Becoming His

Rate this book
EDITED FOR ERRORS Sophia Briar is a lone wolf. On her own since her parents died at age fourteen, Sophia isn't used to being around other shifters. In fact, the one time she did run into a pack, she met her mate - and he rebuffed her. Sophia's fended for herself all these years, and now, in Michigan, she's desperate to create a new life for herself. The only problem? It seems her mate has found her, and this time, he isn't letting her go.

Mason Black is the Alpha wolf of the Northern Territories. As an Alpha, he's accustomed to getting everything he wants - until Sophia. Walking away from his mate when she was just a teenager nearly destroyed him. Now that she's back, he'll do everything in his power to possess her. To own her. To make her his Luna.

The one thing Mason doesn't count on - Sophia is an Alpha in her own right. A unique species all her own, she's never bowed down to anyone - and doesn't intend on starting. Not when Mason left her heartbroken. Not when he doesn't quite know how to treat her as his mate, and not one of his pack. And especially not when he refuses to see the truth behind the conniving, lint-licking, wanna-be Luna, Roxanne.

Can Sophia and Mason work through their issues, or will they be the first mates on record to give up on each other?

ANYONE F*KING STAR FOR THIS S*IT!!! This book is a GARBAGE! I can not understand how women can describe guys like this as being the hero of the story !!!! I do not even have where to start to say how much I hated this liar, weak, stupid. misogynist piece of s*it, that can't be called a man! I read thinking that there would be a change, but all I saw was him treating her like trash and the fool holding on to everything and STILL FEELING GUILTY AND ASKING FOR EXCUSES !!!! There is no other word that sums up this book, just CRAP!!

A lil too much pet name usage… and lots of s3x…

A lil too much pet name usage… and lots of s3x… the storyline is decent but I definitely found myself skipping through to the end.

NOTES:
- Very much a purity culture type read (young virgin older experienced guy) - that’s not really my thing?
- 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 all the spice! And I’ll say again - I found myself skimming through it because there was so much

Is it too much to expect that the meaning of mates should mean being faithful? What’s worse is he meets his mate so knows she’s out there and he STILL sleeps with ow! As for the h....well I have no words at how her words of pain and betrayal are quickly forgotten as soon as she is near the cheating slimeball. She spent so much time slut shaming other women and being angry at the woman HER MATE cheated with but in my opinion she should have vented that anger on HIM as he was her mate and had an obligation towards her! She was too needy and pathetic when it came to the cheater with no pride and only showed a backbone when it came to the ow. In my opinion her wrath should have been more directed towards the one who deserved it more HER MATE!!

3 The Secrets We Keep Stars ⭐

If you're the kind of reader who abhors fictional characters cheating, I guess this book isn't for you. It didn't bother me since Masen and Sophia weren't together at the time, (considering she was 14 when it was revealed they were mated), it matters what happens in the present.

"Don’t run, little one. I can see you thinking about it. Don’t. I will chase you, and neither of us is ready for what will happen when I catch you."

It's 5 years before Sophia and Masen cross paths again after a disastrous first meeting. Believing she had been rejected by her mate, is devastating. Having lost her parents and spending her final teen years in foster care, Sophia has become a lone wolf. Now in a new town, joining a pack has led her straight down the path of destiny.

There's no denying that Masen is an Alpha Wolf man whore with many poor choices to answer to. He may have lost track of his Luna, but she was never far from his mind. Finding Sophia again is making him act all kinds of crazy. And obviously mating her is priority if he was capable of not fucking up at every turn.

"My wolf is making me crazy. I’m not telling you this to rush you, I would never rush you. If you need a month, six months, you can have it. It’ll be a struggle, but I want you to want me. I want you to want us."

So sad cos Becoming His could have been fantastic. Where do I start? Rejected Mates, fated Alpha's, star-crossed lovers; it's the perfect sizzling soap opera. BUT, it lacked the mega groveling required and it was cheesy in parts. Sophia could be sassy and strong, however when it came to Masen, she lost her brain cells.

