4.5 out of 5 stars

Thank goodness this book is finally out! I have a love hate relationship with cliff hangers. I love how they leaving me wanting more while at the same time find myself frustrated with having to wait what feels like forever for the next installment to release. I couldn't wait to jump right in and see what would happen with Lorenzo and Huntley now that the Queen announced, without warning, an engagement between Lorenzo and Lizzie. Secretly what I most hoped were these two characters wouldn't go back to square one. I really didn't want to see their character regress. I won't give it all away but I'm pleased to say not only was I not disappointed but I really think Lorenzo and Huntley managed to strengthen their bond.

While the pace of this book never slows down I found myself reading slower than my normal pace. Partly due to wanting to savor my time with these characters and partly because I found myself even more engrossed with the "spy" part of the story. I think in some of the previous book within this series I've felt lost or even overwhelmed but I think having Huntley go "rogue" and work through all the details in her mind helped me get a better grasp of all the different players in this mission.

The Dauntless is a page-turner filled with lots of surprises, and honestly a lot of love and I'm not just talking about the romantic kind. Boundaries are established and then their pushed. We're introduced to a new character and we even get to know a couple of regular ones on a deeper level. You're constantly trying to figure out who can be trusted, whose the enemy and what's their end game. Of course by the time you reach the end you're left with another pretty crazy cliffhanger - one I never even saw coming. But it's one I think is going to take this series to the next level. Well done Jillian Dodd! I don't know how you keep dreaming up these stories but I hope you never stop!

And just like that....we’ve been completely thrown again. Wow. Wow. Wow. I don’t really know if I can even say anything. This installment of the series is not only crazy intense, it’s a page turner. It’s full of emotions, but also suspense. I’m blown away. But then again, I’m always quite blown away by the stories JD writes. She is brilliant.

The Dauntless KILLED it. IMO this is the BEST book of the series, yet. I didn't know what to expect with this series, but I am so in love with it. Huntley is such a BA, and the lengths she goes to get to the bottom of everything makes me love her so so much. She is fighter, but she is also a lover. Her growth from The Prince to The Dauntless, is HUGE. With each book her tenacity grows more and more. She does not give up, even when she gets knocked down (and we know that happens A LOT).

If you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for this release, you should know it will keep you on your toes. It’s a brilliant masterpiece. Each page leaves you wanting more. It leaves you constantly guessing and then second guessing yourself. I love the twists and turns, but I also feel like Author Jillian Dodd leaves us little Easter Eggs too. Which means you need to go through each of these books with a fine toothed comb, to catch all of the little surprises she leaves us. Gosh, I love this series so much.

It is often told, you should write what you know. While this is a brilliantly written mystery and intrigue filled story about doomsday scenario with a kickass female spy, the author failed spectacularly at the romance plot. I wish she would have just skipped the whole romance trope between Huntley and Lorenzo and spared everyone the drama and total disaster that they made of their relationship. It wouldn’t really have affected the plot of the book anyway, seeing as even though the whole thing will affect Montrovia, the King of Montrovia instead of helping Huntley is busy getting engaged to a woman he doesn’t want to get married to while being in love with Huntley. Their whole reasoning for not being together made no sense at all in this book.
Aside from that, I did enjoy the Black X revelation and while stretching the whole plot over seven books was a lot, I am committed to seeing who the leader of The Echelon is and what they really are planning.

This is such a fun addictive series you need to read. I got so excited to see the next installment on my kindle. After the fourth book ended I was already needing the next book and this one did not disappoint. These books are full of action and have you wondering what is going to happen next.

Thankfully this book picks up where The Valiant left off. We get some answers but are still left with some questions. Huntley is the best heroine, she is smart and caring and trying to save a country and keep her heart intact. I don’t want to give anything away in this amazing series. This is a series you don’t want to miss out on.

I could not wait for this one to come out and I devoured it as soon as it did. Now somehow I completely forgot to get on and review it when I finished so shame on me.

I was left biting my fingernails with how book four was left and I could not wait to see what happened next. I will admit I was a little disappointed I didn't get more Lorenzo and Huntley but by no means was I disappointed by the book. We learn more about the underground organization and slowly learn more about Huntley and the pieces that surround her. Now I am once again waiting to find out what happens next. I really enjoy this series, it is an easy fast read that sucks you in quickly and leaves you wanting more.

MIND BLOWN!!!!!!
Jillian did extensive research to make this series undeniably real. Huntley a girl who is smart as whip, fast as a horse and as stylish as any celebrity with good taste. We see more of certain characters personalities come through and some who we knew but now love as they’ve grown. Said “trust no one,” but what does a girl do when it just gets to much and is running out of time She learns to play like the men.
The characters from the beginning start to come more to life and friendships are evolving, but how much longer can she keep up the act with her new friends?

