About the author
Anne Wheaton
1 book30 followersAfter 17 years as a hairdresser, I retired from my career to focus full time on my true passions: my love of rescue pets, and helping my fellow humans. For the past 4 years, I have served as a Director for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, and as an Ambassador for National Women’s Health Week through the U.S. Health Department’s Office On Women’s Health. I also manage a non-profit my husband and I started called The Foundation To Increase Awesome.
My first rescue pet was an orange tabby cat who followed me while walking home from a friend’s house when I was 5 years old. (It was the 70s. Apparently it was a safer time?) After two days of searching for his owner, we discovered they had moved away and left this cat behind. The cat had gone out in search of a new family, and we became that for him. I never thought to seek out the family to find out why they left him, I just saw this cat who wanted to be loved and have a home. It was hard to understand at such a young age why anyone would do this, which is why I decided to write Piggy and Pug, the book little-kid-me would have loved to read.
I currently live in Los Angeles with my husband, Wil, and our three rescue pets.

When I grow up I want to be Anne Wheaton.

There are a few things that make this book special to us. #1. We bought it directly from Anne Wheaton when she came to visit Calgary. #2. She put in a dedication to my son. #3. The book sends home the message of why it is important to adopt a rescue animal and to be a responsible pet owner when you do have a pet. All of our dogs have been adopted from a shelter, and I teared up reading this book to my son to think about how little Pug could be so easily abandoned, and I teared up again to think about how easy it is to give him a home with just a little bit of love. A cute picture book with two characters you can't help but love. Warning: this book may leave you wanting to adopt a pig.

What a delightful story, with terrific illustrations. Do you like pigs? Or pugs? Or things that are good? Are you a child? Or an adult? This is the book for you.

I purchased this book from Anne at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, and I love that she signed it Pugs and Kisses. This is an adorable story of a pig and a pug finding friendship, and hopefully a lesson against abandoning animals.

This is a lovely children's book, well written and beautifully illustrated. I know my youngest grandchildren will love hearing this story over and over again.
Will Piggy and Pug find each other after Pug is abandoned and sets out to find a new family? Pug needs to find a new home, and Piggy is looking for a friend. My little listeners are hoping for a happy ending in a sad situation.
As a pet owner, and a nice person, I have never understood how anyone could leave a pet behind to fend for itself. Anne Wheaton to the rescue!
(For real. She rescues pets. She's a hero.)
I had the great pleasure of meeting Anne Wheaton at Denver Comic-Con today and bought the book directly from her. It was one of those great experiences that you don't often get and cherish for years to come.
If you have some little listeners to read to, or some young readers who will be moved by the plight of a cute little dog who needs a forever home, this is the book for you.
Highly recommended.

This is such a sweet and kindly told book!
I purchased this book directly from the author at Calgary Expo and loved the inscription of ‘pugs and kisses’ that she used. I’m making a point of sharing it with each of my nieces and nephews when we hang out, to get their reactions because it’s a fantastic message they all can learn right away. I may have gotten something in my eyes the first time I read the whole story, so I’m glad I read it alone first before sharing it. This book needs to be shared in classrooms to spread the message and importance of pet adoption and I’m going to do my best to see what I can do to help make that happen locally.

This is a lovely and loving book about a sweet little pug who needs a new family and a fun little pig who needs a friend. The writing is kind, gentle, and fun while the illustrations are bright and beautiful. Anyone who cares about animals would enjoy this book. I hope we'll see more of Piggy and Pug in the future.

Lovely story
Well written with beautiful illustrations. Good moral without being preachy. Presents pet abandonment and rescue in terms a child can understand.

Sweet animal friendship story! The reason Pug is looking for a family stung a bit but it was addressed later in the story.
