Corsairs #2

In The Corsair's Bed

Rate this book
As a pirate, I tend to hang out with unsavory outcasts at the edges of the known universe. I'm used to running into thieves, assassins, and fugitives. It shouldn't surprise me to see a forbidden human female for sale in the tunnels of the space station, but I hate it.

When I see she's near death, I have to act. I buy her. She spits in my face. It's love at first sight. At least, it's love at first sight on my end.

I know it can never be, though, because I'm an ugly beast of an alien to her. The enemy. If only she knew just how many laws I'd be willing to break for one taste of her lips....

Contains mature themes.

Ruby Dixon is an author of Science Fiction Romance. She likes fated mates, baby-filled epilogues, and cinnamon roll heroes. She also likes to write biographies of herself in the third person, because it feels more important that way.

Ruby also loves coffee and dirty books and will probably be a cat lady at some point. :)

This first intrigued me when the herorine straight up spat in his face and his response was to just completely fall in love with her

So of course finding such a sassy response, I found this gem i read it. And i fucking loved it

descriptiondescription

Meet Cat. Yes its another heroine named Cat but stick with me okay

“Did you just try to kill me? Kef, that’s cute.”
“Fuck you,” I tell him, frightened. ”

She is hella fierce despite everything she has gone through and doesn't put up with anyone’s bullshit.

She ends up on a pirate ship with some old fav characters which i mean space pirates fuck yeah lets do it

“Bit of a problem with one of the locals. We should probably head out.” He pauses for a moment. “And change our name. And our call signal. And our records.”
Sentorr groans, because that work falls on him. “What did you do?”

description

And then theres Tarekh the dream—so big and strong but so goddamn sweet

“Who you are is this person here. The fierce little human who does what she must to survive and spits in the face of danger. I love her. I loved her since I met her.”

Like you fuckers don’t even know I love this man...alien...person.... whatever!

“I don’t want her to know that I’m obsessed with her. That I’ve considered her mine ever since she tried to stab me in med-bay with my own needle”

He is the beastly medic on the ship who has been scarred and thinks he ugly and therefore when Cat tries to play games he is hella confused and its fucking cute:

“His horns flush. Tarekh tears his gaze away from my cleavage and then shoots me an incredulous look. “This is a game?”
“A sexy game.”
Relief moves over his face and he rubs a big hand down his jaw. “You’ll be the death of me, Cat. Little tease.”
“Shhh,” I tell him, nudging his leg with my boot. “Play along.”
He schools his features and clears his throat. “Sorry. Of course. What can this lowly medic do to help you, female?”

description

It was the perfect mix of cute but also sexy as fuck

“I grind down against him, rocking my hips in tune to the weird, lilting music of the cantina. “This tune’s kinda catchy,” I say lightly. “Don’t you think, Tarekh?”
“Quickly becoming one of my favorites,” I hear him say”

It was just a fun game of Cat and mouse..hehe... on a space ship and their banter quickly made them a favortie couple

Overall solid 4 star, like this is the one I reread when I want a good alien smut 👌

This is a sweet re-enacting of the old Beauty and the Beast.

An ugly hero with a heart of gold and the patience of a saint.

An abused heroine with a steel-will to live.

Cute and endearing this books doesn't have any action i it, but it is only a falling in love and healing story.

I love this book. I love this series. Let's be honest - I love Ruby Dixon. Yas Queen! Once again, she has taken the same concept and turned it into something totally different and refreshing. While I could rave about her talent all day, I will spare you from my fangirling. You're welcome.

Tarek, the beastly medic of the ship, comes across a beautifully broken female slave for sale. He feels drawn to her so he buys her with hopes to set her free. Inwardly he knows that Catrin will never be free because humans are basically illegal in outer space, but he wants to give her a chance at a better life.

Of course, Catrin doesn't believe him. Why would she after she has been treated terribly by all of the alien species? The reason she is bloodied and broken is because she is a fighter. And she is determined to fight Tarek to escape him and his ship.

