Heart of Fire
It has been a rough month for mage private investigator Alice Worth.
Alice hasn’t had a decent night’s sleep in weeks, her relationship with werewolf Sean Maclin is on the rocks, a federal agent hounds her every step, and a powerful vampire whose ulterior motives have ulterior motives watches her every move. It’s en...more
I tell myself constantly not to do this to myself, but somehow, when a book’s calling to me…I MUST ANSWER THE CALL. So, I ended up reading one paranormal romance, while listening to another paranormal romance. Both of them were excellent but there’s the slight problem of when I get my magic mixed up. What’s a good move in one book is a VERY BAD, THE WORLD WILL END, move in the other. I was screaming DON’T DO THAT!! (in my head, my boys would send me to the loony bin ...more
What a grand sequel to an amazing debut.
Non-stop action, mystery, magic and bad-assery, the latter of which mainly stemmed from the heroine, Alice. She's my hero. Despite her over-the-top stubbornness and her unwillingness to let anybody in, she's such a fantastic character and role model. I love her loyalty and integrity, as well as her more vulnerable side. And of course, she damn well knows how to kick some butt.
Add in a bunch of perfectly fleshed-out characters, an intricate plot, heaps of d ...more
Alice is called in to help find “working girls” that have disappeared. Along the way she runs into a whole host of complications. Some that were completely heart breaking. Alice continues to resist the help or assistance of anyone other than Malcolm. When Sean suddenly reappears in her life she is determined to keep him at a distance but the chemistry between these two can’t be denied.

Of course secrets can only be squeezed so much when you have people you love and need to protect, because like blood secrets must out.
Yeah I know not the most original story line but it was well written and engaging enough that made me want to read the next book.
Great Book Lisa!
Alice is growing away from the loner she was when we first met her. She is still guarded and wary of accepting help, but she is slowly opening herself up to others. We continue to learn more about her past and unfortunately her past is slowly creeping closer to her new life. As soon as you think you have a handle on what she can do, another level of power is revealed. She truly is a bad-ass and it's amazing to witness what she ...more
Alice is going through a very rough patch. She and Sean have broken up after a ridiculous fight and she refuses to acknowledge what happened in book 1 has affected her and brought back memories of the past. When her former employer Mark calls to ask her hel ...more
In Heart of Fire, Alice deals with relationships - as well as the main plot of the story, which is to find out what has happened to all these kidnapped women. She is slowly learning that she is building a family of choice, and that she can h ...more
* I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Alice is on the hunt for missing women. It appears that vampires are behind it but Alice thinks differently. Can she figure it all out and keep herself alive.
This is book 2 in the series and I haven't read book 1 but was able to follow most of the background. It's fairly spread out so does take a little bit to figure out. This has a main plot and then a subplot linked to the first story which I didn't understand until ...more
A few things - I was worried where the romantic story line was going and getting a bit frustrated with it, some of that has been cleared up in this book thankfully. We also have a lot of unanswered plot points but we did find out more abo ...more
In this one, undesirable people have been disappearing for over a year, and when it hits the media, of course the vampires are blamed, so Alice ends up working the case to find the missing people.
And one of the best leading characters. Alice is strong, very powerful mage who’s been shattered by her experiences growing up and now isn’t quite sure how to be human. She’s trying, though, and is learning to accept help from new friends. This book has her caught between her old life and her new one, and wondering if she can allow herself to need or trust other people. Meantime she’s got a difficult and very dangerous investigation to handle and it will t ...more
Good Solid Read
Warning: This review may contain spoilers.
On face value Heart of Fire is a better novel than it's predecessor - diving head first into the action and starting to peel back the layers of Alice and just want she really is capable of. Unfortunately this book is simultaneously been held back and strangled by all the relationship drama. Alright we want to have the tension and drama between Alice, Sean and Charles, but then two more players are introduced.

I do believe I liked this book even more than I liked the first in the series, and I liked that one a lot.
Alice Worth is a Mage Private Investigator who bought herself a new identity after faking her own death 5 years before. She escaped her Grandfather’s cabal (a magical mob) after being tortured and forced to kill from the time she was 6 years old, after her grandfather killed her parents. She was taught to be secretive, ruthless and deadly.

Absolutely terrific. A case of disappearing "working" girls is disregarded by the police and the press push the theory that the girls have become food for vamps. She and her old mentor think differently and try to find evidence of who is behind it. Alice has her eye on West but proving it could be difficult. Plus there are two new drugs on the streets that are causing havoc. Not only do they enhance a users natur ...more
I have a love/hate relationship with this book. Also I want it to be known that the book really deserves 4 stars, but it personally failed me in to big a way. I love Alice I think she is a great cheater. I loved the plot I think it was awesome how the author brought it all together. I think it would be cool to delve more into Alices magic. The reason for the two stars is because the rediculous romance. I don't like the insta love with Sean, or lake, or Charles. The author fa ...more
You know what? I read this book with a lot of stress....just because how Lisa Edmonds played with my heart on the romance part!
Alice Worth is clearly an interesting character. While these Alice Worth series have all thing paranormal going on with Alice as a supernatural detective, her shifter lover, Ghost side-kick, evil demons and so on it is actually all about Alice herself. Alice has secrets and haunting past and she guards them with layers and layers of half-truth and lies I wi ...more
Alice is a strong, mature character--a nice combination. The pacing was fairly slam-bang, here--I kept coming back to the story when I had plenty of other things I should have been doing. I think this is a very strong 3 and a half stars--I'll buy the next in the series as soon as I'm able. Was very happy that Alice chose one of the many men who hankered after her, and for all the best reasons--but the story spent too much time, imho, on Everybody Wants Alice stuff. She started feeling, ...more
