Shayla Black is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 100 contemporary, erotic, paranormal, and historical romances. Her books have sold millions of copies and been published in a dozen languages.
As an only child, Shayla occupied herself by daydreaming, much to the chagrin of her teachers. In college, she found her love for reading and started pursuing a publishing career. Though she graduated with a degree in Marketing/Advertising and embarked on a stint in corporate America, her heart was with her stories and characters, so she left her pantyhose and power suits behind.
Shayla currently lives in North Texas with her wonderfully supportive husband, her daughter, and two spoiled tabbies. In her “free” time, she enjoys reality TV, gaming, and listening to an eclectic blend of music.
It requires a HUGE amount of willing suspension of disbelief for the initial premise. If a stranger came into your house in the middle of the night, cuffed you to your bed and blindfolded you, I'm sorry to say that you would NOT wake up thinking "Oh goody! I haven't had sex in 2 years. Great opportunity for me." You would be screaming bloody murder and scared out of your wits.
I usually let things slide, but that was so utterly ridiculous, even *I* had a hard time getting past it.
Once you get past that crazy premise, the story is actually quite good and sexy.
HOT. DAMN!!! Naughty Little Secret was even hotter than I remembered.
This book hit all the right spots (and I mean that literally...the heroine's g-spot got quite a workout.) It also had all the things I like in a romance: ✔ Unrequited love (one of my FAVORITE tropes!!) ✔ Actual plot! ✔ Super steamy but the sex served a purpose
Yeah, the whole "having sex with a stranger" was pretty creeptastic but this was acknowledged in the book. And also, it was what made the sex hot. Bear with me please.
Noah fell in love with Lauren when he met her on her wedding...to one of his friends. (AWWW!!!) He never forgets her and when he realizes the marriage isn't happy, he bides his time. They get divorced, he gives her a job and two years later, the man cannot wait to makes his move. She's pretty hurt by her marriage and he decides that instead of asking her out like a normal guy, he pretend to be a secret admirer who breaks into her house to sex her up.
I know, I know. It's super creepy. However, everybody in the book who learns of this acknowledges said creepiness. In fact, whenever she gets notes/gifts from her "admirer", Noah happens to be around and always comments on how creepy the whole thing and asks her if they should beef up security. Lauren answers in the negative because she's pretty happy that SOMEONE is looking at her sexually. And the very first time he shows up in her house, she realizes what a fool she's been and is pretty frightened. After a while though, he calms her down and after demonstrating his tongue skills she's pretty much like:
Even though there's a lot of sex in this book, it's not actually kinky. What makes it super hot is the whole "stranger" angle and how crazy he was about her. Oh and all those moves too!! ;) That scene when he showed her who he was, was hot as hell:
But don't think this is all sexy times. We get to see them outside of the bedroom in key pivotal scenes that showcase who they are: Working in an important project at work, him inviting her to his house as a friend with her two kids, them going to lunch and he asking for advice about this woman he wanted to marry (her of course, but she's totally clueless.) In fact, how she didn't know it was him was beyond me. It wasn't as if she didn't have any clues!
And the romance! Noah has been crazy in love with her for 10 years and is ready for marriage and babies (and before you ask, he actually asks her if she wants to have more.) When he confesses his love is both sexy and swoon worthy:
If you like some steam in books (and don't mind the creeper angle), you might want to give this one a try.
I really liked this book. I love the best friends turn into lovers storyline. This book was so much fun to read. The determination that Noah has to win Lauren's heart and body was tremendously sexy!
Lauren is afraid of getting hurt. Burned by a bad marriage, she is afraid of her attraction and growing feelings for her boss and her ex-husband's best friend, Noah. Watching him go on countless dates with the next favor of the month makes her crazy. He is attracted to the cookie-cutter/model type women that she is not. Knowing he will never find her attractive she is feeling down on herself. When she receives a erotically suggestive note by a stranger she is surprised and compelled to be spontanious and meet up with the mystery secret admirer...even if it infuriates Noah.
