🥃WHISKEY & YOU 🥃 Is a full length Contemporary Romance/Dark read by H.J. Bellus. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’ In this we meet Jack and Navy
PAST: Jack Jarvis York knows more than anyone else what it was like to be raised dirt poor, moving from run down hotel to hotel his mother barely having two pennies to rub together he knew what it was like to go to bed on an empty stomach. It’s not until a kindly man takes pity on Jack in a supermarket that things started to look up for him and his mother and it was due to this one man’s influence that Jack is where he is today.
NOW: JJ is well known as ‘The King of Texus’ a ruthless man who will ruin anyone who crosses him so when he finds out a man named Jordan is stealing large quantities of water off his land to run his oil drills he was going to let it go for a few more months to let him hang himself even more until he could garner evidence, but out one night whilst drowning his sorrows he saw first hand how mistreated his wife was by seeing the bruises maring her wrists.
JJ demands he cough up the one hundred grand or he’ll call the cops Jordan flat out claims he doesn’t have that kind of money on him and needs more time to come up with it but then he offers up his wife as payment for a month with promises that he’ll get him his money.
Reading Navy’s story whilst under JJ’s roof will rip your heart to shreds, it’s not an easy story to read, but it’s her story, and it’s a story that needs to be told.
But what Jordan doesn’t know is when that month is up JJ’s not giving her back. But Navy knows it’s not that simple, Jordan will get her back even if it’s in a body bag.
Jordan has owned yes owned Navy for years, he took her when she was a teenager taking her away from the only life she knew, a life she will never see again.
It takes a lot of convincing for Navy to realise that JJ isn’t going to hurt her, with patience and care we slowly see a broken female slowly come into her own.

I swear every book I read by this author is better than the last. This book broke my heart! It was reminiscent of the old tv show Dallas and I was a huge fan. JJ had a sad upbringing but a stepfather came into his life and showed him how to be a man. And he turned out to be one hell of a man!!! Navy was living a horrific life, the stuff that nightmares are made of but JJ came into her life and helped her become strong and feel loved. Then you have little Belle her interactions with everyone in this unconventional family warmed my heart, brought me to tears and at times took my breath away. I knew this book was going to be good. What I didn't know was it was going to be amazing and put me through an emotional wringer! I believe I have a new favorite HJ Bellus book! * and the cover HOT! Yep the perfect JJ!!
Just like the first sip of whiskey there is that familiar burn that you crave and brings you to life, then it turns to heat that warms you from the top of your head to the tip of your toes as it flows through your body, this is how this story made me feel. Whiskey and You is slightly different from what we have seen from HJ Bellus but believe me this book shows us just how talented this author is. Theirs is not a conventional love story so don't think hearts and flowers think pain and despair. JJ is known as the King of Texas and this man will make you want to be his queen. As what was payment of a debt starts to become so much more you will take the hard ride with these characters as they crack your heart open and expose you to the rawness of this story. It will not only be the main characters you fall in love with but the secondary ones will hold your heart just as tight, from his best friend Kemp to the mother figure in his life Faye that makes you want to have her hold you in her arms and have her tell you everything will be okay. Whiskey and You held me hostage from the first page and when the time came I really didn't want to be rescued from its hold. An absolutely brilliant book that will leave you craving more of The Kings of Texas series.
This book emotionally broke me!! I was captivated from the beginning. HJ Bellus has wrote a story that put me on a emotional roller coaster. My heart broke, my soul ached but the sun found moments of joy and laughter. It was amazing. I couldn’t put it down. Navy’s story took me for a heart wrenching ride. Hearing what she went through. Ugh.. Going from a beaten and broken spirt to the girl who lives was amazing. JJ had his own battered life he went through. Helping Navy comes second nature for him. Just when you think ok she’s got this story , HJ Bellus throws more at you. Its just amazing. I so cannot wait for Kemp’s story now. Enjoy!
I wasn’t quite sure what I had been expecting from Whiskey & You, but whatever ideas I had in my mind were nothing close to the story H.J. Bellus delivered.
I will be completely honest, I was a little bit unsure about this one during the first couple of chapters. I wasn’t crazy about our male lead, and I was waiting for the good stuff to kick in. A handful of chapters in, however, things picked up and refused to let up. Before I knew what was happening, I was addicted to this one, turning pages at a rapid pace, quickly finishing as I absorbed all the details.
This one surprised me, in so many ways.
Whiskey & You turned out to be a much heavier read than I had anticipated. I went in expecting this to be a quick and light read, only for it to wrap around my heart as it squeezed tight. There was so much throughout this one, so many things that will leave you sucked into the story. It’s not one for the faint of heart, not with the topics involved, but those willing to deal with the depth of emotion will be blessed with an amazing read.