Generally I appreciate sweeter undertones in my romance books, but a hero with an erratic temper and a partner constantly consoling him through temper tantrums is not appealing. It's a shame because this author either nails it or gives us this hot mess.

Upon revisiting this one yet again, I still feel cringey with how stupid Mason would have to be to fall for the OW's passive aggressive manipulations for so long after meeting Sophia for the second time. Even though justice is supposedly served in the end it wasn't enough after the piles of shit the OW leaves in her wake, THAT HE LET HER. AND HE WAS PROTECTIVE OF HER. I really think I would have been able to get past all that angsty stuff except for the last bit with his office. That just crossed a line and made Mason into the biggest chump.

But anyways, off with another star. But I still like a lot of it.
........original review (well mostly).........
I wasn't prepared to like this one so much. But I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame.
Yummy delicious angst. But the trick with successful angst is if the H is truly redeemed...
But honestly he isn't truly redeemed because he is an idiot. But I loved Sophia and how she wouldn't stand for any of his BS!

Sophia met Masen when she was 14 and he was 24. He didn't know what to do with such a young mate so he pretended he didn't know her and walked away, thinking she wouldn't have realized the significance of their relationship and that he would find her when she was older.
Not long after that, Sophie lost her parents and disappeared into foster care.

Scroll forward to Sophie being on her own and not hurting for money because she finally inherited from her parents. She's got it all set, except that she just moved to a town of wolves.

It's pretty predictable but the character interactions are nicely thought out.
The crux of the story is that Masen wasn't celibate from their first meeting. How to redeem a guy who couldn't keep it in his pants while his mate did?

Well it helps to have the characters be honest with each other and to have the author NOT gloss over the nitty gritty fallout of cheating. I liked how Masen was starkly faced with his shallow behavior for the past 5 years and had to learn from his mistakes. In fact I loved that part of the book and that was 2 of the stars for me.

What I didn't like though and stopped this one from being 5 stars, was that he remained obtuse about the nature of his old girlfriend until the bitter end. Don't get me wrong, she gets her just desserts, but he was a little too tstl now and then. (and she was a little to predictable in her machinations)
(but kinda nice that the tstl characteristics were coming from the H and not the h, lol)
What helped to save him in my eyes were a couple things that he had never shared with the OWs.

Safety is not good, obviously
Still despite the unsafe side of it, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I wish the author wrote more stuff that wasn't reverse harem!
Sheesh the whole reverse harem thing is like the bdsm thing was 5 years ago. Stupid bandwagons!

Spoilery ramble ahead

Sophia was a good character, until I realized she was always going to a bit of a doormat to her spitwad of a mate. Then I only pitied her because she has a mate bond with a turdwaffle. Seriously, he runs into his mate and walks away. Yes she was underage and I’m not saying anything sexual should have happened but, he KNOWS she’s his mate. He walks away and just leaves her. Doesn’t keep tabs on her. Assumes she’ll be there later when she’s of age (which she wasn’t). In the meantime, HE SLEEPS WITH OTHER WOMEN. For 5 years he does this. WORST. MATE. EVER. 85% in and he still hasn’t definitively cut ties with the woman he was with when he ran into his mate. Time after time Mase pulls dumb shit like that without a grovel to be had. Sophia, of course, hasn’t even kissed a guy before because she had seen her mate. I prefer a story about so called ‘fated mates’ to have more devotion from both parties.

I FINISHED! WHOOT!

Good Gawd, it took me 4 tries to finally finish this book. What's funny is that there's plenty here that's right up my alley... the stuff that didn't work for me, REALLY didn't work for me.

What worked for me:

- I thought the fact the the 26-year old MAN continued to have a normal sex life after seeing the 13-yr old CHILD, even if she was his mate, was the best part of this book. It would be weird as hell for his dick to stop working after one short glimpse of a CHILD. I really do not like unbelievable celibacy. And I appreciate the author having the lady balls to write it this way, despite the grief she probably knew she'd get.