Lauren is driving Noah crazy! Between her negative attitude about herself, and he inability to see the love he has for her in her face, he decides to resort to extreme measures. Send a suggestive note, break into her house and seduce her without her knowing it is him...great plan until it works. Now, she doesn't see him at all anymore. She just wants her mystery man...what's a desperate guy to do???
This book had some very erotic as well as funny moments in it. I loved the relationship that developed between Noah and Lauren. There were times I wanted to shake Lauren and say "Wake Up!" but, otherwise I loved this book
If you are offended by strong language and explict sexual relationships, this book is not for you.
Bradley/Shayla Black sure can write HAWT sex scenes.
If this was more an appetizer, I could treat it as mindless smut and rate it 4stars, as I did with Shiloh Walker's Whipped Cream and Handcuffs which basically had the same premise: a secret admirer breaks in and has blindfolded/tied-up sex with the heroine.
However, at 212 pages this is more of an entree course and during the longer reading time, I couldnt help being squicked out that the heroine had no idea who was nailing her to the mattress but okayed having sex without condoms to her stranger stalker secret admirer on his word that he was clean.
A lot of other things didnt make sense either but logic isnt Bradley's strong point. But the sex scenes? Still hawt. Her stories need to be shorter though so I dont have to tax my wee brain about it. Mindless smut = short attention span = good.
Naughty Little Secret was a stand-alone by Shayla Black.
Lauren Southall was recently divorced with two girls. After the divorce she returned to the work force. Her boss was a long time friend to her ex-husband. She secretly crushed on him, but the relationship was purely professional.
Noah Reeves had silently crushed on his best friend’s wife for ten years. He had watched from a distance, biding his time, knowing that the marriage was on a downward turn. When the divorce happened, he kept her close by hiring her, but waiting for the right time. It had now been two years and he was making his move.
How Noah approached Lauren was an odd premise but it worked for a short and sexy storyline. It was told with a double POV, but started primarily with Lauren’s to set the stage, then the author alternated between the two. It was predictable with the expected outcome, but enjoyable none the less. Although the storyline focused on the chemistry between, Black also included a business plot, adding dimension to the storyline.
All in all, it was quick, sexy and a good, light hearted afternoon read.
This was a highly improbable premise. Someone breaks into my home... Ties me up... And literally f*cks me into submission. I don't call the police I eventually tell my sister. My sister said that I'm crazy probably because I am And I can't figure out he was done this to me. And oh yeah I'm in love with my boss. And it turns out that he is in love with me too. But you guessed it's a dirty little secret. Somehow someway this all worked out Very hot sex scenes. Been warned!! 5 stars two for story and three for those hot sex scenes.
I I'm rereading this book for the second time. I read this years ago and thought it was pretty good, but just learned the author is Shayla Black. I liked it again the second time, though I thought the female MC was a bit annoying. She was attracted to her boss, who was also her ex's friend. But when confronted with the fact that he was attracted to her too, she was so over the top about denying it. He was great, she was not.
Two years after divorcing her non-exsistent husband, Lauren Sothall has fallen desperatly in lust with her boss and ex-husbands good friend Noah Reeves. Noah has a reputation of a love em and leave them type, and Lauren is far from a one night stand type of girl. Conflicted by her feelings for him, Lauren continues to fantasize about him until a seductive letter shows up on her desk.
Noah has been waiting ten years for Lauren, loving her the first moment he met her. Trying to push past the barriers that Lauren has sheltered herself with Noah decides to pursue her in an unconvential manner, making love to her as a secret admirer before revealing his true feeligns to her, the biggest question out there is will it work.
Not sure why it sat on my TBR for so long, it really shouldn't have. Loved it, every single morsel was delicious fun.
This was a really good story. I loved Noah and Lauren; the attraction between them sizzled and the sex scenes were pretty hot. I liked how Noah thought outside the box to get Lauren to realize her feelings for him, though I understood Lauren’s reaction when she found out her Mr. Mysterious was the man she’s been pining over for years. At times, it was annoying how distrustful Lauren was due to her divorce, but I found it didn’t detract too much from the overall story. I couldn’t wait for them to get their happily ever after.