It’s more than just a romance, it’s a story of survival. You find yourself rooting for the characters, desperate for their happy ending, for the necessary vengeance to be handed out. As the story unfolds, as more details come to light, you’re sucked in ever deeper. Each new piece of information that appears will chip away at your defences, leaving your raw and exposed.
Honestly, this one shocked me in the best way. I enjoyed this one in a completely different way than I’d expected, and so much more than I’d anticipated. I’ll certainly be picking up more H.J. Bellus in the future.
I have no words. This book destroyed me. I truly don't remember crying so much over a book and then smiling. Bellus weaves a heartbreaking story, that has parts that are hard to read. She paints such a vivid picture of these characters lives, that your heart breaks for them. You won't be able to express all the emotions that this book makes you feel.
Now, onto the story....... J.J. is a fixer, a saver, a millionaire maker, and is still a broken little boy looking for someone or something to crumble his walls. Navy is broken in so many ways. She has endured thing no human or animal should ever have to take. However, she is a fighter....even though I dont think she can see it. She too is looking for someone (s) or something to help mend her brokenness.
Faye is an amazing character, she is the mother we all love and adds such an amazing dynamic to the story. She is the character that helps ease the heavy. I want more of Faye.
Kemp, oh Kemp. He was a "background" character, but you will fall in love with the big lug. I can't wait to get more of him.
If you are looking for a book that is raw, this is the book for you. If I could I would have rated it higher than 5stars.
Phew....where do I even start. I'm keeping this vague because you need to experience this for yourself. I loved this book. It's raw, brutal, and it'll tug at your heartstrings and have you cheering for JJ and Navy's happy ending. Watching these two characters change, and grow, all for the better is quite the journey. Sometimes I wanted to throat punch JJ, and shake Navy, but when you know what they've both gone through you can understand how they became the people they were when we first me them, and them meeting each other. The secondary characters were phenomenal and were well written. Faye is by far my favorite. She was this compassionate, giving presence and was the support that they all needed at some point. Kemp, JJ's best friend is next( I Hope)and I can't freaking wait because that man has a side to him that I want to see more of.
To say I loved this book is an understatement. I started it late at night and got about 4 chapters in and had to go to bed. This damn book kept me up thinking about what was going to happen. Woke up at 3:00 in the morning and had to finish it. It has been a long time since a book has sucked me into every character so deeply. Momma Faye is the best. I'm gonna start using a wooden spoon. Sooo looking forward to what's going to happen to the Kings of Texas next!!
This book is NOT for the faint of heart. It is hardcore, in your face, one of the most emotional reads HJ Bellus has ever written. There is so much pain and anguish and love. My heart is sad to know this storyline truly does exist in our world today, and HJ does a great job on giving us a little hope and a HEA for at least one life out there. My favorite line is : “You’re becoming my silence.”
Wow,a read I definitely was not expecting! I was engrossed from start to end. This was a very emotional read...one that you will definitely not forget and linger with you after reading(in a good way)
It has been a while since I have read a story about a Cowboy 🤠 and have enjoyed it. But just a heads up this book is not for the faint hearted, it has moments in it that will have you breaking with the characters.
‘Whiskey & You’ is a beautiful story that is filled with many emotions, grief, heartache, sadness, fear, but also love and happiness. J.J and Navy’s story will have you ripping your heart out from the pain and suffering to wanting it back in so you can enjoy the happiness with them.
Both J.J and Navy have suffered more than anyone should have to in one life time. Both of them not realising that after their first interaction that they would be the reason for each other to heal and grow.
J.J is a fixer, a saver, always helping others like Preston did for him, but not realising he needs help as well.
Navy is a shell of a woman, no life or joy in her. She is a sparrow with clipped wings. But with the help, support and love from J.J, Faye, Kemp and Belle she is able to grow, flourish and finally be happy.
We also have to give mention to Faye, she is the mother we all want and need in our lives.
Kemp, Kemp, Kemp. I can not wait to get his story, he is funny, loveable, fierce and so so sweet. The way he is with Belle and Navy when they are at their worse had my heart in a puddle.
Heidi you have done it again. I really can not say a bad thing about this book except that it wasn’t long enough 😉.
HJ Bellus is going to have to stop writing for a while. I don’t think my heart can take another book of hers.
Who am I kidding??!! I need more now!
Whiskey & You is a beautiful love story filled with grief, sadness, hurt and so much heartache. Navy’s story was difficult to hear, but her transformation with the patience and love from JJ was absolute perfection.
Throw in Faye and Kemp and once again, HJB has written a book with characters you feel like are family and you want to know everything about them. I loved when JJ went from Cowboy to Daddy (melted my heart) and I can see big, bad Kemp running around chasing Belle.
I don’t think HJB can write one word that I would not love. This book is perfect and I can’t wait to read Kemp’s!
