It's true that this book was written some time ago, but I still find it helpful today. It was immensely helpful in finding places to stay around the area where we live; the Pacific Northwest. I love the color pictures and vivid descriptions of each unique inn and hotel. My husband and I are big fans of bed and breakfasts and although we've stayed in plenty of chain hotels, the independent bed and breakfasts are truly special. We have stayed at several of the places listed in this book, and have rarely been disappointed. I'm not sure if there is a newer version but even if you find an older version like this one, it's worth taking a look. Chances are the establishments have a website with updated information. But at least you can get a feel for the place before you venture out. You may find a hidden gem of your own. I am definitely going to see if there are newer books in this series because they are worth it.

This book was pub. in 1994. Twenty yrs later when you look at the many color photos it is sad to note what was once the hight of class, luxury & romance now just looks dated, old, scary & trashy. Though some of the establishments listed in the book will forever remain venable instituations, research is a must. This book is heavy on the B&B's. I am not a B&B fan for romance. Am I the only one who thinks honeymoons, sexy weekends & the like are not enjoyable in old houses with creaky floors and noisy beds? The walls are paper thin and you have people stacked "cozily" above and below you. Then in the morning, you are all suppose to stare at each other and make polite small talk over breakfast. Might as well book the Honeymoon Suite at mom and dad's house for all that charm. The only people B&B's sound romantic to are single people and the senior set (who don't know they have pills for that yet).

I borrowed this book from the library as a guide for me and my husband to plan an anniversary weekend away from Eugene. This book had a few places to consider that I had no idea existed so close to home! We actually booked a trip at the coast because of a review in this book.