It’s amazing to be able to slip into something extraordinarily written. sooo many of the theories I’ve been thinking this entire series has come to light!
Another cliffhanger duh, but SO worth it.

More surprises and twists are revealed in The Dauntless. At the beginning, Huntley is recovering from a betrayal and goes rogue to try to uncover whose behind the Society and what their plans are that ended with her mother's death. This book was a page turner that kept me guessing from beginning to end. I actually couldn't stop thinking about all of the secrets uncovered after the end of the story and kept pondering new theories. Even though Huntley's main mission in the story is not just nationally but globally significant, I can't help but pull for the romantic in me. I want all of the love stories to work out and everyone find their bit of happiness.

The Dauntless (Spy Girl #5) by Jillian Dodd
4.5 stars!!!

“In most seafaring cultures, they say the captain should go down with his ship. I love my country, but I fear it’s sinking, and it will take me under.”

This series is so addictive, every time a new instalment comes out I am on it and read through at a rate of knots. As with all previous instalments, this book is action-packed, fast-paced, addictive and all-consuming and the attention to detail was phenomenal. The amount of research and effort is astonishing, and the reward is definitely for the reader to reap. Our amazing heroine goes rogue in this instalment as Huntley Von Allister gets closer and closer to getting the answers she desperately craves, but are the answers ones she wants to hear?

This series is now five books in, yet it doesn’t feel that way. This is a series that is worthy of a TV serial, and I would love to see it on screen. The possibilities are endless with a heroine such as Huntley. Huntley is a trained killing machine, but one thing she has been starved of is love and affection since the death of her parents. Huntley finds it hard to trust, rightly so, but the friendships that she makes throughout this series are ones to be cherished. Yet, it has got to that point where Huntley has to go back and assess everybody. Who can she really trust, who has their own agenda, who is really on her side?

The Dauntless picks up where The Valiant left off, and the cliffhanger is answered quickly, thank god. Huntley resumes the trail of breadcrumbs that she has been left, still finding trouble wherever she goes that is answered as only Huntley knows how. Like I said above, the attention to detail and research is second to none and this all adds up to deliver one incredibly addictive story that I just couldn’t let go. Reading as fast I could while still digesting every word my heart was running a mile a minute as Huntley navigates her way around something is more than just a game.

“I have been so honest with you, Huntley; I’m practically transparent.”

Huntley’s relationship with Lorenzo is still up in the air, and I continue to champion these two along despite the hurdles they have still yet to jump. With the action ramping up to another epic cliff-hanger, that I never saw coming, Jillian Dodd certainly knows how to keep the reader's attention rapt and hanging off every single word.

“Lorenzo is more. He brings more joy and beauty to my life. More love. More happiness. But with that, sadly, seems to come more rouble, more danger, more pain, and more heartbreak.”

I cannot wait for The Phoenix to be released and it literally cannot come quick enough. Jillian Dodd is the queen of cliffhangers in this series and while this one was relatively tame compared to the others, what was revealed, was definitely not. Jaw meet floor. Absolutely adored it, bring on the next one.

Thrills. Friendship. Heartbreak. Forgiveness.

This is the 5th installment in the Spy Girl series and each book after the first gets better and better. This book starts where the last left off, but this time... HUNTLEY IS CALLING THE SHOTS!

Her mission after quitting the Black X is to retrace her steps and remember her mother in the midst of a shredded heart. Yes, I said shredded. Not broken or crushed. I said shredded like Lorenzo stuck it through a paper shredder because he did.

Lorenzo and Huntley finally made it to the place where they could be vulnerable in the last book, even leading to a ring. But Lorenzo’s mother had other ideas and announced Enzo’s engagement to Lizzy instead. Too bad both royal “lovers” love other people.

When the news is broke and Huntley throws back the ring, will she run into Daniels arms? Will she leave without a trace and go on a dangerous and valiant mission to know her deceased mother? Will Enzo track her down, apologize, or go to the press to right the wrong before it’s too late? Or all of these things because Huntley is a very round character and capable of all.

Not to mention, let’s be real. Someone dies in almost all of the Spy Girl books. Will someone die in the 5th installment? If so, who?

These are all enthralling questions you need to read the book to find answers too.

I personally could not put this book down in the final chapters I mean... holy cow! Talk about mind blown. You really learn a lot about Huntley’s background in this book and it leads you into anticipation for the next!

I can’t wait for the next book to see how the lovers turn out and how Huntley’s new friends come into play.

Amazing work, Jillian... and btw TEAM ENZO FROM BEGINNING TO END!❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been a huge fan of the Spy Girl Series by Jillian Dodd, but have taken a break until more books released so I could binge on them again, and now I’m back into it and The Dauntless was just what I needed and more!

