"What would make YOU take a life? I've been to the end, to the depths of despair, and yet, here I am. Are you ready to hear my story?" - Tom Greer Ex-Navy SEAL turned airline pilot, Tom Greer, lives two lives. Cordial airline pilot one day and ruthless killer the next. But why does he kill? What started it all? And more importantly, what is the hidden pain that drives him to the next kill? Read the exciting new series by USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR C. G. Cooper, the book his long-time readers are calling his best work to date.
C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.
One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.
Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.
His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.
Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.
Page turning thriller about an airline pilot on a mission to surreptitiously execute a series of bad guys. Tom Greer, Jr. is a former Navy Seal who teams up with Avery, a charismatic young computer expert to research his targeted victims. Together, everything goes according to plan until Baxter, an enigmatic FBI agent approaches Tom with an unusual request. Events quickly explode accordingly.
This one is told in the first person, almost like sitting in a room and listening to the protagonist, Tom Greer, tell the story. I don't think I've ever read a novel where the assassin was an airline pilot, free to travel the world to carry out his killings. Different, for sure.
Relatively short read at about 250 pages. And Cooper has been writing action thrillers long enough to know how to leave out a lot of the non essential prose. There is some, but not enough to turn this into a 'page skipper'.
What a great ride! Enjoyed the pace, loved the intensity.
Sharp clear writing, crisp dialogue, intense action scenes. I want to read more,! A clear, fixed starting point on a strong series. Strong writing, engaging characters, well done!
Fast paced good guy versus bad. With the good guy winning very clear cut. Nothing to add that other reviews haven't already posted. The story ends with a cliff hanger and I will read the next in the series.
Mr. Cooper continues to amaze readers and keep them guessing until the final curtain. In A Life Worth Taking, the main character, Tom Greer, is a retired Navy Seal, Commercial airline pilot, and cold blooded assassin. In between flights, the good captain, manages to kill somebody with the help of a computer whiz. As the story continues, questions floating around in the mind of readers get answered...who, why, when and then a new puzzle developed with a new set of questions.
On a few occasions, Mr. Greer appears to have met his match and finds himself in an impossible situation and within seconds of meeting the Creator. The story lags a little in the beginning and once questions are answered, it's hold on tight as the ride doesn't stop until the end. In fact, the ending is one that I would have never guessed...and opens the door for the next installment and possible group action instead of a single "pair" trying to make it all right.
Highly recommended! Mr. Cooper, time to get busy and get the new adventure out to market. If this is not his best book, it's in the top five.
4.5 stars. A Life Worth Taking is the first book in the Tom Greer Thrillers series. This can be read as a standalone but it does end in a cliffhanger. There is violence. This story involves human trafficking so may not be suitable for everyone.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This is a well written thriller that could be taken from today's headlines. There are clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what will be revealed next. It definitely kept me reading. Overall it is an interesting storyline and worth taking the time to read. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Tom Greer is a former Navy SEAL, now a commercial pilot. But after a tragedy occurs to his family, and now he is now on a mission as a killer. The first questions are: is he a serial killer - or does something else drive him? And, of course, the title: is there “A Life Worth Taking?”
The one different thing about this book occurs early on: he speaks directly from the book to moi, the reader. This is a first for me and more likely than not, a first for others. It’s an amazing revelation that keeps the reader entranced and makes it difficult to put the book down.
Now as a teaser, there is a shocking ending. Corps Justice fans will be thrilled with one big surprise!
Once you read this book and you are already not familiar with Cooper’s other books and series, then step aboard. You will want to travel on this ship and meet a wonderful variety of other passengers. You won’t regret it!

I have never enjoyed giving a novel five stars as much as I did this one. I truly could not put this book down. Cooper has outdone himself. I didn't think it possible but he did. This novel was full of action, emotion, and I mean the gut wrenching kind of emotion that brings tears to your eyes, not because you feel sorry for the character but because you actually feel his pain. We also have a mystery character and some not so mystery characters that show up. To sum up, the main character had to lose everything to gain it all back, even if it was a little different. I highly recommend this book.
I am a HUGE C.G.COOPER FAN. It has been very hard to wait for a new book in his old style of writing. I have read ALL of his books 📚 many times including all of the DANIEL BRIGGS stories. This book is everything I love about this fantastic author.I recommend it so much I wish I could give it 10 STARS. I am really excited for more .COM GREER THRILLERS , CORP OF JUSTICE ADVENTURES AND OF COURSE DANIEL STORIES. I BELIEVE IF SOMETHING AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU KNOW MR.COOPER DON'T CHANGE A THING. CAROL VANATTA
C.G. Cooper relates another great story of a man after his time in the military. The tale follows an ex Navy Seal down a dark road and emerges at the end with a satisfying conclusion. Personally I find CG Cooper very adept at working some aspect of the unsavoury reality of what does go on in the world today into his books and this one is no exception. In addition, I found no copyediting errors which for me makes a book that extra bit more enjoyable.