So you want to know why I rated this 4 stars instead of 5, huh? It was too short. I was immensely enjoying it and then *poof* it was over. Does the book truly deserve the 4 star rating? Absolutely not; I'm just needy and needed more. I actually need more from Ruby all the time because her writing is just so good and I always hate when I finish one of her books because I didn't want that magnificent world/story to come to an end. I am on the verge of fangirling again, so I am just going to stop here. K? K.

Cat and Tarekh

When the Dancing Fool becomes the Lovesick Fool, it will have 5 passengers instead of 4. Fran is already part of the crew and very much in love with her Mesakkah pirate. Tarekh is the next crew member who will save a human female.

Poor Tarekh is really ugly for Mesakkah standards and as a result he lacks female companionship and affection. But he also has the kindest soul and he really cares as he is the Ship's medic.

Cat had been a slave for a while before Tarekh finds her and buys her. She is broken, weak, hungry and scared. When she realises that she is safe and nobody expects any sexual favours and payback from her, she will try her best to earn a place in the Dancing Fool. She will try also very hard to convince Tarekh that he is not a charity case and that she finds him very attractive (for a blue devil!).

“You’re safe here,” he tells me unnecessarily once more. It’s like he feels he needs to keep saying it just so I know for sure, and that’s kind of sweet.
“You might have mentioned that once or twice,” I tell him.

I believe this is my favourite book of the series. Tarekh and Cat have a great chemistry together and although it takes a while until they admit their feelings and jump on bed, the sexual tension is present throughout the book. And anyway they both needed to take their time for different reasons each one of them. Tarekh needs to believe in himself and Cat needs to forget her horrific previous life as a slave and heal. The clever humour again is not absent, while the hot scenes between them are excellent!

Obviously Corsairs is a much darker series than Ice Planet Barbarians and it has a more intense high tech vibe.

The space slob!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☹️🙃☺️😍😘
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Tarekh - he is the medic on the Dancing Lady and he is a bit lax and lazy when it comes to his chores on the ship, according to Kivian from the first book. He is also known to be the biggest and ugliest of the corsairs. When Kivian goes on vacation with Fran, Tarekh is in charge of the ship.

The heroine: Cat - ever since she was captured by aliens, and repeatedly sold as a sex slave, she has seen a bunch of different kinds of aliens and she always fights them. Though she ends up getting beaten in the end, especially since she is small, weak and malnourished.

The Story: Tarekh and Alyvos are in a cantina when someone picks Alyvos’s pocket and they dash off to recover the stolen credits. Tarekh runs into a slave trader, selling female slaves. He sees a human female in the corner and he can’t just walk by since he is fond of Fran. The girl he sees is covered in lacerations and bruises. The medic in him can’t pass her up because she looks frail and ill.

Tarekh is definitely a great character, he is a slob, and he is huge and fierce looking, but he is also a bit of a teddy bear. He is nice, sweet and protective. Cat is also a terrific character, though she was beaten down when they found her, she snapped back pretty fast and became very happy with her new life right away. It took her a while to fall for Tarekh, but I liked that they became good friends first and that she felt safe with him and counted on him.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and is narrated by Hollie Jackson and Mason Lloyd. These two are often narrators on Ruby Dixon books and do great job. Their voices work great for the alien romance genre and I am very happy with their narration. I have been liking this series and I absolutely love the space pirates trope. The only thing is that the books in this series could be longer.

Totally enjoying this series!!

Tarikh has a face only a mother could love and he never expects to find love.

description

He's so unattractive that prostitutes avoid his ugly mug.

But he is absolutely beautiful on the inside. And he is just what Cat needs to recover.

Cat is a used and abused sex slave on the brink of death when Tarikh stumbles across her. He purchases her and rescues her from the atrocious abuse she has survived. He helps her heal with patience and love. Cat grows to love the man within and sees him for his inner beauty and not his outside appearance.

