Do you like books centered around fey?
Do you like reverse harems?
Then this is the book for you.

Franchesa is the Princess of the Light Fey and is to wed the Prince of the Dark Fey.
But things don't always go to plan.
Having to watch your fiancé suck tongue with who you thought was your best friend (your only friend really) is a hard pill to swallow, especially when you have had to watch him flaunt his exploits for the past two years without him even giving you a second glance.
When an opportunity of a lifetime presents itself to Frannie, she jumps without any questions or hesitations.
Three years have passed and Frannie is forced to return home.
War has broken out in the their lands and her marriage is just a stepping stone to help heal the lands.
But things don't always go to plan.

This story is a lot of build up and background.
We get a lot of Franchesa's history and why things are the way they are.
I really enjoyed getting that information.
A lot of the time books jump right into the action, but I liked getting the history.

It has a great plot line.
This story isn't like anything I have seen in the reverse harem community yet and I love that.
I'm a huge fan of the fey and while these are slightly different from some of the fey I have read about, it doesn't stop you from getting sucked into the book.

It is told from mainly one POV, Franchesa.
However, we do see a few chapters told from others POV.
I don't want to give those away in case it spoils it for you.
It's necessary for those chapters to be told from a different POV than usual though.
You get insight into a little more information than what you previously would.

This is a reverse harem as I have mentioned before.
However, I kind of like how it isn't clear cut who exactly is in the harem as of yet.
I can hazard a guess to a few I believe are in it, but I have a feeling there will be one or more that will surprise me.
And I'm interested to see how that dynamic will work.
It will be an adventure in itself.

I'm curious to see where this story will lead.
For the harem to be formed.
Especially since this book ended on a cliffhanger.
I sincerely hope book two is close on the horizon because I'm dying to know what will happen next.

This is a little different than previous things I've read and I think some of that has to do with romance side of things.
I'm used to most of the harem guys being friends or at least know about each other a bit.
This one is not quite like that.
It made me like it a lot.

I would definitely recommend this book.
In fact, I have already told a co-worker to read it.
I think since it is different that it will draw people into its story line.

Franchesca has the life of a typical princess and hates it ! Parents that have planned every aspect of her life all the way down to the prearranged marriage! Chess wants NO part of this ! The idea of being married to a prince that has flaunted bimbo after bimbo in her face for the the last 3yrs is not something she will take lightly! So when the opportunity presents itself in the form of a Fairy God-mother of sorts, Chess takes it ! Only to return to find her kingdom in shambles ! She must now step up and become the Queen that her people need, but can she do it ?

* I love the supporting Characters! Everyone needs a friend like Shelby and Colton, Poor Colton! I am still holding out for him ! Just maybe with a little luck and fey magic he will be added to Chess's harem !
* I love the fact that this is not a CUT & DRY RH , It keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing about what men Chess will choose !
*Great Debut Book Series for Riley W. Can NOT wait to read the next !!!!

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the authors*

I bounce between a 2.5 and 3 for this one. It's the authors' first book and I'm always in awe of those who finish something, but I thought this debut could've used a few more work. I read it a few times on different days thinking my opinions on it would change, but it hasn't. I thought the whole idea was interesting (cause who doesn't love the fey?) but what I just read felt more like a really good starting point for something that could've been better.

I got sidetracked with a few things, the main thing being the culture itself. Normally I don't care about the details if the story is engaging enough, but because it wasn't, I ended up thinking of other things, like what exactly it is that their world strives on. What makes up the world? Why do all the characters at one point and another use slang words? Why is there a Jacuzzi in the castle if they don't like humans or the human world?? Just that alone made me want to get a better build up of the world she left behind for a time. Other things bothered me, but since I don't want to spoil anything, I'll just say that I wasn't feeling the time jumps, some things felt a little imbalanced, and as of now, I am not feeling any of the characters except Colton, Rook, and strangely, Bianca. Bianca was a weird one, but I kinda got her and I actually low key appreciated her, as I consider her one of the few with more depth than the others.

I'm not sure if this is a mistake in the ARC I received, so I'll just say it isn't a mistake, in which case, this very act makes me dislike Frannie. I warmed up to her when she was sixteen and drowning in a sexist society (that still doesn't sit right with me but that's a personal opinion) but when she grew up and continued to be sorta sassy with an attitude I just didn't really appreciate, it made it really hard to enjoy the rest of the story.

Overall, I'm saying I couldn't click with it. If this wasn't a debut, I probably wouldn't read the next book, but I don't like to judge writing based off a single book, and I actually really do find Rook's character interesting. Maybe by book two, things will be a little different?

