The Key of Knowledge

Rate this book

We all know the story of Lazarus. Died and four days later resurrected by Jesus. The story you don't know is what happened those four days in the grave. What happened to Lazarus after he rejoined the living? I'll tell you. When a person dies they become the prize of Azrael, the angel of death. Now, if that prize is taken from him he doesn't take that too kindly. The people that witnessed the miracle of resurrection in that small town of Bethany started to believe in Jesus, and the Pharisee priests could not allow that to happen.

Five priests set out to take the life of Lazarus to set an example to all that Jesus was not who they think he was. By murdering Lazarus, they brought the wrath of Azreal upon them. These priests were cursed for all eternity to protect the knowledge of what really happened those four days inside the body of Lazarus. To protect the essence of the angel of death himself. One cold night while helping her husband with a research dig in Constantinople, Ruina Baxter found the remains of Lazarus himself. What she discovered changed the course of time forever. The battle between Azreal and God inside the body of Lazarus left behind a piece of the angel himself, a Shadow Gem, that can render any human that controls it immortality. The only way to unlock the power of the Shadow Gem is by possessing the five keys of the priests. The Keys of Lazarus.

I received this book from the author for honest Review.

This is not my type of reading but was happy to received this cuz it was so good. Know I have to read more books of his and read more action packed books.

Wow what a surprising read. Couldn’t put it down and enjoyed every minute of it. Has a nice flow right from the end of the other books to this book. Just when I thought it was ending you turned and keep the reader at the edge of their chair.
Keep up the great work. Can’t wait for the next adventure.
I highly recommend this book.

Yesterday I received an ARC of this fantastic tale by @mikelackey23. After reading his debut novel, The Bad Seed, I was looking forward to this book, the first in a series titled The Keys of Lazarus. I was not disappointed in my anticipation.
.
Lucy is a 19-year-old in 2058 United States, which is run by a sinister president, The Countess, who is intent on world domination (of course). Lucy just buried her grandfather, her only family, when she starts getting these ominous notes. Who are these people her Gramps was so close to, what is a Reaper, and how is one young girl with no family supposed to save the US, and by extension the entire world?
.
Mike Lackey has created another fantastic world in which things are never what they appear. I can't decide whether this story should be classified as a dystopian, sci-fi, or fantasy, so I will just put it down as a must-read. I do not know what the release date for this book is, but I will post a reminder for everybody when the release occurs. After all, if we don't support the new upcoming authors, how are they supposed to become the venerable legend of literature?

Lackey has been taking the fantasy world by storm for a while now with the Bad Seed. When you think of the perfect fantasy book to read that's the one you go too. So, when he released a new book I of course had to get it! I have to say that his new release has blown me away. The Key of Knowledge is the first installment to his new series that leaves you wanting and needing more! I read this book in one setting and then I knew what I had to do... I read it again! I highly reccomend getting this book! You will not regret it!

Legends and lore and steam punk galore!

Lucy is a fiery, passionate, loyal young woman trying to untangle the mystery of her destiny. Reeling from the grief of losing her Grandfather,Lucy finds herself sought out by a mysterious stranger who brings her into a group of special people on a mission to eradicate the ultimate evil from the world.
Set in the not so distant future, this story has action, romance, and pulls on The Biblical story of Lazarus to create a world full of secrets and evils that only the chosen few can hope to unravel. I don’t usually read this kind of book but I tore through it in a day and a half. I think it would make an excellent plot for a video game!