Picking up where The Valiant left off, Lorenzo and Huntley are torn apart after finally finding happiness, and Huntley is on a mission of her own. What I really loved about this book, was Huntley figuring things out for herself. Not playing by anyone else’s rules except for her own, and working through figuring out what was going to happen on her own terms. She was trying to figure out who she could trust and who she couldn’t and that was an interesting aspect of this book. We got to see Huntley become more human and relatable in this book, and I was all for it!

This book had so many twists and turns, and at times I wasn’t even sure who could be trusted. So many new things come to light and things you think you know are definitely shown not to be true in The Dauntless and I enjoyed every single piece of it! I hated seeing Huntley and Lorenzo torn apart, and I hated the decisions Huntley made because of it, but seeing her shine on her own and working through solving the mystery of what is going on was amazing, I just wish she could do that and have Lorenzo with her at the same time.

This series keeps getting better and better and I can’t wait to dive into the next book, especially with how this book ended. The Spy Girl Series must be read in order, but trust me, this is a series you will want to read, it has angst, love, twists and turns, secrets and lies, everything you could possibly want in a series!

Plottwist!

Oh God’s sake! Whyyyyyyyy is this so repetitive?? Huntley is truly annoying with her mood swings towards a certain someone. Her reaction in the cliffy from the previous book was so immature, then she just carried onto her life but in the road she “forgave” him but couldn’t even call him or see him to talk about their issues?? And the first time they see each other personally she just runs to his arms without the anger she was supposed to harbor from his “secrets”? I’m so confused with Huntley’s mood swings and back and forth and YES, WE KNOW you aren’t supposed to get emotional entanglements! She just repeated it a thousand times.

Then Ari comes out with his engagement out of the blue. And then these others also want to marry or engaged and suddenly I’m watching or reading a bad soap opera! These kids are 19-23. Why the heck are they all getting engaged and married?? I understand Lorenzo’s reasons but the rest??!

So after she was advised or warned AGAIN to not trust anyone, she just goes and babbles to the First Lady?? Ugh!!

I also find the clues and theories way too repetitive. Jillian May need better editing because a lot is being repeated repetitively. See how annoying it is to read repeated things constantly??

I’m gonna be honest, I’m going to finish this series because I have invested a lot of time to read them and I’m only 2 books left to finish. But I certainly hope it gets less daunting. TBH the author just extended the series too much. I’m gonna start skimming if the facts and theories start all over again.

Well, I love all of Jillian Dodd's work but I was late to discover this series. I read all 4 books before starting this one. So I wasn't like some readers who have been waiting for a while to find out what happens. But now I will be. This one leaves you with a nice big cliff hanger, Thanks Jillian! I hope our wait won't be too long because I am dying to figure out how this all pans out. There are so many secrets to still be figured out and we are on the tip of it all. But most importantly will all these couples actually get married to who they are engaged to?

This is a book you can't read fast and I wouldn't say its a slow pace book either. I had to read it slower to get and understand everything going on. There is a lot going on in this book and it can be every overwhelming to understand but I think Jillian does a great job of explaining it to the readers.

This book is full of secrets being revealed and surprises that the reader discovered. There is character development in characters that aide our girl in her mission. This book is like a piece of puzzle to figuring this whole thing out. Who can you trust? Who is the bad guys? Who is the good guys? Jillian Dodd is a great author / story teller and I love her all of her series because they hook you in and then your a fan for life. I loved this series so far and this book was really great. All the details and the research, she just amazes me. I still have no idea what is next for this series.. But bring it on!

That ending!!!
This newest part of the spy girls series was a roller coaster! So many things all happened, and I’ve gained so much new information about the ‘mystery’. Although Huntley and Lorenzo’s relationship was put on hold, and I felt deeply for Huntley’s hurt and sense of betrayal, it was nice seeing new relationships form and old ones strengthen. For example, Huntley’s supportive friendship with Daniel, where they try to heal each other’s pain. I also like Huntley’s friendship with Peter, and he’s actually being a good friend who supports her. However, even though it’s nice that she’s found a mother figure in Amanda, I’m not sure if she can fully be trusted. Even though many things happened, the ending was shocking! I can’t believe there were such big revelations at the end! I knew that her ‘father’, Blake, was alive and he was the ghost after he saved her life in Iraq, but I had no clue that Ares would be alive and that he was disguised as Uncle Sam!!! I don’t know who to trust anymore! It’s getting more interesting and crazy, and I’m looking forward to reading the next one!

