If you're interested in giving bdsm stories a try, I'd highly recommend starting with Vonna Harper. -- eCataRomance Reviews

Raw

Reporter Smokey Powers has come to a small Oregon town to investigate a developer's disappearance. But from the moment she wanders into a local art gallery, she's captivated by a stunning photograph of a hawk in flight. . .and by her urgent need to meet the photographer, to touch him. . .to know him.

Reckless

When Smokey comes face-to-face with Mato Hawk, a member of a local tribe, his masculinity overwhelms her. For once, this ambitious career woman is learning what it means to submit in every way. Again and again Mato takes her to the brink of release, becoming more dominant and demanding, awakening every inch of her body to pure sensation until she's never felt more alive--or less in control.

And Red Hot

Seduction was a way for Mato to stop Smokey from jeopardizing his people's land with her investigation. Now their desire has become an unstoppable force that's wild, risky, and deliciously unpredictable. . .

About the author

Vonna Harper

151 books142 followers
Under her "real" name, Vonna Harper has published more fiction than she can keep track of . These include category romances for the major players as well as the 'juicy' stuff. She also penned a series of well-received Native American historicals. One earned her finalist status in both the Women Writing the West Willa award and Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association. Before discovering romances, both erotic and otherwise, Vonna 'confessed' all kinds of nonsense for the confession magazines.

When asked about erotica research, she insists, "Of course I've time-traveled to the ancient Everglades, infiltrated bondage strongholds, done wilderness search and rescue, and spent a night trapped in a workout gym with Mr. Universe. How can I possibly write about something I haven't experienced?"

As for day jobs, "I've been a commercial pilot, brain surgeon, worked as a white-water river guide, bee keeper, snake charmer, and garbage collector."

I just got done telling Kat I was going to see this book through to the end, but it turns out I value my brain cells too much.

What IS this? Like, why does my library even have this book? IT IS TERRIBLE. At first I was just laughing at it, but now I kind of feel sorry for it. The characters come across as childlike idiots. Their POVs switch without warning. Sometimes the male MC speaks in single words like a caveman.

There's a disclaimer on the back cover: WARNING! This is a REALLY HOT book. (Sexually explicit)

Well, that is strange, because this book has the most unsexy sex I've ever read. EVER. The female MC seems to have a sort of "tee hee!" attitude going on when it comes to sex and all the words that apply to it. Here are just a few quotes I didn't include in my status updates:

Sex. Hard. Anonymous and stupid. (51)

Already! Less than a minute after coming in here, they were having sex. Fucking! (53)

Ah, what was that, his nail kissing her labia? (99)

Her brain was both swollen and nonexistent, her legs little more than liquid fire, her spine both cold and hot, her breasts hard and heavy, arms straining to either embrace or reject him. (107)

Honestly, that last one sounds like medical issue.

So no, this book was not sexy. It was not hot. It could never, ever be hot.

Things That Are Hotter Than This Book (in no particular order):

Antarctica

the Polar Vortex

this guy

liquid nitrogen

these benches

Elsa's hands

I actually requested this from the library. Someone printed out a label with my name on it and put it in my spot with other things I'd requested. Hopefully the employees are used to my strange ways and don't judge me for this. Because this is seriously embarrassing.

3.5 stars. The second half dragged some due to what I felt was a relentless repetition of the basic conflict between the two. But the first half was great and I still enjoyed the book and was anxious to find out how it would be resolved. If you're interested in exploring a bondage/forced seduction fantasy, you'll want to check this one out-- or try Captive Warrior, Spoils of War and Roped Heat--they have similar plots. I also liked Dangerous Ride, Scarlet Cavern (heavier BDSM), Dark Touch (dark in general) by Vonna Harper, not that I've read all her books (yet). P.S. This is an erotic romance, expect graphic sex.

Second time I've not been able to Finnish a book. Ms. Vonna Harper's book just happen to hit too close to some personal issues I have. If you like hard core control freaks dominates then you'll enjoy these. For myself I draw a very thick line at being forced into any situation, even if it eventually turns into consensual. NOT FOR ME. I don't believe in Stockholm syndrome! I believe it's wrong to idolize or befriend one's captor!
