I really enjoyed reading this book during my first year of motherhood. As a new mom, my brain felt so foggy that reading was often a challenge, but this book was both accessible and rich with Scripture without ever feeling overwhelming. I started it within the first week of becoming a mom, and it made me feel seen and reminded me I wasn’t alone in what I was walking through.

The author, Erin, writes with a goofy, sometimes cheesy style (something I think she’d fully own!), and honestly, it was exactly what I needed in a season when I was crying from hormones every time the sun went down. Her words were lighthearted yet meaningful, and they met me right where I was.

If you’re a soon-to-be mom or a brand-new mom, this is a wonderful book to help you connect with God in the little moments while holding your sweet baby in your arms. Thank you, Erin, for being a companion in my first year of motherhood. Here’s to many more years of thriving while walking with Christ through motherhood!

I was looking for a light-hearted read from a fellow Christian mom. I can’t even finish this book. The grammar to seem “on trend” is too much for me.

Instead of feeling better, it was making me feel worse for not having a “mom tribe” like the one she described. I have many supportive people in my life but none like what she has stated.

For a Christian book, I felt like GOD and Jesus were always mentioned like an afterthought. Yes there was the “last but not least” written with His name or the “but most importantly” but if He is consistently mentioned last, it doesn’t seem like He is important.

Lastly, the “mommy wine culture.” I am not judging anyone who chooses to drink alcohol responsibly, I just personally don’t. However, when different types of alcohol are mentioned on almost every page in a specific chapter, it seems a little excessive. My desire to read Christian mom books is to get more of Christ being the focus and encouragement from a fellow mom. Not her favorite alcoholic drink options multiple times.

I know that some may love this book and that’s fine but it didn’t feel like a good use of my time personally.

This is hilarious because I stumbled upon this book exactly when I needed it. It was written like 53 blog posts basically, super snappy and kinda cheesy and all about speaking straight to the reader.
Well, I hate to admit it but I was totally that reader. She was all about what I face every single day right now. Tantrums, poopy diapers, nap schedules, baby food, no time to pee by myself etc etc. It was so relatable and I was there for it. The author was super eccentric and dramatic and over the top but I kind of loved it anyway. She just helped me feel less alone!
She also was all about Jesus and I really needed that too. She helped me gain perspective about taking care of kids, embracing the love of God and taking the pressure of myself.
Cute and fun read for mamas in the trenches with babies and toddlers and little ones.

I think I need to stop reading books written for Christian women as I almost never enjoy them or feel they would be a good fit for my library. I only read part of this book. The content was good, but as with so many books for Christian women the attempt at a friendly tone was over the top to the point of feeling patronizing. There is obviously an audience for this as there are many books of this type, but my library and I aren't it.

I received an ARC from NetGalley.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars. It was okay. I am sorry to say that I found her voice to be choppy and often like she is trying too hard to be “our friend.” I also found myself frequently confused by how she phrased things. On top of that, sometimes it felt like she was making references (maybe to movies? music?) that I just didn’t get.

However, the main content was helpful, encouraging, valuable and timely for me. I needed reminders like it not being a mistake that I am mother to my kids and that God cares more about the state of my heart than the state of my house. Hollis had some very important truths here; some that we either forget to apply to our motherhood status or we kind of know in the back of our mind but never stopped to really dwell on, etc.
Overall, I appreciated what she had to say, just didn’t mesh well with her voice.

Erin Brown Hollis is a legit Southern belle, and her sparkling, smart, honest sense of humor shines through her first book.

Even though it’s been almost a decade since I was in the diaper years with my children, I have been entertained and convicted by Erin’s book. Her tone is so true, you will literally feel like your best girlfriend is sitting by you (in her pajamas at a grown-up sleepover party) while you’re reading. I found myself smiling and laughing out loud in the first few pages, and it continued onward into the next chapters.

Erin admits that the diaper years are HARD. All of us who have been there can say, “Amen!” to that statement. But they are also precious in a unique way. How I miss the sweet kisses and innocent wonder of my children’s baby years. They are still precious to me in their teen/tween stages now, but there is something uniquely poignant about those exhausting, beautiful diaper years. Yet it’s harder to see that truth when you are in those years, and Erin beautifully and hilariously describes them.

She helps moms get through those crumb-covered, stained years with authenticity and faith. If you know a young mom feeling totally overwhelmed to the point of tears, you need to buy this book for her. Then babysit her kids for a few hours while she sinks into the tub and cries and laughs through this charming read. She’ll thank you forever for this gift!

Favorite quotes from Cheers to the Diaper Years:

Forget about having a pristine entryway and the most scrumptious treats. I want people to remember me for being gentle, joyful and kind.

The fear that you are not up to the constant challenges of parenting, causing you to feel like checking yourself into a recurring therapy session (or twelve), will creep in–often more than once throughout the day. You are not alone.

God already has an agenda laid out for the day…He already knows the noodles will boil and the babies will scream. If we just ask Him for guidance, He will get us through all of it.

I really wanted to love and connect with this book, however it was written in such a way that I had a hard time identifying and not taking offense from the way the book was written. Almost like being talked at instead of to. I think Hollis offered some good advice and really did try to help her readers, I just think the delivery could use some work.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

"Cheers" is like a refreshing gulp of sweet tea and a lingering hug for weary mamas everywhere. This delightful read is filled to the brim with biblical wisdom and humorous stories that "perfect mom" wannabes can relate to. Thank you, Erin, for changing my perspective on parenting from "I've-got-to-mom-now" drudgery to "I-get-to-mom-now" delight.

I was gifted this book after I gave birth to my daughter and it was a struggle to get through at times. I felt the author tried too hard to make a connection with readers by begging for friendship...more patronizing rather than endearing. It was challenging to read through the attempts at forging this connection with lingo and side comments thrown in all the time.

I did find usefulness towards the end (i.e. started dog earing some pages) with scripture lists and references based on what you may be going through as a mom. I applaud the author’s overall message.

While this book is very encouraging, it felt light and fluffy compared to the deeper stuff I normally read.

this had good intel/insight and Biblical truths; writing style was a bit casual for me, though.

I couldn’t make it through this book at all. I made it to page 68 after trying to read it for several days it’s just so boring and give no real insight into anything. Yes Christ is good and yes we should look to him in hard times but that could be said in one chapter not the whole book.

Thank you to @NetGalley for the copy of this one!

What a great little read on how to prepare for/survive some of these common things women face with children. There is no manual to parenting, no perfect parenting tricks, or guide to surviving the toughest days! I loved that this had a religious tie as well (letting go of guilt, guiding children with God's word, and finding the little positive moments through each of your days). Words to live by and probably reread with each new kiddo! Thanks!