- I love an evil OW and this book definitely has that. Again, this is a highlight of the book. Give me an OW I can hate with my whole black heart, and I will bow down at your feet. Love me some DRAMA.

What REALLY REALLY didn't work for me:

- a bunch of drama is stirred up multiple times, but it always just sort of resolves itself in a #wompwomp sort of way. The h just moves past it after a conversation with the H... and the H never really does anything about any of it. There were several times I felt like this was a swing and a miss. What's the point of stirring up drama if you're not gonna use it to really get the characters riled up? Or provide us with a really satisfying scene that provides some resolution. I like drama, but I want there to be a POINT.

- The h is put in a position where she has to physically fight the OW for the H. The jackass who rejected her and left her to fend for herself for 6 years. 🙄 She has to fight the biatch of an OW to claim her spot with the H.... 👀😳 Yeah, NO. WTF?! I was completely appalled that the H allowed this to go down. How he could stand by and watch the OW lay hands on his completely innocent and blameless mate was just the height of gross to me. 🤯 He needed to handle his sh*t, and tell that OW to f*ck off. He's the f*cking ALPHA. DO SOMETHING, you worthless piece of sh*t. 👀

- For me, the whole freaking point of OW drama, is so I can pop some popcorn and watch the H smack that witch down. It's my VERY FAVORITE PART of a book. 🖤 It's so satisfying to watch him put his past in it's place. This H NEVER does that. 😐 He's always trying to "spare her feelings" or whatever. 😑 He even keeps his f*ck pad at his office, where the OW works. 😒 No really. 😒 She doesn't work in his regular office like everyone else, she works IN his actual f*ck pad, separate from all his other employees. Where they used to f*ck each other, before the h arrived on the scene. 💀When he goes to break it off with her and move her to another position in his company, she comes strutting out in whore-wear, in front of the h. She says some super suggestive stuff, that makes the h highly upset, but he never tells the OW where she shove that nonsense. 😵‍💫 I was annoyed that he thought it was cool to keep the OW employed in his private f*ck pad, even after he was very much with the h. 😑 I was annoyed that he agreed to meet with the OW in that private f*ck pad to have the conversation about her transferring. 😐 I was annoyed that he wasn't just going to fire her, she more than deserved it. 🙄 I was annoyed that he thought it appropriate to bring the h to the f*ck pad, without any sort of warning or explanation of what she was about to walk in on. I mean, he hadn't *intended* to bring the h with him initially, so essentially he had agreed to meet the OW alone in his f*ck pad, where they used to f*ck, instead of his less personal office, knowing that she'd likely make a play for him. 👀 Yeah, that's pretty effing annoying. 😒 And then he does nothing to intervene and put the OW in her place despite watching her devastate the h. ANNOYED. 🤬

- Our H, who talks a BIG game, but is actually just a passive pussy, NEVER has to really confront the OW at all. He receives a get-out-jail-free card when she tries to kill his h... of course this only happens because he REFUSED to see that she was an evil bitch who was a danger to his h... see above points. He had all the warning signs. This was so amazingly stupid. So, instead of us getting a really satisfying brutal confrontation between him and the OW, she is just taken off his plate without him ever having to do anything difficult or uncomfortable. Sooooo ANNOYED. 🙄

- at the end of the day, this H was just not alpha enough for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ He told us he was alpha, but I never saw any evidence of it. He was a lot of talk, but very little actual follow-through... particularly with the h. Every time he was remotely rough or aggressive with her, he moped around feeling guilty and apologizing like a wimpy beta male. Not my flavor.

Bottom Line? I have a lot of feelings about this book. And I think that says something, right? I want to rate it lower, but I'm going with 3-stars, because I really appreciate including some unpopular plot points, to make a more believable book.