This book is amazing! The dynamic duo that makes up Riley Walker hit it out of the park with Knight. Franchesca is the princess of the Light Fey and is supposed to marry to Dark Fey Prince to unite the kingdoms in harmony. You get to see Franchesca grow as a person, and you can't help but love her. She is spunky and hilarious. The men are sexy, alpha, gets your heart pounding, and your panties melting. The cliff hanger at the end is killing me and I can't wait for Rook to come out so I can know what happens. Fantastic job Riley Walker you have a fan for life! Thank you so much for letting me be an ARC reader.

this book started out good slight spoilers don't read if that bothers you.

the main character gets betrayed and flees to the earth realm meets friends has fun i was really started to like the story until she gets dragged back to her "fey" realm (which we know hardly anything about)
things started to go downhill fast she finds her "mate" and of cause he's already dating and chooses the main character ex best friend... i dnf after that im sure they get together and she happily forgives him eventually

sorry i don't want to be harsh because im sure alot of people are going to adore this book but it wasn't for me.

I think most of my disappointment stemmed from being hyped up to read this one. I just strongly dislike it whenever a read turned out to be not for the likes of me.

The story line, world building and overall concept is simple. Although, the whole idea of unification of kingdoms/species through a heroine will never get old imo. It's just up to the author on how she will spin it off.

I am not too engrossed with the heroine. I sympathized with her, yes, but I'm still on the fence because I have yet to connect to her on a deeper level.

Edrik and Winston. I just couldn't enjoy them. Both of them are pretty dubious heroes. Both of them used the very same girl against the heroine. But apparently both of them loved the heroine too much. Or at least trying not to overwhelm her with their lust love. /Commence the petty eye roll/ WhatABunchOfBS It's really difficult for me to trust men like them. I'm tired of romanticizing and over-glorifying them on both real and fictional worlds.

Why can't they be more like Colton? Poor guy who was actually sure of loving the heroine (just observe his actions AND words. I mean, get a guy who does both. lmao)

I find Rook kind of interesting. But whether I'm interested in him due to his mystery, due to not knowing him or whatsoever...I'm not sure.

Absolutely amazing debut novel! Riley Walker wrote a masterpiece! The book kept me engaged from beginning to end!

We follow a Fey princess. We watch her be betrayed and flee to the Earth Realm. Here she meets 2 people that become her best friends, develops an addiction to coffee (can we blame her?) and learns some fighting skills. But something forces her to go back to her own realm.

I can't wait for book 2.

Slow burn but worth every second you have to wait! Franchesca is a fey princess coming of age and being thrown into an arranged marriage. At the last minute, she is given a bit of freedom and enters the world of humans. She has to return home when a war has broken out. She then finds that she is still betrothed, finds her Fated Mate and learns more about her history. Edrick is a super hot Knight who lives to protect the princess. Winston is her "a$$hat" betrothed. As the story unfolds, you will not be able to put it down! Twists and turns are unexpected along with intrigue, betrayal, and of course love. Great writing and editing. Can't wait for Rook to be available.

This was a hard book to rate. I settled on 2.5 stars, but of course that isn't an option. Here are some things that influenced my rating.

Negatively:

** The writing is really difficult to get into. It definitely has the feel of a new new new and very young author to it. You never feel like the author has a good grasp on the characters or their motives and a lot of the dialogue sounds like when someone knows they are being recorded, so they say things that really address the camera (unknown person watching) rather than the actual person they're talking to and it is super awkward. The character and world building is completely reliant on this kind of dialogue where they say things clearly just for the audience's benefit like, "Hello main character, as you know you are your father, the king's, favorite daughter" (not a direct quote, just an example).

** I realize I just touched on the writing portion, but it really affected a lot of things. The writing skipped around a lot. Basically, it just hit all the high points of the story and felt more like a summarization of a story than an actual story. I get that it is probably really hard to spend the time and energy writing all of the necessary elements of a full length book. This felt like instead of letting the characters develop, take their time, and maybe have a few boring pages of character development or time passing- it just skipped to the highlight reel.

** The writing was from first person (mostly from the heroine, but some side characters pop in) but it sounded like she was a 14-year-old girl writing "Dear Diary..." It was a real turn off.

Positive:
** At the end I was literally like "DUH DUH DUH!!!!!! it's about to go down! Book II, let's go"-only to find out that book II doesn't currently exist. So a positive of this book is definitely the overall story arch. You are curious about what is going on and where it is going.