I was going to give this 4 stars, but I had to knock one off because Lauren got on my nerves for way too many pages. "I want to believe he loves me. He says he loves me, but if he does X that means he doesn't love me, and if he doesn't do that same X it means he doesn't love me, but I love him and he says he loves me, but there's no way he loves me..." Seriously, just shut up and love the man! Other than that, this was a cute love story and hot sex! This was my first real experience with erotica, and I think I'll have to seek out some more. ;)
I would like to quote a review by reader Penny Watson that describes exactly how I felt with this book:
"It requires a HUGE amount of willing suspension of disbelief for the initial premise. If a stranger came into your house in the middle of the night, cuffed you to your bed and blindfolded you, I'm sorry to say that you would NOT wake up thinking "Oh goody! I haven't had sex in 2 years. Great opportunity for me." You would be screaming bloody murder and scared out of your wits."
Putting that aside, the writing style was good, even the story gets sexy and sweet. I can't give it 5 stars, but like I said, if you put aside the waking up cuffed and blindfolded part, the story was good, so 4 stars it is.
This was hardly the best book I've ever read, and it succeeded in making me supremely uncomfortable in a few areas. A stranger coming into your house to seduce you? Yeah, heebie-jeebies...though I did enjoy the characterization of Noah and Lauren, and while this was a book I could easily put down for days at a time, I was interested enough to see how the leading characters would come together. The sex scenes are explosive, but get a little redundant after a while. Overall, an entertaining read.
3.5 stars. This story is really hot and very much a fantasy type of plot where you have to suspend your disbelief to buy into it, otherwise it does not bode well in reality. Noah has been waiting for his chance to pursue Lauren and now that she's been single for nearly 2 years, it's time to make his move, albeit in an unconventional way. He seems to think it's the only way to get her to notice him as more than a friend of her ex or her boss. The fact that he'd been pining after her for so long and was so consumed to claim her is rather sexy and flattering for Lauren. For the sake of a steamy read, this one hit the spot.
20% - Okay, this premise is insanely unbelievable. Like, should I continue? Probably not, but Shayla Black (aka Shelley Bradley) writes hot smut so I'm giving it a go despite my misgivings. I mean, it starts off all stalkerish/rapey on the hero's part, and reeeeally stupid on the heroine's part. I'm not sure if there's going to be any redeeming these characters for me after the beginning, you know? When it's both of them who are annoying, I feel like it's going to be hard to find anyone to latch onto here. But hey, free audiobooks from the library are free. ;-)
More spoilery stuff now: The heroine is an idiot. Like, a real life idiot even though she's fictional. She should end up with AIDS or chlamydia at the least, since she lets an unknown man fuck her without a condom. Like, she AGREES to it without knowing who he is, after he's broken into her house, blindfolded her and cuffed her to her bed, because he said he was clean, even though his identity is hidden from her. No, really. And he thinks it's cool to do this. That he loves her, so it's fine for him to break in and have sex with her without letting her know it's him. Because sure, that's what people do. Except it's not, unless those people are criminals. Honest to God criminals with the entering (he used a hidden key so I guess it's not technically breaking and entering, just unlawful entry) and ... what's it called when you tie someone up in their own home? Not kidnapping, not abduction, but I'm sure there's a law against it. False imprisonment may be? ;-) Oh, and having sex with her. She did agree -- because she's a freakin' idiot -- so I suppose it's not rape. But really, if she weren't an idiot? He'd definitely be a rapist.
Deah Gott, it's possible I've just talked myself into DNFing this one by writing this down. Time will tell. It's one of those books that make me want to make Goodreads shelves like "WTF How Is This Even A Thing" and the like.
ETA: I mistakenly returned the book on Hoopla, so even though I'd basically abandoned it, that sealed the deal and I'm DNFing it at 20%.

This was actually a pretty good quick little trashy read. As most trashy little reads tend to go, there is a wounded and innocent female protagonist and the hot, playboy who is willing to take the time necessary to coax the innocence out of her.