⚠️FOR THE SAFETY SQUAD⚠️

- It really depends on your definition of "cheating" on whether or not you think he cheated. I do not consider this cheating because he is only with the h after the h comes back into his life at legal age.
- loads and loads of OW drama
- no sharing
- no dubcon

----------------------------------------------
05/26/2021 DNF - I actually really enjoyed the OW drama in this. It was kinda my favorite part. 🤷🏼‍♀️ He sleeps with someone after seeing his mate, but his mate was 13 at the time (he’s in his 20s), and they hadn’t even spoken to each other. It would have been *ridiculous* for him to stay celibate for 6 years. The h stays celibate BECAUSE SHE’S A CHILD. This situation added some decent angst and drama, which kept me reading to 50%. So that part wasn’t an issue for me. No. My problem is that the reason I’m reading, the romance, is already resolved at 50%. They’ve done the deed. They’ve said their “I love you’s”. They work out any jealousy about the OW by talking it out. 🙄😩 (boring) So... I’m bored and not really interested in the mystery/danger aspect. This is the 2nd book I’ve tried by this author. Both DNFs. I think she’s just not my flavor. 😕

Re-read via audiobook... it's not great :)

*****Original Review****
3.5
I found this book entertaining for the most part. (In a ridiculous trainwrecky sort of way) Mostly because of the constant bumbling screw ups of the H, and the OTT evil OW. I get bored easy, so I like conflict; I also like a meddling OW to stir shit up.

This isn’t your typical alpha finding his mate book; it’s not really romantic. My rating is based completely on how entertained I was, not on the swoon worthiness of Mason. If he were my mate, I would have throat punched him, but if he were perfect…I would have found him boring...to each their own I suppose.

Bottom Line- I really didn't know what to expect with this book, but I was entertained... but the characters are immature at times and will require some tolerance to get through it. The book is told in dual POV's of Mason and Sophia (wolf shifter mates) Their story is not easy, and heartbreaking/frustrating at times. The crazy ex provides plenty of drama, but Sophia rolled over too quickly for me. Mason is an idiot.

The H is weak, he’s really not an alpha, although the author keeps saying he is. He wasn’t.
He also loved this OW, but he said he stopped loving her when he saw his mate, but he continued to fuck her for 5 years. He says it was out of habit, yea whatever.🙄

The h was a doormat. He ditched her, his mate, and walked off with this ow. When she saw him again 5 yrs later, hes still with that ow at his home, the one he said he built for his mate, but all is forgiven after a 5min convo.. she’s also hateful towards his ow, but not towards him. Whatever.

The author also seems to love body shaming skinny/fit girls.

Since I disliked both MC I DNF 25%.

Free on KU at least.

I thought this was an okay story and I liked the rejected-mates storyline. That's actually what I was looking for and how I found this book. But the writing style was hard to get into to and I struggled because of that. The characters were also a little all over the place which made it hard to connect with them and see them as a true couple. There was a big part of this book where if felt like Sophia and Masen were doing nothing but getting into fights, barely making up, and then fighting about something else again. Usually about Masen's over-protectiveness. It just got boring after awhile.

If you read this book and want to give it a good review, I suggest you get some counseling about self-esteem and self-respect, because this book models terrible behavior.

This author doesn't seem to understand that romance does not involve cheating for years and lying even after you are caught. I have to wonder where she got the idea that this was acceptable behavior -- hopefully not from real life, because nobody deserves this.

If i have to read the nickname "little one" one more time I'm gonna puke.

Weak heroine, cheating asshole that puts the weak heroine at risk, because he won't get rid of his constant evil lay. The heroine went through hell thanks to him and his other woman and yet he never grovelled.

Idk why i finished this book, Masen was the worst kind of cheating asshole. I mean, he literally has a fuckpad at work where he takes all the women he sleeps with. His main fuck buddy is his assistant, the evil woman of the story, and she basically decorated the fuckpad. What i hated the most is that he never believes she could be evil and constantly disregards the heroine's feelings about her. Literally, his entire pack thinks she's an evil bitch except for him.