Bravo and thanks Ruby Dixon for another win! Can't wait to read more of this series!

Ruby Dixon is the literary equivalent of a hot cup of tea and a warm soft blanket on a winter night. Its just never bad.

This is another total SCORE in her aliens series.
This is separate from the Ice Planet Barbarians series, but same species of blue aliens with kidnapped humans.
Warm fuzzy rescue of a down but not out heroine by a big sweet teddy bear of an alien.
HFN ending

2.5 Estrellas!

This time I did this reread in audio and the narrator was amazing. It is great to put a voice to Cat and Tyrek. I will listen to this entire corsairs series because why the heck not. 🥰🥰

I recommend this to anyone who needs a quick story with the perfect amount of romance a pining. Oh! And did I forget to mention they are 🏴‍☠️ pirates.

Swoon on 1,000 lol 😂

Reread - love Tarekh
Ok but how is he so adorable? Cat and Tarekh are such a good match. He has all this never ending patience and the most awful self image and she has all the fierce self protectiveness. He gives her the time to heal and is her friend first and foremost. She is his champion and defender. Their balance is just so on point. The terrible condition her finds her in is utterly heartbreaking though, and the rescue aspect of it was awesome.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: SA (off page), severe illness, abuse (off page), PTSD flashbacks, trafficking, slavery

I did the audio for this book. The male narrator is pretty popular, I have listened to him several times and I’ll say it every time. He sounds too causal and he doesn’t fit the Hero of the book. I like a deep male voice and he just doesn’t cut it for me. I can imagine him doing a narration of a rom-com or something along those lines.

I liked the female voice and I wouldn’t say she’s my favorite, but she’s tolerable and didn’t hinder my listening experience like the male did.

I’m on the fence with this series. The books are really short and there’s no smut. Sure there’s a steamy scene, but other than that, it’s just all fluff and a lot of lead up. I like the easy, no muss no fuss storyline, but I would have liked the books to be a little longer and a little more depth if there isn’t going to be any smut.

Also this book does sound real very similar to the first book and that wasn’t cool.

You have a damsel girl that is damaged so very guarded. You have a Nobel Hero and he shows her kindness. But because he is ugly he thinks he can’t get a chance with her.

BUT she slowly falls in love with him.

Overall the books are great to pass the time, just wish there was more smut.

Haven't re!d one from this point of view. Being on a space station, cause the captain on leave with his wife. You go for a quick exploration. Seeing what the station has to offer. Finding a human. Was a surprise. But when you bid on the sickly thing. Bring the human back to your ship. Get the med needle snatched out of your hands. As said Hyman threatens your life. It must be love.

It like those that love seeing ladies with a big knife or gun. You've caught their attention

Tarekh and Cat's story

Oh my god, Tarekh is the sweetest cinnamon roll ever. I was living for this relationship. Their friendship was so flippin' cute, and it actually felt like it meant something when they took things to the next level/got physical. Tarekh and Cat are definitely one of the sweeter couples that I've seen from Ruby Dixon. I feel like I can always count on this author for a fun and steamy romp.

I need more cinnamon roll alien heroes in my life! Tarekh was the best cinnamon roll alien hero. I loved how he accepted Cat, he didn’t push her for more after all the abuse she went through, he let her process, heal and trust him. This one was short and as I am finding with the Corsair’s series, the humans take a minute to warm up and then the book is over after a steamy session. I am not complaining these are just the perfect snack on the buffet of Ruby Dixon’s aliens.

Ms. Dixon writes some of my fave crackilicious series and I'm hooked. More serious, especially considering what Cat's gone through (possible triggers for those who have suffered rape, though it's in her past and happened offpage, the implication is clear and the state she meets Tarekh in is pretty bad). Novella length, so not alot of time to delve into her trauma but I think it's handled well and I completely bought into their love. I enjoyed it and definitely recommend for fans of alien sci-fi roms. Onto the next.