If you’ve seen my review for Imperium by Amelia Etchells then you will know why I rated this book so highly. They share a lot of similar attributes that I hunger for while reading books: Action, loss, love, a hero’s journey friendship, and family. The Key Of Knowledge took my breath away and only gave it back so that I could either laugh or cry. Michael’s world building is amazing (I really want a Flo bot now) and his blend of modern, religious, historical and artistic references are so on pointe that it only ends up adding to the futurist atmosphere of the novel. It’s foreign, exotic and alive and yet safely familiar at the same time which only makes you want to spend more time inside the book and nowhere else (Hogwarts anyone?). There were some INSANE plot twists that I’m still recovering from. I’m a slow reader but I finished this novel in 3 days (life and sleep were the only things that stopped me from pulling an all-nighter with this one) I was so in love with it. Lucy is our hero and main protagonist and definitely someone who’s not only relatable but you’ll find yourself cheering for her the same way I did, but as much as I love Lucy (and I do) and the whole team of reapers I think Stan stole my heart the second I met her at Conrad’s grave. I don’t meet older female characters that often who are like her; dedicated, compassionate, kind, funny and bad ass with the ability to keep a cool head when things start heating up. They lack the grit and elegance that she has (or they only possess the elegance but not the grit). If I was ever in a fight I’d want Stan to have my six (Lucy too). Now it’s time for me to gush about Lucy.
She’s more powerful than she knew and when her world falls apart after her Gramps passes away she finds herself putting it back together along with her family of fellow Reapers. It hurt like hell to feel their losses but it only fuelled my desire to see that Ruina (whom I refuse to call The Countess) gets what’s coming to her. I loved watching Lucy struggle to figure things out and it made my heart soar when the time came and she finally embraced and accepted the true power of knowledge. I’m really looking forward to watching her grow even more (but I’m also terrified she’ll die on me at some point). I want to go on but I’ll be here all day if I do (also I didn’t get to Micah because I am all over the place when it comes to him….it’s complicated…just go and read the book, and OMG I didn’t even get to Gerard and James, ugh, I love them both so much). I can’t wait for the next book in the series to be released (but I’ll have to) in the meantime I will highly recommend The Key Of Knowledge to all lovers of YA, Distopian fiction, Steampunk and action/ adventure.

I found myself whisked away, yet again by this futuristic, fantasy world of magic and monsters. Filled with steampunk features and characters that reminded me of Deadpool and Lara Croft, The Key of Knowledge shares how determination and courage can set you on a path to greatness!

Lucy has a past she's unaware of. She's part of a legacy where people around the world, called Reapers, battle against an evil woman who's become president. The Countess is an immortal, using a special stone that allows her to never die. She's equipped with a power to take lives with a simple touch and recreate twisted, dark minions. Quested to seek out enchanted keys, the team of Reapers must obtain them and defeat The Countess. Can they do it? Can they save the world?

The Key of Knowledge is a fast-paced, YA novel that holds your attention. I loved the magic, the fighting and the development of the story. Lackey is a growing author who's writing skills are improving with every book. I look forward to reading the next installment of the series. YES! LOVED this futuristic steampunk world! Absolutely Loved Lucy! But I think I have to say Stan was my favourite! (No I will not tell you where these characters come into place in the story) you will just have to pick it up for yourself! And may I just say it is SO worth picking up! Ha! So go do that right now, drop what you are doing and go pick this book up!

The setting Mike created is brilliant, characters are so freaking awesome and the story all around is amazing! Such a neat concept, this read will not let you down! And will keep you wanting more!

I also have to say the size of this book was perfect. Mike gave you everything you need for an amazing book in a mere 170 or so pages! Not dragging anything on that seems tedious or too drawn out! But gave you just enough to want more, yet not to be disappointed for too little. Very well written!!! Congratulations Mike on this awesome read! And thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Lackey never fails to blow me away with his words, and this book was no exception. it was A M A Z I N G! I loved each and every plot twist as they took place, though the book ended leaving me both screaming and in tears. I had been looking forward to this book ever since I caught word of it, and I was not disappointed. The Key of Knowledge will send you on an emotional roller coaster filled with loss, love, family and no doubt, some shock. Totally recommending all steampunk fans to hop on this train and get a copy now!!!

A teen girl's grandpa dies and she is crushed. She receives some odd notes and meets some people. Turns out her family is 'Ghostbusters' who fight 'The Walking Dead' while looking for 'National Treasure'!

Though teens they are trained in firearms, battles occur. Physical relationship suggested. appears to be no oil or electricity but PLENTY of water to operate steam powered machines. Females where suggestive clothing for their battle encounters, perhaps in hopes of drawing attention?

I absolutely loved this book, and can't wait for the others in this series. It was very engaging, and I was personally identifying with Lucy all the way through. The symbolism is so simple in its complexity that it was refreshing. That truly shows that an author understands the depths of what they write when they are able to give such an entertaining story in some realistic ways. To me, it was a good balance of imagination and realism.