The heroine was such a weak bitch.

Why the heck did i finish this? I blame kindle unlimited for this disastrous read. 🤦

Lord knows I tried with this one...but Hero is just a douche...
I couldn’t even finish it, sorry to say...
If mates are God’s gift, why would you not claim yours and leave her to suffer alone for years? And you continue to fck around? With your secretary?

heroine should just have ended up with the Hero’s brother, at least HE knew what a treasure she was upon meeting her

The story was ok BUT everything else was not. The heroine was supposed to be so strong after everything she went through but she behaved quite the opposite. And when the hero just explains what happened she just accepts it? And when he keeps misbehaving the minute he explains she keeps just accepting? I was more frustrated with him than her.

Style: Paranormal Shifter Romance
Story: 3/5
Enjoyment: 3/5
Dark Level: 0/5
Sexual Level: SEX-CITINGLY GOOD

Violence: Yes
Male: Super Alpha
Series: N/A
Pages: 406

Kindle Unlimited: Yes

STORY:
I find my self liking this story but roll my eyes a few times. It wasn’t bad but somethings annoyed me. Sophie is a special shifter unbeknownst to her. She found her mate at 14 which is very rare. Because she was too young, her mate and Alpha needed to walk away. This in turn makes Sophie believes he rejected her. Now 19, Sophie found him again. Masen, Alpha is 10 years older and definitely causes you whip lash with his mood change. Most of the book was getting to know his mate with a mine mine mine and embarrassing sex moments of getting caught.

Again, it’s not bad, as I found myself wanting to finish, but it does feel like the same scene different environment. The scene with Sophie fighting was so random, it didn’t fit her character although I know she is a shifter wolf and with who wasn’t even worth it.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
A lot of sex, a lot. Not mad about that.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Roxy, she use to be Masen’s girlfriend so with that being said, she was annoying! I just felt frustrated and annoyed. Was she needed, yes, because she causes chaos but it was just too much and annoying and I did not like the back and forth Masen did with her. History ok but you find your mate get rid of the female dog.

The other secondary character - All of Masen’s hussies he slept with. Unbelievable the women that comes out the wood work like he has a magic stick. But guess when you’re Alpha it rains hussies.

OVERALL
Not bad, I found it likable in some parts and annoying in others. But it still caught my attention to the end.

✰✰TRIGGERS: none

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

I had many problems with this book, most of which, concern the hero, Masen Black. Masen is a thirty year old that acts like an immature teenager. After finding his mate, he doesn't stay celibate (unfortunately that seems to be an on-going theme in a lot of these fated-mates shifter romances). This obviously becomes a big problem as the story progresses. I'm 100% over the man-whore trope, can someone please show me something more original? Unfortunately, Masen's (half-assed) groveling didn't really make up for any of his short-comings either.

The heroine, Sophia Briar was pretty badass. She's petite, curvy and hella confident. I liked her spunk and the fact that she could stand up for herself. She's naïve to the world of shifters but adapts pretty fast. Unfortunately, she acts more mature than Masen does (half the time...). Most of the story revolves arounds her relationship with Masen- fighting and making up, fighting and making up, rinse and repeat. There wasn't much development regarding her powers as a white wolf, so that was pretty underwhelming.

What made me really annoyed, was how predictable the conflict was. And don't get me started... how does an Alpha such as Masen Black not see the impending threat right before his eyes?

I think this book had a lot of potential, it was just lacking in its execution. Its use of overdone tropes, lack of meaningful characterization and a mediocre hero was ultimately the books downfall.

