Bah. It didn't get as weird as I'd hoped in the second volume. They pretty much stayed the course, focusing on the doings of the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and Spider-Man, with some devoted to the X-Men and a bit about the Inhumans. It got a bit cosmic with the arrival of the Silver Surfer and Galactus, but other than a bit with Doctor Strange, didn't dive into that side of things.
I don't know. Looking at when the Surfer and Galactus first arrived, maybe the whole of the Marvel Saga series focused on the 1960s. Maybe that's why we didn't see the stranger stuff.
Anyway, the series lays the foundation upon which much of the rest of the Marvel Universe is built. By the end of this volume, I think you've got the general status quo established, and a lot of it remains fairly true today, as far as I know (I haven't read anything released by Marvel in probably 10 years, so I could be full of crap).

Nice continuation of the first volume. Between the two books, readers gain a wonderful overview of the history of the Marvel universe leading up to the first time Galactus threatens the earth.
