Dear Jackson,
I'm leaving you this note because I know you're very busy and I don't want to waste the town sheriff's time. Lord knows I've already wasted enough of it.

Thank you for taking me home last night and...everything else. I made you a basket of wild blueberry muffins for your trouble. That seemed like the appropriate baked good for getting naked in your living room.

After reading and loving Fresh Catch, I was really looking forward to Hard Pressed. Sadly, I was disappointed.

We first met Annette in Fresh Catch, and she is heart broken when she finds out the man she has been in love with, is in love with another man. This irked me because she has been crushing on Owen for years, yet he never showed any interest in more than a friendship. Didn’t she get the message? It just all seemed a little like high school drama to me. Her inner dialogue plucked

There’s a fair bit of GIF-gushing there, so I’ll try and keep it to a minimum here.

Ok, fine. Let’s pretend I’m not about to word-vomit all up in here, shall we?

Jackson is the swoony hero I didn’t know I wanted, but I absolutely needed right now. His love for Annette, all of her, exactly as she is, well ...ok I’m ALWAYS a sucker for that, but h

Overall Opinion: This felt...meh. I didn't hate it, but I just thought it was okay. I struggled with the h and her pushing the H away. I also didn't quite understand their feelings. Their lust? Yeah, I got that. Just the other stuff I didn't, because it felt like all their relationship was was sex and the h pushing the H away. Pretty low angst too. So, anyone looking for a small town, easy, and sexy read -- this very well might work for you!

4.5 stars!

OMG, I loved this book! Sweet, sexy, laugh-out-loud hilarious, swoony and heartfelt, this is a fantastically fun read, one of Kate’s best, and I couldn’t put it down.

This is the second book in the Talbott’s Cove series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Annette was introduced in the first book of this series, Fresh Catch as the owner of the local bookstore, and a woman with a mad crush on lobsterman Owen Bartlett (who in fact turned out to be gay). Heartbroken – more over the
I loved Jackson. Annette was cute and sweet. At times, she was a little too wacky for me.
Brooke was the typical crazy bff.
I love this author's writing. Cute small town RomCom.

Jackson was a babe. He deserves songs to be written about him. Annette on the other hand I wanted to strangle with my bare hands.

The ONLY set up I enjoy reading in books is extremely stubborn women who make heroes chase them to a totally unreasonable degree. I fucking eat it up. I love seeing the hero work for it. So in theory this should have worked for me BUT her reasons for pushing him away were so fucking annoying. She’s getting over the most pathetic ten year old crush on a lad that was ve

I loved the cover on this one and the blurb responded to my need for something light and romantic without all the angst and darkness of what I've settled on for several weeks now. Although I found a lot to like, I just never felt this story was fully developed. There were so many unanswered questions and dangling ends. The big case the sheriff and FBI were working on together was so inadequately covered and who the heck did they arrest? What's the deal with Brooke keeping her father's situation ...more

A light and fun book.
I loved the H !! Very much. He was lovely and sweet and nice.
Didn't like the h that much, I know it was because of her issues but she got on my nerves with her attitude for more than half the book...
Great chemistry and good steamy moments.
I wish the prologue had looked further into the future though!
All in all though, it was quite a nice and enjoyable read.

First of all, I cannot even believe Hard Pressed is the very first Kate Canterbary book I have ever read. I feel like a prize idiot for not listening to my friends who said, “read Kate, you will love her.” Hard Pressed was the perfect Kate gateway book for me, because it checked all manner of boxes - sexy af, swoony, smart and brilliantly funny. So damn funny.

I honestly don’t think that I was prepared for just how much I was going love Hard Pressed. But yeah, this book stole my heart. From the

Gah!!! You guys!!! Reading a Kate Canterbary novel is legit like coming home for me. And revisiting Talbott's Cove? Pure heaven! This story hit me right in the feels and was pure comfort for me. I LOVE this little world this genius author(lady) created and can not get enough of her words. Annette and Jackson were amazing. I loved their banter, chemistry and laugh out loud moments. This was a pure joy to read.

This is my first Kate Canterbary book and I freaking loved it! I loved Annette, I LOVED Jackson, and together they were amazing. Annette was so relatable, the perpetual family underdog and town sweetheart who captured the attention of the new sheriff and couldn't understand why. And the way Jackson pursued her in all his sweet, hot alpha glory, sigh...I read this book in a day and see myself rereading in the future. 5+ stars!

Looks like I’m an outlier with this review, and I am bummed because I was really excited about this book based on the blurb, but I honestly just never liked Annette. I had so many issues with her, and I did not understand what Jackson ever saw in her. He was so sweet and sexy, and overly understanding and patient. I think he deserved a lot better. 🙁

I enjoyed reading this one, it was sweet and hot, with a devoted, patient hero and kind but hesitant heroine.
She did so much pushing away, and not for a reason I would like, (view spoiler) but I had fun nevertheless.