Not for me

This story just isn’t any good. Not only is there a lot of stilted dialogue etc, the plot makes no sense and is full of holes. I have up after 20% because it was that hard to just get through a page. The entire plot is that this alpha met her when she was too young and was confused that he recognized her before her first shift. He was with his girlfriend who he was in love with. He walked away at first but followed her to find out more about her abs her family. His plan was supposedly to watch over her until she was old enough then come back for her. Here is where the plot just make no sense. It’s revealed that he broke up with the girlfriend immediately because he knew his mate was out there and once you are mated you don’t want other women. Only he kept sleeping with the girlfriend and many other women the entire last 5 years. Supposedly again (because none of this is cohesive or makes any kind of a followable plot) he want back for her 2 years ago to claim her, abs has been searching everywhere for her because she had disappeared. He was supposedly 100% ready to claim her the second he finds her, and is constantly looking for her but never stops sleeping with the ex or other women. He slept with the ex at the start of this story which is two days before he meets his mate again in the present. The he first thing he does is jump on claiming her, apologizing to her promising that he is done with other women, but it’s so insincere. He knew this day was coming. He knew she was out there somewhere. He knew she was old enough to claim. So why was he sleeping with someone else two days before? If it was while she was younger, whatever I guess, but what was she he excuse after he knew she was old enough and he was again, supposedly, looking to bring her home? He knows that he wasn’t right. My problem is that he actively knew it as he was doing it and just didn’t care. Then throws out an “oops, my bad” type of apology as if this day hadn’t been years in the making. Like I said the entire plot line is dumb and makes no sense. This is another author who uses the male being a manwhore and other woman drama to fill in plot holes instead of just working a little harder ie being creative. Not the first time that I’ve seen an author do this by any means, but usually the writing is good enough at least to enjoy parts of the story. Usually I can at least finish a book. Not this time. There just isn’t ANYTHING to make this a worthwhile read. I don’t like the way that she writes, and I doubt I’ll try this author again.

The MCs met 5 years earlier when the heroine was 14 and the hero was much older. The heroine knew that the hero was her mate, but he ignored her and went off with his girlfriend, Roxanne. 5 years later, the heroine and the hero meet again. The hero at this point tries to prove to the heroine that he made a mistake. During the 5 year separation he was with OW and his "girlfriend" Roxanne. This did not bother me as much as the hero's wishy washy behavior at time.

This was an okay read. Yes, Mase apologized for his behavior when they first met and there was some groveling, but the hero still kept making excuses for his ex-girlfriend, Roxanne's, bad behavior. The hero also did not "feel" when the heroine was upset. Other people in the pack had to tell Mase that the heroine was upset or sad. I don't know. Mase was supposed to be this big Alpha and he was to his pack, but I felt that he never really made the heroine his number one priority. The heroine suffered enough when her parents died and she was tossed from one foster home to another. The hero just acted like a douche.

Jealous/Possessive Hero ✅
Drama ✅
OW Fight Scene ✅
Strong, Smart Heroine ✅
Smutty Good Time ✅

Because of the drama and jealous/possessive behavior, I really enjoyed this. I love a Hero that’ll get crazy for his heroine, with lots of drama to keep those pages flipping! I loved the extra magical bump this had; not just a normal shifter female, Sophia has little advantages that makes me wish she had a second book. Especially with her and Masen’s powers intensifying after their mating ceremony! I wonder what their future, and their children, will bring.

I’ve been on a bit of a shifters kick lately, and this book is just what I was in the mood for! It features all my favourite tropes. The heroine is tough, but not too tough. She met her mate when she was just a teenager, and he walked away (she was too young!) and she’s never been the same since. Shortly afterward, her parents died, and she grew up in the foster care system, which was very difficult for a young shifter. She doesn’t know much about the shifter world, so when she moves to a new town to go to college, she’s shocked when she meets the local pack–the alpha of which is the mate who rejected her years ago.
I love books where the heroine is “special”, but doesn’t know it. She’s a unique type of wolf, (not quite a spoiler since it’s on the back of the book!) but she has no idea that she’s different because she doesn’t know what shifters are really like, because she grew up isolated from them.
I really love Albany Walker’s writing style and the way she portrays her heroines and heroes, even the heroes who make awful mistakes, like this one did. I can’t wait to read more of her books!