Welcome aboard the space ship Dancing Fool. It contains a small crew of ruthless pirates looking to make their fortune. Well kinda. They’re definitely pirates, however the ruthlessness is a little iffy, especially when faced with a human woman in distress.

Tarek the ships medic is used to women shuddering in revulsion at his ugly face and big bulky body. Cat was abducted and enslaved and is now cut up, bruised, battered and on the brink of dying on a seedy space station corridor. Until she is bought and patched up by a big blue alien with a rough face who tells her she is now free. But Cat isn’t sure she wants to leave her big blue medic with a rough face and a heart of pure gold.

Another Ruby Dixon hit! There’s nothing I love her horned and tailed blue mesakkah aliens. Whether in the Ice Planet Barbarian series – which, although set in the same universe has a completely separate and unrelated story line – or her Corsair series, they never fail to charm the pants off me. Not only because of their gorgeous bodies and big horns, but because they are just so damn adorably sweet.

And Tarek is definitely adorably sweet. His big body and uneven face just conceal the kind hearted and gentle giant he is. As soon as he sees Cat, he just wants to protect her expecting nothing in return. How can a girl not fall in love with that? Cat certainly did. I loved Cat, she was strong with a cheeky sense of humour and completely clueless about that her favourite big blue alien was in love with her.

If you are a Dixon fan already then you will love this book, it’s a great addition to the series and so far my favourite. Tarek and Cat were a fantastic couple, both were playful and protective of one another; a fatal combination. If you’re not a fan that just means you haven’t tried the books yet!

The second in the Corsairs series! This is just a quick, fast-paced, space pirate adventure. The reads are all novella length (just under 150 pages each) and a fun time. This one starts off with the heroine spitting in the hero’s face, trying to kill him, and he just thinks it’s cute. 😅

Cat was enslaved, abused, and bruised up when Tarekh finds her. He ends up purchasing her and patching her back up. He’s a cinnamon roll who thinks he’s hideous to look at, but she likes him and even asks for a job to help out on the ship. He gives her space and time and lets her set the pace for any sort of relationship they might have. Just a fun time being on the ship with the rest of the characters of this series! The audios are on hoopla for this series and quick reads!

That was so cute. Definitely one of my favorite Ruby Dixon novellas and just what I needed right now, a quick, entertaining read. You’ve got a big, scarred, ugly alien doctor and the sassy near death human slave who’s been through a lot that he saves out of the goodness of his heart, nurses back to health, becomes bffs with and later more. Just real sweet.

Omg I loved this one so much. Tarekh, be still my heart 🥺❤️
"Tarekh is like a big, easygoing teddy bear of a devil-alien. There is absolutely nothing scary about this man other than his size."
There's a bit of a beauty and the beast theme going on here. Tarekh is a gentle giant with a big heart, but people keep away from him because they think his face is ugly 😭 Even though he's a total sweetheart who is easygoing and likes to laugh a lot 🥺 When Tarekh finds an injured human woman, he rescues her and brings her aboard the ship. Tarekh is a medic and heals the woman's wounds, but she doesn't trust him or anyone else on the ship.

Cat was kidnapped by aliens and forced into a life of sex slavery. She's gone through A LOT, but she's a fighter who's determined to survive. When Tarekh saves her life, she has a hard time believing that his motives are pure. But when she's offered a job on the ship, she slowly gets to know Tarekh and the rest of the crew. Eventually, she settles down and begins to trust everyone on the ship, especially Tarekh.
"I'm happy to be her friend and defender. She hasn't had many of those in the past and I aim to pick up the slack."
"She's protecting me. A funny ache starts in my chest."
Theirs is a slow burn friends to lovers romance and I adoooooore them together 🥺 Tarekh is so patient, caring, and loving 🥺 Cat is so fierce and constantly defends Tarekh when others joke about his "ugly face." As much as I loved Kivian and Fran from book 1, Tarekh and Cat stole my heart 🥺❤️