>Book Review – The Dauntless
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 5th in the Spy Girl series and ends in a cliffhanger. Hunter and Lorenzo get married in secret, but publicly engaged to others. Huntley is losing her likability for me. She has ‘G’ rated sleepovers with almost all of her male friends. The book states that she was practically brainwashed by her school to not feel anything emotionally towards others. Her journey in this series tries to tear that wall down. Her actions, while consistent with her training, have a bit of a yuck factor.
>The story has a ton of action and some really interesting locations. The description of a video game, while cool, slowed the story down as everything Hunter went through was described again. The story makes it hard to figure out who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. There are lots of shades of grey. The cliffhanger at the end is HUGE!
>This book is appropriate for a new adult audience. I am giving this story 4 stars. I didn’t like how Hunter gives up on love so easily.

I absolutely love this series and the characters. It’s written with such a flow that the story vividly plays out live in your head as you are reading. I can easily picture each destination and scene because of the amount of detail the author gives us.

So much happened and was revealed in this installment that I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. I felt like this book was a turning point for Huntley, she is finally finding herself and doing things her way. We get to know and fall in love with the other characters this time. Huntley is building relationships and is caring about others in her life (something she was stressed to not do).

Just when you think you might have an idea what is going on or might happen, your mind is blown and another secret is revealed. I was rushing through the last few pages, couldn’t believe what happened. And was left with needing the need book: I can’t wait to see what happens next in Huntley’s world.

As always I loved the latest book by Jillian Dodd.

In this book Huntley decides she has had enough and has gone rogue, she will now be working for herself and getting the answers she wants.

Of course she is successful and we start to uncover more secrets and understand a bit more about the plan that starts in Montrovia, however as one question is answered more pop up in its place.

I was disappointed with the lack of Ari in this book as I like him as a character and it is nice to see Huntley’s interactions with him, so hopefully he will be back in the last two books.

I must say the ending left me shocked and I couldn’t quite believe what had just happened and whilst I started to get ideas as to what it might all mean I am by no means confident that I am correct.

Fully recommend this series if you enjoy action, mystery and romance, they honestly seem to have a bit of everything (:

Wow...just WOW! This series is addictive and this book was a page turner that I couldn't put down from page one. If you are a lover of action packed, what the heck is going on, oh man did that just happen reads...this series is for you. Jillian Dodd does her research and you can tell with the attention she pays to the little details. She also has the natural ability to paint a picture with words. You can see in your mind the places, clothes and people she writes about. And the action scenes, you feel like you are there fighting it out right along with Huntley (who by the way is a female James Bond). And for all the action and plot twist, you still have the romance...that in itself is a twisty road you travel. You MUST read the first 4 books before picking this one up, but what a ride they take you on.

If there was a crown for cliffhangers, Jillian would be the queen. Jillian's books are some of my favorites when I want something fun to read and she never disappoints. The Spy Girl series has so much going on that I just don't know how she keeps everything straight but she does and because of that this could easily be her best yet. You may leave one book with more questions than you went in but you can be sure all will be answered whether in the next book or by the end of the series. This is how she hooks her claws in and has you begging you for more and after the ending of this one that is exactly what all her readers will be doing. We will all be begging and asking relentlessly when the next one will be here. Bravo Jillian and I guess I will wait for the next two as patiently as possible.

I couldn’t wait for this book to come out so I could see what Huntley was going to do after the bomb was dropped on her. I will have to say she shocked me (in a good way!)!

I have fallen in love with Lorenzo and Huntley and Chauncey! They are amazing characters. I wish we could have gotten more of Chauncey.

With each book I fall more for Lorenzo and wish for a happy ending with him and Huntley. But with his mom pushing him to marry Lizzy I’m not so sure who’s going to win. His norm? Or him?

Huntley is a strong, determined woman. She wants to figure out what’s going to happen at the Olympics. But who can she trust?

I’m really enjoying this series I just wish the books were a little closer together so I didn’t feel like I was forgetting things.

Where on earth do I even begin writing this review!?!?! This book... this book left me absolutely speechless.

Like most of her books this left you wanting more. The end of this was something I DID NOT SEE COMING!!! This entire series you will have theories... suspicion... trying to figure out who did what, who is in charge. but the end! HOLY HELL ON WHEELS!

When it comes to series, I always feel skeptical as the first book is always the best and the rest are good, but not great and they don't exceed expectation. This book though... this surpassed what I was expecting and more!

I am already itching for the next one. Itching to know what happens next. I loved this book. and I highly recommend everyone to read this.

Holy cliffhanger Batman! This. Was. Awesome. It’s jam packed with info, so catalog ALL OF IT. What you think you know, you don’t and if you’re like me and obsessed with this series, you may just have your AHA! moment just as the big reveal/cliffhanger is happening. It’s brilliant that an author can both guide you and also still surprise you with twists. I personally prefer reading books that aren’t obvious BUT if you invest in characters/world enough the small, hidden bread crumbs lead you to the plot twists to some extent while still managing to shock you. I’d have liked more Ari in this one, and more about the Queen’s affair..otherwise man..I loved this as much as the first(which is my FAVE!). February 19 is in fact too far!