This is not good. So many errors in the text that the reading spell gets removed from you all the damn time, zipping you back into reality with a thud. Commas are thrown in where they shouldn’t be and missing from key sentences. Even if we set aside the fact that there are spelling and grammar mistakes littered throughout this book - although my favourite was ‘I didn’t have any numbers mesmerised’ and calling rogues ‘rouges’ hahahahhahaha - the author seems to tick through everything expected in a shifter book without giving any substance to her characters. I didn’t like the h. She was pretty annoying. Going from virginal to being proficient at dirty talk within 24 hours gave me whiplash. There were a lot of arguments about the same thing over an over - they both got over them pretty quickly - only to start another round again. There are some amazing shifter books out there and in a sea of fantastic PNR writing where the competition is high there are just better books I could be spending my time reading. I think this author needs an excellent editor and proof reader to help her on her journey. But in the meantime if you want a bit of easy to read smut and text errors don’t affect your enjoyment then you’re in for a treat with this one - it just wasn’t for me.

During my recovery from the blasted COVID, I was looking for an Easy Button. A Comfort Object. Something cozy and familiar. I thought a old fave from the rejected mate tag might do the trick. But I was more irritated and annoyed than comforted throughout this audiobook! I deducted a star for that reason. But I didn’t take the star away on GR because this book isn’t meant for me. Here are more examples of how I came to that conclusion.

There’s a ton of sex. Like, too much sex. And that makes me realize I am definitely not in this book’s target audience anymore. Season of life and all that.

Stupid misunderstandings or miscommunication. That’s just a part of life when we’re younger. We get better at communicating by working at it and maturing simultaneously. This couple is not really good at it. They are young (H mid-late 20’s and h 19) and it showed. I didn’t have a lot of patience for that this time around.

H loved the female attention he received and frequently didn’t think about how it would impact his mate. That was a bummer, but again, behavior that can be attributed to males whose frontal lobes haven’t fully developed yet.

I think I was much more tolerant of H’s being swayed by OW even a few years ago. Roxanne was pulling Mason’s strings throughout this book and he didn’t see it, even when his fated mate Sophia pointed it out again and again. Of course, he had been smexing Roxy for over 5 years, despite having met his (then waaaaay underaged) mate face to face. He justified these actions with the jailbait excuse. Roxy was still employed as his personal assistant [side note: do those even exist outside of HPlandia? And more importantly, do they wear clothing fashioned to look like lingerie all of the time? Asking for a friend. 🤷🏼‍♀️]. These were additional factors I was not able to gloss over this time!

So, if you love NA rejected mate stories with tons of sex, a handsome but dim-witted young alpha, an HP-worthy evil OW, a saint-like h who is also an alpha and very powerful but mostly all of that is unexplored and you are ok with the resulting plot hole, then this is for you!

At first, I knew the book tells a romantic story, I knew what I was getting into when I started reading. Two mates meet, feeling rejected for the wrong reasons and in the end mend everything and live happily ever after. After some time I noticed that some action was coming up, suddenly someone else wants her, he takes actions to get to her, it drew me in further than before and towards the end, I was so engrossed with the book I finished it so fast I haven't even noticed.
personally, I liked the book very much although some things bugged me.
Sophia forgave Masen way too quickly for whatever he did, it was like he could sleep with hundreds of women and she'll just say "It's okay baby, it's not your fault I am just a little sad that's all". I understand they have this special connection so she can ignore his mistakes better but as the reader, I expect some fight from her, she is a strong person which I very much liked in her so I expected some strong comebacks.
Roxanne was a good antagonist in my opinion, she was a bit crazy and very calculating. She was mostly predictable but still managed to draw me. Although I knew Roxanne is the antagonist I was sure there is another antagonist in the story, one who works behind the scenes but in the end, I was surprised to find out he gave up (I don't know if it's a good surprise or a bad one).
Overall the book was good and I enjoyed reading it and I think I'll love to read another book by the author.
