazing book. The illustrations really help to bring the characters and the wacky scenes to life.

One of the great things about Isla Fisher’s Marge In Charge books is that they can stand alone. You don’t have to have read the first one in order to have read Marge And The Secret Tunnel.

If you have a young reader in your life, this book would be the perfect addition to their bookshelf. With humor, love and adventure radiating off every page, I can see this book being a favourite of many young readers.

Marge And The Secret Tunnel by Isla Fisher is the perfect book for young readers and their families.
