The phases of the moon and the position of the stars have a powerful effect on our everyday lives. Astrologer Yasmin Boland is an expert on the moon’s influence on our lives and knows the tricks of working with its phases to yield positive results. Following the popularity of her book Moonology, she has created this oracle deck to bring more answers and guidance for those who feel a connection or are drawn to working with the moon’s natural magic.
The cards in the deck provide answers to the user’s questions about their life as well as offering teachings on moon phases and moon positions. The cards will be named after a moon phase (full moon, new moon, quarter moon, crescent moon, super moon), or moon positions in the starsigns or houses. Each card will show how the energy of this moon position relates to an area of life, including life goals, communication, relationships, new beginnings, health, love, work, dreams, healing, success, family, home, money, travel, and friends. The cards will also offer guidance on action to take or things to reflect on. With magical and mystical illustrations, this deck is a beautiful and wise companion for those wishing to harness the moon’s power!
The cards are beautiful and I enjoy using them. The book that comes with it is nice. It’s an actual mini book unlike the usual ones that comes with some tarot decks.
Well…I have to take this review in two parts…the deck and the book.
The Deck: The deck is romantic to the point of magical. The dark colors, the landscapes, the moon in its different signs, phases, and aspects…if you use the appropriate incense to smoke the cards with first (I suggest a good Moon incense every six months to a year, preferably at night), you could really enjoy shuffling and working with them. It’s like stepping out of the plain world and into the world of wonder. It’s really cool. The only complaint I have with these cards is they have the possible one-phrase explanation printed on each card. It seems to limit any other interpretation that a given card could mean. It’s a little tough to ignore for the sake of flexibility. The name of the card was good enough. I actually thought of using a marker or some white-out to “erase” the pseudo-predetermined meaning. On the other hand, I hate to ruin the look of the cards. When you first get this deck, it’s kind of tough to shuffle because the cards are printed on durable stock. You have to work with them a while to break them in. But at least you know they’ll last for a while. This deck is good for one-card readings every night or early in the morning while it’s still dark, which would be my preference in using them. I’d rather keep this intended atmosphere for the purpose of card-of-the-day readings. After all, these are Moon cards. You gotta be conscious of appropriate situations. 🙂 Nevertheless, I can’t really see using these cards for actual layouts.
The Book: The book that comes with the deck…I didn’t like so much. It’s as if the author crammed too many confusing and conflicting possible meanings onto the two pages dedicated to each card. It’s only when you get to the final three-quarters of interpretation that it actually makes more sense. I spent over a year working with this deck before I decided to write this review, and I could easily consider throwing out a good chunk of the book so it doesn’t have as many pages. But it would be easier to deal with.
Overall, I’m not sure if I should give this deck two-and-a-half or three stars, because rating it this way covers a lot of territory. The deck deserves five stars, but the book deserves maybe one or two. Plus this seems to be more of a New Age oracle deck, and I don’t personally care for weird unrealistic New Age optimisms. But the deck is simply amazing anyway. It goes to show just how complex this is.
Caveat: There seems to be a stand-alone book that was written before these cards were published. I have the book, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. Maybe it will give me a better insight on what I’m working with, so I won’t feel so uncomfortable with the interpretations for what is clearly an awesome deck.
The first thing I learned when listening to this book is that a lot of people will have some issues with it that I know. I honestly don't care! The author took everything from what she has experienced in her life and she uses a few names for some stuff that others I know would disagree with. With that being said what we learn here is it doesn't matter what you call it it works! We also learn how to use all the phases of the moon to our advantage. We see all the different times that we should be doing our work regardless of whether it's drawing something in or helping something to leave. Along the way we are reminded again the power of meditation along with visualization. The author speaks of these two areas at length and I'm grateful they're in this book! This is not a book you can go through once or twice you will probably need to read it more than that. I remember the hay house class by the saucer and that class was extremely in-depth. That was the astrology class and I can imagine that her book for astrology is just as in-depth. When you read this book please understand you may need to read it more than once because there is information layered upon information. Each time you read it you will learn something new.
Love, love this author and these cards are amazing. The artwork is beautiful and the messages are spot on. I connect really well with this deck, and the concept of moonology itself.
I've used these cards for about a year now, and the card stock is nice matte, which is still in great condition despite very regular use.
This is a great deck because it is also teaching you how to connect with the moon easier, aswell as connecting you to the divine. Thoroughly recommend this beautiful deck.
Let me tell you immediately. If you do readings for others, this is a frequently requested deck. The artwork is pretty with a dull finish, nice cardstock. The guide book is informative. Each card meaning is given on two pages. The style is very laid back and easy to understand. Yet, I find the way the meanings are written and formatted, I personally find it hard to read aloud.
a great beginner set of oracle cards if you are just starting out. very detailed guidebook with card spreads. there is also an companion book and several resources online which is why i think this is a great deck for someone who wants to begin their oracle card journey.
i personally prefer indie decks and don’t feel very connected to my moonology deck.
I've been using this deck for a few months now. Cards shuffle well, have a lovely size and finish. The guidebook is useful and contains easy to understand references. When I want to do an astrology based reading, or include an astrology card in another reading this is a good deck to use. Artwork is clear and relatable.
Such a beautiful oracle. Love that beautiful art. Cards are very nice to work with. Meanings are easy to understand and a guide book helps a lot as well. I really needed these and tried to order from different sites and now that I finally got these cards I'm so happy. Even my first answers were right. I'm gonna definitely main this oracle deck because it's the one that helps me the best :)
As someone who is devoted to Selene, this is a perfect oracle deck for me! I love following the cycles of the moon and these also are great to be used for spell workings, placed on my altar, etc. Can't say enough good things about this deck. Love it!
Quick impressions: I liked the deck overall. It works well for single draws for meditation or to get a message. If you work with the Moon consistently, say you do work during specific phases, this deck may be helpful.
Absolutely in love with this deck! The card design is breathtaking. The book is very informative, easy to understand and beginner's friendly. Beautiful cards and amazing guidebook.
I absolutely love these cards...a fun and different break from the tarot, I am having a ball with these...Also, they are lovely to hold and quite beautiful, as well.
Love my Moonology deck. I use them for everything from setting intentions to displaying the current phase on my mini altar. These keep me connected to lunar phases and magick.