In Summary:
So even though this book was a tough read, I enjoyed myself. This is why I rated it at 2.5 stars. The writing is rough, the characters shallow, the dialogue awkward, BUT I did make it to the end with my curiosity about the story in tact. Will I buy book II if it comes out? No, but I sure will read it if it is on KU like this one was. I think this author could do some good stuff in the future- the ability to formulate a story is there... Great authors make it seem easy and flawless and it is always hard to read an author just starting out. The first book is never (in my experience) a winner. That goes for any author... Even those I adore. That being said, I will probably follow this author over the next few books cause I really think there could be some good ones from RW in the future!

Franchesca has a role to play in her life. She has always known that she is to marry the dark fey prince Winston. Her being the princess of the light fey, she has a duty to fulfill. She lives a very protected life, she even has a Knight named Edrik. Who she may or may not have a crush on. She is prepared to do said duty, even though she has put up with Winston parading women in front of her over the years. After all he is just having his fun before the marriage is to take place, Right? Until one night he goes too far. Helped by Gretchen, her nanny since birth, she is whisked away in secret to the earth realm. There she gets a chance at a normal life. She gets three years of freedom, makes two best friends, Shelby and Colton and comes out of her shell. She has fit in, in this human realm, more than she ever back home She has discovered coffee and loves it. A hair straightener, which was very much needed. She is going to college, does not know what for yet but she will figure it out. And thanks to MMA classes over the years she is leaner, meaner and maybe alittle bit of a fighter. Than one night she gets a knock on her dorm room door, her Knight has come to take her back home. There is war that is raging and she is needed to fulfill her duty and unite the kingdom.

Riley Walker is actually the writing duo of Amy Naylor and Kelly Stephens. I love these two together. This is their first story and I have to say they did an excellent job!! I loved this fast paced story of a dark fey and light fey. How they have to come together to keep peace and fight against the Renegades. Loved the characters and their interactions with each other. Tons of humor and snarky comments. I really liked the nickname game that seems to being going on lol. Franchesca, is a fun female lead whose wit just cracks me up, her use of nicknames, I do believe Winston's is my favorite. She loves deeply and there is nothing she wouldn't do for those she cares about. Edrik, is alpha hotness, protector and perfect for her. Her two best friends, Shelby and Colton, are the perfect side characters that helped her grow and experience life. You really will want them as your friends. Winston, hated at first but by the end I felt he was coming around. Rook, there is a lot to discover there and I cannot wait for the next book to find out. Overall, I really enjoyed Knight. The characters are fun, the storyline is fast paced, kept my interest, and leaves on a cliffhanger that will have you saying nooooooo!! But it is such a good cliffy.

First read and debut book by this author

Francesca is princess to the light get, with an arranged married in the works to winston of the dark fey she’s less than happy...she is actually in love with her knight and protector Edeick..and winston from all appearances is arrogant and a womaniser. After catching him with her only friend she is devastated by her friends betrayal and with the aid of her nanny is slipped to earth via a portal. After spending 3 years on earth she is called home. There is a war brewing between the fey and the renegades and her best earth friend Shelby has been kidnapped.

Fantastic concept and a good start.... The differing charachter pov’s was a good idea... we get to see their motives and understand them a little more but I don’t think they needed to be labelled as they were in the book as ( edrick’s POV) as it was prettt apparantly whose POV it was.
The other slight grumble was with the understanding some things from the human world but not others... jacuzzi in fey but didn’t know coffee?

The charachters were good but I didn’t feel a connection to them, I don’t feel like I know Edrick and that was a real shame I think this was because at time it felt a little rushed.

I received this book as an ARC in order to provide an honest review. This in no way will influence my review because I believe it will be cheating myself, the author and any other readers that read my review.

To be totally honest I don’t give 5 star ratings very often so with that said I find myself teetering between a 3 and 3.5 on this review.

The idea behind this storyline was really good. When the book begins Franchesca is young and unaware of much that is going on in her world outside of her small and unfortunately isolated bubble. The rest of the book takes the reader on her journey of self-exploration, growing, and building of relationships. Toward the latter part of the book the true drama begins and the characters start to acquire a little more depth.

The storyline is pretty fast paced and a bit lacking on description/detail and at times I found myself wondering about things that were glossed over or not addressed. I wish the author would have spent a bit more time building the world for the reader and diving a little more in depth on each of the characters. Had the author done this I believe my review would have been a solid 4.

Overall I did like the book and look forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Great book

I LOVE THIS BOOK. Keep that in mind while you read the following. The story arc is strong. So strong in fact that my main complaint is that it needs more. Each chapter reads like an outline that needs filling with a bit more detail.
For instance Frannie is laying in some sort of pool with Knight. What was she wearing? How big was the space? what did it look like? We find out in the following scene that he removes her bathing costume but there’s no mention of it previously.