The two MCs were everything adorable. I couldn't read fast enough, but at the same time I didn't want the book to end. Love, love, loooooved it.

Hot and Fresh Out the Oven!!!
Hard Pressed is an irresistible love story. Set in Kate Canterbary's picturesque and charming Talbott's Cove, it introduces us to some quirky and unique characters. It is a place where everyone knows everyone else. So when the town sweetheart and the new sherriff share some sparks, the whole town is watching.

Annette is kind, hardworking, generous, and loyal. Her bookstore and baking are her passions. She sets goals and tries to follow plans. When her plans are blown

Where to begin? Jackson and Annette live in the tiny town of Talbotts Cove. Jackson, a transplant from New York, finds himself a bit distracted by the local lady book seller, Annette.

Annette is a lovely woman. She's a bit unsure of herself, but her bestie Brooke is there to remind her she's awesome. She's smart and determined, she keeps herself busy and is a friend to all. Jackson can't figure out what draws him to Annette, but when he finally gets his chance, he doesn't back down.

Sweet and easy!

The h obsession with the guy that she deep inside knows is gay but just refuse to accept and move with her life was annoying to read.
Her lack of self-esteem and worth with her family was a big no!!!

No cheating, no OW drama! No manwhore H!

A vacation read!!

Looking forward to Broke story! She's a hand full!

There's something about Talbot’s Cove that makes me never want to leave! Hard Pressed was a really sweet read, and my second from Kate Canterbary. I loved getting into Annette's head after her bubble burst from her unrequited love with Owen. Jackson swoops in and makes it known that he's into her. She doesn't know how to accept his affection.

I was a slave for this woman and she didn't even know it.

The character development and story building was fantastic in this one. Annette's insecurities

What do I say??? It’s been a little bit since I’ve ever had these swoony feels for a hero like I do Jackson.

Michelle: Lady, not even two pages into Hard Pressed and I was like “where have you been all my life?” obviously talking to my IPad since Jackson could not hear me lol.

Ivy: I know!! I was not expecting to fall so fast and so hard for him. I mean, he’s just a good man. Moral, strong, but not boring in a

Received in exchange for a honest review.

I loved Jackson. He was kind, patient and understanding. He respected Annette and didn’t push her in fact he pulled her back at times. As Sheriff in Talbot’s Cove he had a lot on his plate but he loved every second of it. How he handled Annette’s mom and sisters was perfect. And how he was with Annette was swoony and sexy. I loved the cooking together and how he listened truly listened.

Annette was reeling when the book first began. She had been in denial

This is romance.
This is what I want to experience when I pick up my iPad and reach for my next read to get lost in. Kate Canterbary is one of those authors that reaches into my hearts and unicorn loving heart and ticks off every necessary box I need.

Jackson and Annette are destined for each other. And if they aren't? Jackson is going to make damn sure they are. Well, Annette...poor Annette she wants to protect her poor battered heart. But her panties seem to fly off every time the HAWT sheriff

With every book that Kate Canterbary pens, it gets increasingly more difficult for me to formulate a review. Because she never fails to astound me. And it goes so much further than the storyline. Take the plot of this book- a somewhat sheltered, somewhat lonely, but very sweet bookstore owner and the hunky sheriff, a recent addition to the small town of Talbott's Cove, cross paths in an unexpected way and try to figure out the nuances of a relationship in between meddling families, friends and n ...more

I have loved all of this author’s books in the past but this one I didn’t. I really liked Jackson. Brooke was hilarious. Annette annoyed me, but my real issue here was that I just didn’t feel the connection with this couple. I didn’t feel the love, something was just missing for me here. I also felt like the writing style felt a bit different here than what I’m used to from this author- there was so much inner dialogue at the beginning. I almost felt like the cha

Is it odd to say that you want to hug a book? It probably is, but that’s how I feel about Kate Canterbary’s Hard Pressed. I love it so freaking much that I just want to squeeze it tight and smile adoringly at it, and I challenge anyone to read it and not be tempted to do the same. It’s just that good. Jackson and Annette will steal your heart as they tumble into love with an abundance of laugh-out-loud moments, sexy times and heart-melting exchanges along the way. Another book where the heroine let this couple down. There was some great chemistry going on, some sweet baked goods, some humour and a great deal of hotness from the hero Jackson. It was a slow start for me, and too much talk about Owen (who I do not know) so my impatience got the better of me and i skipped out around half way mark. Not enough depth for me, would have finished it if I did not have so many other books to read. Maybe i would have liked it better had I been lazing around on the be ...more

I always love reading about a Asian-American character and seeing Jackson being fully integrated in the community was such a huge plus for me. I definitely enjoyed the chemistry between Annette and him and I wish the book was longer and we'd get to know more of them! 100% recommend

Turning Pages At ...: Hard Pressed by Kate Canterbary 37 21 Jul 17, 2018 02:09PM
Kate Canterbary doesn't have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean--Pacific or Atlantic--is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, ...more
