Hodge, an adorable bunny, is minding his own business . . . well, he's stealing some carrots from Mrs Sprat's garden, actually . . . when he ends up stuck in the hedge. Mrs. Sprat advances, wanting to get rid of the pesky bunny, and a buzzard overheard spies a tasty rabbit dinner, too. Can Hodge escape from bird of prey and angry gardener in time to take the carrots home? This lyrical story is perfect for reading aloud and packed with page-turning suspense. Illustrated by Briony May Smith, each page is full of detailed visual delights. A beautiful tale about kindness and forgiveness, packed with adventure and peril.

A cute rabbit who is caught stealing carrots from a gardener's back garden faces a scary time when she plots to remove the rabbit quickly before anything else gets taken. Very reminiscent of Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit with cute illustrations throughout!
The illustrations in this book are beautifully detailed in a hazy kind of way that helps the viewer daydream about gardens and rabbits and cottages. Unfortunately the story writting does not hold up to the same level of whimsy. While the author has at times managed to engage the audence with a kind of storytellers questioning the book language falls flat and the rhythm and rhyme are irregular in a way that distracts from the story. I re-read the book three times to make sure the failing was in the text and not in my delivery (though I guess this is subjective). I would not recommend this book but I would recommend the illustrator.
This is a really lovely story about a rabbit who gets stuck after eating too many carrots.
For my reluctant 3-year old reader it is magic. He knows the story by heart now and often pours over the pictures finding little details to talk about.
A rabbit gets stuck in the garden while stealing carrots from the farmer. Can he get unstuck and is the farmer the biggest danger in his world? Cute twist ending. Preschool and up
Feb 2019 - got from library to read to V. Cute pictures. Cute story. Predictable where it was going, though I feel another page spread could have brought it about a little more neatly. But adorable.
I've decided to read as much work done by this illustrator as I am able to. I really enjoy her art style. This was a cute story, quite reminiscent of Peter Rabbit!
I think Miss 4 enjoyed it more before we got a bunny as now she can point out the ways the story isn't accurate!
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
This fun book is full of rhyming. The fonts are fun and attention getting. The themes are similar to that of the classic Peter Rabbit. Be aware there are mentions of killing the rabbit to make a pie out of him, which may be unsettling to some younger audiences.