I so wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. I love reading CG Cooper's books and this is the best one so far. It is told in first person and there are times the character will even have a conversation with you, the reader. Tom Greer is a former Navy SEAL who is now a commercial pilot who happens to kill people in his spare time. Why does he kill? Is he a good guy or bad guy? How does he know who to trust? Does he even trust anyone? To answer these questions and more you will have to read the book. This book is fast paced, full of action, twists and turns, and is hard to put down.
A CGC. Mystery Thriller (TGTB. - 1)/An Airline Pilot With a Side Trade/Assassin
CGC. has. penned a mystery novel about a professional airline pilot who has a side trade as an assassin. The Captain is real layer back and an extremely competent pilot and no one has a clue what his side work involves. He flies from city to city with frequent stops overnight and he usually goes to work on his side job soon after landing and then the next morning is in the air for another destination. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
My goodness what an incredibly mysterious and intriguing story. It kept me hooked from page one. There was enough mystery to puzzle me about the why's and wherefores of the main character. I was guessing with each chapter and just wanted more and more! I was almost breathless with anticipation as I read on and on.
This book is without a doubt One of the best I have ever read and certainly one I enjoyed reading and I highly recommend it.
I rarely give a book five stars. C. G. Cooper is one of my favorite authors, and this book is a great showcase for his talent and skill. I love Mr. Cooper's series and was delighted to purchase this new book. It met (actually exceeded) all my expectations. I can say without reservation that I highly recommend it. Don't miss reading this book. From the first word to the last it is without equal in this genre. Enjoy.
What. A. Ride. 'A Life Worth Taking' completely blew me away. I have read almost all of C.G. Cooper's work and love his writing style. This book did not disappoint. So much action, depth, suspense, thrilling scenarios and great characters. Tom is a great lead. I love his humor. He's determined and has a mission. Avery is a great ally to have. She definitely earned her spot in this partnership of sorts. I can not wait for more. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
Are you kidding me?! They're alive?!!! C. G. Cooper, I have read ALL of the Patriot Series with Calvin Stokes, Briggs' stories and seriously I didn't think you could too any of them but this book just keeps the drama and energy going. I kinda cussed really bad on that last line of this book. I don't know if I can make myself go to sleep now or not because I know that next book is already available! Ugh!
I've read every book CG has written and they are all captivating. He's created a mesmerizing character in this face paced novel and switched to writing in the 1st person. The main character is talking to the reader and you start thinking along with him at every twist and turn he takes. If you haven't read all of CG 's books in order you are really missing out on a masterful spider web of character crossovers and subplots.
I'm not much for writing reviews but I really did like this book very much. It kept me on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen. The depravity of what one human can do to another is mind boggling. I look forward to the next book in the series. I enjoy reading about all the characters in Cal Stokes company.
Mr Cooper really pissed me off with. A Life Worth Taking.! I liked Tom Gr eer and felt compassion and sympathy. I traveled with him as he exacted his revenge! I endured the torture and the miracle of his father's rescue. BUT I was really pissed when, at the mention of his children, I was left hanging. Not cathartic, Mr Cooper!
The brilliance of Mr. Cooper's newest novel is a testament to his character development and writing expertise. The conclusion of the book was totally unexpected. I have all of Mr Cooper 's books. I recommend that you do the same. There are a few books that I have read more than once. Liberty Down is one of these books. Purchase immediately.
Mr. Cooper you have written a class A book. I have read all your books on Core Justice and now I really like Tom as well. Nice to see the Stokes group are coming along to help. I have also read all the books on Daniel. You have a great team to write about. Keep up the great work.
C. G. Cooper didn't disappoint. This is by far his best book to date. Intelligent, well-thought out plot evolves into heart-stopping action. Don't read this book before bedtime - you won't sleep! When we think of Navy SEALS we think "supermen". Greer endures torture, heartbreak and then seeks revenge. You are going to love this novel!
I love spy thrillers and this book came up as an option in my kindle search. The book from start to finish was action packed and never got slow or boring. What was an even better surprise is at the end the author introduces characters from the Cal Stokes series.
I love the way this book is written. I was a bit hesitant to read it, because of the description, but I love Cooper's Corps Justice series!! So I gave it a try. I was hooked by the writing and the story. I did have to skip the torture parts, but that was just a few pages. Great characters and suspense!!
I love Mr. Cooper’s books! Corps Justice Series, Daniel Briggs Series & now Tom Greer! They grab my attention at the first page & hold me captive to the end. My problem is, Mr. Cooper can’t write fast enough!!! I guess it’s really OK, I just start at book 1 and re-read!
Story really does not take off till the middle of the book. Lot's of inane chatter from the protagonist. An incredibly stupid villain who tortures the protagonist to the point of death and then stages his escape, so that the protagonist can come back and neatly kill the villain
Another exciting book with such a surprise ending. C.G. Cooper at his best. This is a must read in this time of discouraging news and shifting politics. It's uplifting to read about fictional heroes who still value honor, country, loyalty. As my father would say, "Simper Fi."