There is a lot of story to get through so I understand a little why time and events were summarised but I want those scenes in college to sit in class with Frannie, see her character grow and learn about history, find out what she knows already about her world, portals and humans. Really delve into how she changes her perception of the world. The first few chapters in the castle could probably have been a book. College another one and I would have been over the moon.

The humour was great. I will love these authors for all time for bringing in an Emperor Penguin and having chapters like big pink evil wand. I can’t wait for the next one.

✨YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK✨

Omgoodness where to start?
I had no clue what I was walking into when I started this book, I loved the blurb and cover but had never heard of the Authors and any of their work.
I am so glad I read it, I couldn't put it down, this book sucked me in so much I played Hookie from work to finish it this morning. (shhh)😀
This book is setup at the beginning to mid book over a period of years the Mc goes from ages 15 to roughly 20 yrs old. I was a little worried in the beginning having a Mc so young but they pulled it off masterfully. The pacing threw the years was so well written its like they cast a spell its so flawless.
The building of each character is so well defined you have no problems telling them apart.
This book has jusy jumped to my all time favorite #2 spot.
I have not laughed this hard in many years and I thank you for it (my fiancé on the other hand doesn't) I woke my entire house up at 5am laughing so hard even while trying to keep it quiet. (🐧) So I Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a wonderful book.
It deserves

Great debut novel for Riley Walker! I loved the concept of this book and really enjoyed how the story unfolded throughout Book 1. We get to meet our MC and she has to deal with people she cares about stabbing her in the back and treating her horribly, all while being heir to the throne/princess. Thank goodness she has a fairy godmother in her life and who gives her a chance to escape her painful situation and experience college on Earth. Later we learn she is needed back at home, to help with the growing disturbance happening across her land and the surrounding territories. I enjoyed getting to know the MC and her friends and potential loves. I can't wait to see what happens in Book 2 and who exactly is going to be in her harem, since its not 100% clear in Book 1. I like a book that isn't predictable (there has been some of that with the RH genre booming recently) and has a fresh take on things, which this book definitely has. I see a lot of potential in Riley Walker and look forward to more books in this series!!

I had the pleasure of getting an ARC from this new author in exchange for an honest review.
I immediately loved the premise and plot line of this RH story. It is set in both the Faery and Earth Realm which I loved. I fell for the sass, wit, and determination of Frannie, our heroine, pretty quickly. In this RH series starter we are not introduced to the entire harem and I am so excited to see how the rest of the members are introduced and fall for Frannie.
Knight started with an intro to our MC, her world, and provided some good back story info to help move the story along. The writing started to fall into place for me around 2/3 of the way through, the action picked up as well and book 1 ends with a cliff hanger that has me dying for book 2. I think as the author duo continues to write their styles will begin to mesh and flow more seamlessly. I’m excited to see what this series has in store!

This book really took me by surprise. For me, it started off a little slow, but once things started rolling, I couldn't put the book down. I'm a big fan of strong female characters, so I usually don't read many books with a princess as the starring lady. I'm glad I read this because "Chess" really starts shine as her character develops over the course of three years.

I can't wait for book two. Warning, there is a cliffhanger, and as I write this, I have no clue what to do because I was so riveted, I was a little mad when my kindle wouldn't turn to the next page. The wait for book two will be torture.

Pros:
Humor/Banter
Sexy times
Character development

Cons:
Time was a little jump/too quick.
Would have liked to see a little more development of the realm.

Overall:

I enjoyed this book, and I look forward to seeing how the RH grows with each new fated one for our Queen. I can't wait to see what happens next.

A great first novel in the Chess Chronicles series. I’ve not read huge amounts of PNR but the premise for this really grabbed my attention

Franchesca is a Fey Princess, betrothed to Prince Winston but in love with Edrik, her bodyguard. Her betrothal is a political one and something she wants no part of.

She spends some time away from her kingdom, on Earth. Here she has a chance to live a different life, which although strange, she comes to relish.

Soon, it is time to return to her kingdom and face her future. Her destiny is much deeper than she thought, with the discovery of Fated Ones, magical powers and an impending war. Throw a couple of humans into this realm and the opportunity for action and adventure is limitless.

This book ends on a cliffhanger which, although expected, is frustrating. I can’t wait for the next in the series!