JJ York is a man whose life started out rough. But he grew into a man who knew what he wanted and took it; at all costs! When he bumps into a rival and his wife, JJ decides this man will pay. Navy is Jordan's wife, but when he throws her over to JJ to pay off a debt, she swears her life is over. A scared, shell of a woman, it takes Navy a lot of convincing from JJ and those he surrounds himself with that she is safe with him. When Jordan said he would come back for Navy, he wasn't exaggerating...he comes back with a vengeance. What he didn't expect was for Navy to have found her inner strength and her feelings for JJ to give her what she's been missing! HJ Bellus gave us a romantic rollercoaster that wil have us soaring with the highest highs and crashing with the lowest lows. An emotional ride that will remind you that love is always worth the work you put into it!
This book was awesome but just a heads up it is not for everybody in the universe.
Whiskey and you is an amazing read filled with a roller coaster of emotions, Navy's story was bloody heartbreaking and will really be difficult for others to read, so guys make sure you have your tissues close and at the ready just letting you know. Bellus, JJ was amazing, he is a ruthless oil tycoon who crosses lines all the time when he is being double-crossed. He is a mean man with an endless wild streak who will cut you by the throat to vet back every cent that is owed to him, so when he does come he is coming to collect all debts that are due. Please say we get to see more of both JJ and Navy in other books of the series.
HJ Bellus we need more please just write plenty more for your fans from all around the world.
Whiskey & You gutted me. HJ Bellus is one of my favorite authors and every time she releases a new book, I´m giddy. After The Flight of Hope I had high expectations on Whiskey & You. And I was not disappointed. Meet Jack Jarvis York. He´s a ruthless oil tycoon, a selfmade man, rough around the edges and called The King of Texas. He´s in-famous for colecting his debts, every time and every where. What starts off as a trade-off between two bitter men turns into life threatening disaster. JJ takes another mans´s wife as collateral and he doesn´t know yet what he set in motion . Whiskey & You is a dark read, gritty and heartwrenching. I give 4,5 stars and can´t wait for Kemp´s story.
I was turned off by j.j. From the get go,the sex scene in the office and the f/f turned my stomach but I thought that’s ok,it won’t be like that once the heroine gets in the picture .... I know this ain’t no Disney movie and that’s f I n e with me,but one of my rules for a book is once the H finds his h and starts to crave her, unless it’s just about literally life and death he.doesn’t.cheat.... And to me it’s cheating when he crawls out of bed w/the h after soothing her and making her feel safe enough to actually sleep in a bed and not the floor like the whipped dog she’s still trying not to be and goes to his room to duck some skank coz like the weak @#$ punk he is, he can’t keep it in his pants.... To me only a weak weak man goes from getting off in his shower thinking the heroine, but then just picks some random skank from his address book to stick his cock in because he’s too damn weak to wait for the heroine to be ready.....
Update: I continued on and finished the book... Even though J.J. thoroughly pissed me off I realized he deserved a second chance, which was ironic I guess seeing as how that's what this book is all about... Second chances,... I like J.J. after his moment w/the skank, realized I was wrong... J.j. was has plenty of faults, P L E N T Y of them but one of the likeable things about him was he was well aware of his, just like I am my own and he was begging to be loved in spite of them and and maybe even because of them.... While I don't like what you did J.J., you did realize you had F'ed up in more ways than one and came back better and asking forgiveness and I can't say No, because I came to love your story and the strength of your love and I hope you can forgive me because I definitely want to read Kemp's story and someone to love me as strongly and fiercely as you and as patiently... Coz like you I will need it....
"It’s then I realize what Kemp is riding J.J. about. Realization dawns on my features, my smile disappears, and my shoulders slump. I fall back into myself, seeking out the one safe spot I can tumble into where nothing or no one can hurt me. It’s my place.
Thank you. Thank you for reminding me J.J. is no exception to the rule. Jordan pulled the same shit—bringing woman after woman into our bed. It’s not the same circumstances but hurts all the same. For the first time in long years, I feel like an idiot. I began to believe in the fairytale only for it to be shattered underneath my own feet. How many times, Navy? How many times will it take?"
I don't know Navy, but you found yours and I pray I find mine....
Thank you Ms. Bellus for your story and please forgive me for being soo unforgiving at 1st glance... I read go want more...
I will start out by saying that the blurb made me nervous I kept going back and forth do I want to read this? Can I give this book a chance? And I realized that Heidi doesn't really lead us astray when she writes, so I gave it a chance and in the first couple of chapters I've realized I fell in love with these boys, they surprise you and aren't what I was thinking at all. I just instantly fell in love with J.J the actions he goes through are ones to protect those he cares about and I loved that no matter how much experience J.J had Navy could still surprise him, “J***s, Navy, you just made me c*m in my darn boxers like a effing teenager.” The boys may think they're the bosses but really it's Faye who holds the reins, “let her be, you darn ogre.” Faye swats J.J. with the wooden spoon in her hand." Oh my gosh I was in love with this book, J.J took care of his own and the man was fierce.