Brilliant start to what is sure to be a great series

Great debut novel for Riley Walker! A slow burn RH that I couldn't put down. Our MC Francesca is a feisty independent princess and heir to the throne who is being forced in to a marriage with a man she hates but can't help but feel drawn to. She is left devastated by a betrayal and with the help of someone very close to her she escapes to the earth realm and is enrolled in college. However problems back home will have her return and leave the people who have been her family behind. I loved the main characters and can't wait to learn what happens next and who all her love interests will be. I love how this book is slow burn and is not your typical RH it leaves you guessing and questioning what you learn. I expect great things from this author and can't wait to read more.

Absolutely Positively Amazing! Five ⭐️’s Worthy!

What can I say about this book? Well I can say this, it is AWESOME! It sucked me in before I had even finished the first chapter and it wouldn’t let me escape until I got to the end, which that ending man it sucked! Yes a cliffhanger I despise cliffhangers but luckily that just tells me that there’s more to come which I can not wait to get my hands on that book! First time reading anything by Riley Walker and I must say the authors that are Riley Walker definitely know how to weave very believable characters and realities that they seem so real! They moved themselves right up to the top of my number one favorite author list and I can hardly wait to read more of their work in the future!!
So yes I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a fantastic story to climb into and get lost in!

An adventure that gets quite yummy as it goes. A fey princess that really just wants to have a life. But instead she has a prince she must marry in the future. And all she knows is that she can’t stand him (he is a jerk) but she is drawn to him. But her Knight is the man she dreams of but can’t have. The story will take you on her adventure in the fey realm and the human realm. She makes friends but has enemies that are close, even closer than she suspects. The story has lots of fun and loving moments, some action and well some very interesting twists by the end. Things are sure to get very interesting in the next book. Can’t wait for it. A great book for any paranormal romance readers.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Franchesa maybe the Princess of the Light Fey set to wed the "AssHat" Prince of the Dark Fey but she is so much more than that. She wants her own life and not to marry a cheating AssHat. Her knight is her crush from the beginning. When she runs away to the earth realm she finds friendship, independence, strength, acceptance and a so many new things and ways of doing things. She is called back to her family and not by choice and what happens next is going to make you beg for the next book.

I also wanted to state I wasn't certain at first when I started reading but after she got to the earth realm I really fell in love with Franchesa character. Proves that even a good book can mislead you at first. This is one you will want to finish,

This is a fantastic debut novel. I loved everything about this book. The characters were so much fun, and the plot was very engaging.
Franchesca is everything I could hope for in a main character. She is sassy and smart. She has been subject to circumstances beyond her control, but she keeps fighting and striving to do the best she can.
The men in this story are very interesting. Her loyal fae knight, the "asshat" she is betrothed to, and the mysterious Rook. I'm intrigued to see how they all develop, especially Rook.
From the beginning, I was hooked. The plot is entertaining and full of action.
I cannot wait for the second book.

Omg! What a debut story in what is promising new series: Franchesca is a light fey princess with a duty to marry the dark fey prince to unite their kingdoms against a common enemy. Unfortunately the prince is not very nice and the princess just does not know what to do

Incredibly well written I was glued to the page and it gave me the squeals! With a fantastically fiesty heroine and some very gorgeous and colourful characters, the story is bought to life with all the excitement and drama. I am so very looking forward to reading the next book in the series, a totally epic first story highly recommend this read

I loved this book! The story line is wonderful. I couldn’t put it down! I love how much Frannie grew into a strong woman through the book. Knew what she wanted and would do anything for her friends. I also love how loyal her Knight is to her no matter his feelings he does his duty for the crown. Frannie being told she has to marry another to unite the kingdoms does not sit well with her to be forced to marry someone she doesn’t know. Since she’s in love with someone else ( no spoilers) then you have the renegades waging war against the kingdom with their leader Rook. Who’s attacking the kingdoms. He took Frannie friend and she will do anything to get her back! This is so a must read!!

Amazing Story

First off, Franchesca is a great main character. She is strong, sassy and fiercely loyal to her friends. The story begins with her in the Fey world when she is 16 and moves along the next 5 years of her life. Without giving too much away, there are ups and downs, travel between realms and plenty of relationship/friendship goals. I gave this story 5 stars because it is engaging from the beginning and kept my attention through a straight read through. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a slowish burn reverse harem series where the harem participants are part of the story progression.

Great debut to a new series with a little bit of everything.
Francesca isn't quite happy with her life as a fey princess betrothed to the dark Prince, she's escapes to spend some time on the earth realm. After being brought back she has become a stronger individual and is determined to rule her way.

I feel this books sets up nicely for what can come in the rest of the series, the book includes magic, shifters and a prophecy to be fulfilled. The multiple points of view were a great addition as it helped understand the characters more.

I am excited to see what happens in the next book and see how the plot is developed.