Whiskey and you is an OK read with decent writing. I'm from the UK and really struggled with the dialogue/speech patterns in this book, to the point it would jar me out of the story or I would struggle to understand the sentence. There were instances of repetition in the dialogue too. I usually manage with an American style of speech but this possibly colloquial style of speech simply jarred my English ear.
The story starts off quite hard hitting, I thought the author portrayed the after effects of severe domestic violence excellently. Navy (better as a colour than a heroine's name IMO, but hey-ho) was quite a well written character and seemed to have both personality and depth. Unfortunately JJ, the 'hero', felt like a cardboard cut-out. I would have thought a billionaire would have gone for a better class of whiskey than Jack Daniels but I'm not a whiskey drinker so what do I know? And smoking joints? Why? This is the head of a multi-billion dollar oil company. It didn't seem to fit the character OR the story, in my opinion. Actually the character didn't fit the character - he was so underdeveloped I never felt like a understood/knew/grasped him.
There were some fantastic plot twists and turns that gave this book real potential and suggest an author with an excellent imagination. Unfortunately they often felt randomly dropped into the story rather than being developed, or built up to, over time. This meant the story felt quite disjointed and jumpy at times, almost 'oh here's an idea, lets just throw it in now'. This was exacerbated by the lack of genuine dialogue between Navy and JJ. They seemed to fall in love without any real interactions or conversations. I don't mind some interactions being inferred, but at some point I need to experience a connection forming between the couple. I need to believe in them, their feelings and their chemistry and I just didn't.
Technically the writing was good in terms of sentence structure, editing, continuity etc. I liked Navy, I believed in her as a character and I loved how JJ helped her let go of the past. We all have our likes and dislikes in styles of writing and I think this one just wasn't for me. I imagine lots of people would enjoy this book and would recommend downloading a sample to see if you're one of them.
Everyone loves a cowboy. But what if this cowboy isn't your typical cowboy? JJ York is a cowboy billionaire that you don't want to cross. Growing up not knowing when or if he would eat again, to being rich and having more power than most could ever dream JJ is a force to reckon with. But every thing that goes up must come down. And in JJ's case learning to love could be what brings this larger than life cowboy to his knees.
Navy is a broken sparrow who is lost in a world of demons and pain. Until the day she is given by her husband as payment to another man. Damaged and lost from living a life in hell, she now must face the unknown. Navy just doesn't know if her new "owner" is more of the things nightmares are made of or the cowboy on a white horse coming to save her.
HJ Bellus doesn't disappoint once again in her ability to tell a story and reel her readers in. Whiskey and You is book that draws you in and doesn't let go until the very last word leaving you wanting more.
“I like the taste of whiskey on your lips. It feels like home.”
A total emotional read. This book is packed full of heart, emotions, and suspense; all of this will have you hooked from the start. You will be guessing to see what happens next and you’ll be surprised.
J.J York isn’t who you think he is. Yeah he’s a billionaire cowboy who drinks whiskey. But he’s more then that. He’s got a heart but doesn’t like to show it.
Navy is wife of a Mexican cartel. But she is given to JJ as payment..so we thought. She isn’t your typical heroine, she is scarred and she was abused. She fighting her own demons as she finds herself falling for a man who saved her.
The love J.J and Navy have is simply off the charts. They have a deep emotional scars, they are both helping each other to get through from.
Another hit for HJ Bellus, can’t wait to see more.
I usually so far what I have read from this author loved because it consumed me. This I thought for sure would do it too. When I opened it and started with J.J. I was going slow in it. I was starting to not be too sure because it was not starting out that I liked him too much. When Navy comes into the picture I keep going to see because I have a feeling this author is being sneaky with us readers. As the story keeps going I am now in it for her I want to see her story with all the nooks and craniess. As he and her build a relationship of some type I begin to see him. I mean really see him so I think aha. This one is dark and dangerous where it sneaks up on you and devours you. You want to know where it goes and who will come out on top. Now thanks to sneaky I want to be devoured by the next one also.
I can honestly say this is a book hangover waiting to happen. I was going to start it the night I received it but decided to wait until morning and thank goodness because I read it in one day. Such a heart wrenching yet heart warming story of strength, survival, love and self sacrifice that I'm still thinking of JJ and Navy and wishing I could live in their world just a bit longer. Can't wait for the next Kings of Texas story!!
JJ and Navy were so amazing together. JJ saved Navy from her marriage and he fell harder than he thought he would. This author put so much feeling and emotions in this book I couldn’t put it down. If you love suspense, alpha males, amazing love, and a book that keeps you on your toes this is the one! You must read