This book has a twist that is fun and exciting for the characters and the reader. Lauren is the divorced mother of 2 children. Her husband was a bastard and never gave her any attention and did everything to push her away until she finally divorced him. Then there is the smokin' hot Noah--who also happens to be her ex-husband's good friend and her boss. Now that she is over her divorce, he is doing everything in his power to woo her...even though somewhat unconventional. You are asking yourself: what is unconventional? He dresses like a cat burglar, ties her to the bed and gives her the best sex of her life--of-course she thinks he is some random guy but imagines that he is Noah...the rest is history.

(This was originally published in paperback in 2006. The kindle version has a new cover and has been re-edited).
Lauren has been lusting after her friend and boss Noah in the two years since her divorce. She feels he doesn't notice her even when she wears sexy clothes. Then someone leaves a sexy note on her chair at work and so begins her escapades with Mr Mysterious who is in fact Noah (this is no spoiler!). The story is very far fetched, unbelievable that she wouldn't know it was Noah. He uses his voice everytime he is Mr Mysterious and its a rasping whisper but still Lauren doesn't recognise him! Noah has loved Lauren for years but knows she is untrusting since her divorce as she sees him as a love 'em and leave 'em type! This is why he chooses to seduce her first as Mr Mysterious.
The book has plenty of hot sex scenes and despite having to suspend disbelief at the storyline, it is good escapism and I thoroughly enjoyed it and would heartily recommend as I would recommend Shelley's other books under the pen name "Shayla Black". Glad to see her releasing to kindle as her paperbacks are expensive.
While I am a HUGE fan of Shelley Bradley/Shayla Black! She has a special talent when it comes to writing erotica's that leave you breathless, hot and panting for more. While I enjoyed this book, I don't see it as great as her other books. I loved the characters when it was just Noah and Lauren. When it was Lauren and Mr. Mysterious, it seemed more like a stalker doing bad things to a woman. I couldn't believe that Lauren found it exciting and sexy when Mr. Mysterious shows up at her apartment while she sleeps, handcuffs her to her bed and has sex with her after waking her up. Me, personally, I would have screamed bloody murder and yelled rape! Yet, Lauren finds it exciting and sensual. Noah needed to just face Lauren head on instead of coming across as a stalker at night. When they bantered and worked together during the day you could feel the sexual tension and need they both felt.
While I am still a huge fan of this author, and will continue to read whatever she comes out with, I didn't feel this book was one of her best.
This 2006 book has just been released as a kindle version (with new cover and re-edited).

I really thought this book was going to be fun, but as I read I found myself getting turned off. I did like the secret way that Noah went after Lauren, but what made me stop reading was how Noah kept questioning the secret man that was pursuing Lauren and then using that knowledge to alter what he was doing as the secret man. I felt like it betrayed an implied trust between the two of them. In the end, this one just wasn't for me.
I just really get annoyed with "masked" hero/heroine's I mean come on you see this man everyday you've been friends for over 10 years..... but you don't know that it is him F***ing you????
But if you can forget that one little flaw it is a great erotica with a perfect HEA.
Ok, so a masked man comes into your house while you sleep and you don't call the police? Really? The story was ok, but totally unrealistic. I know it's only a book, but come on!
I thought that this was really sweet. I can't believe she didn't know who Mr. Mysterious was though. Definitely hot, I liked that the characters were a bit older. Very sweet HEA as well. :)
I usually really enjoy Shelley Bradley's work but I am sad to say that I really didn't enjoy this particular book as much as her others. The main reasons being that I just found the entire Mr Mysterious-suduction technique story completely ridiculous! Now, I am not a novice to reading romance novels and I realise that a lot of them aren't based in reality a lot of the time with the actions and reactions that go on, but this particular plot line was just ridiculous. I had in my head that the story was going to go one way and was looking forward to that but was stunned and so disappointed when it went down the 'oh-you'can't-be-serious!' path
I also found that Lauren really got on my nerves in the end with her continuous and stubborn mind set about Noah/marriage/kids/love etc... it just got too repetitive and frustrating where I felt like I wanted to reach into the pages of the story and shake/slap her a couple of times...
On a positive note though, this book hasn't put me off reading more of Bradley's work as I do really enjoy some of the other pieces she has published..
This is a miscommunication trope - and it's frustrating. But there's LOTS of sex and it's HOT!!!
Noah(40-ish) has been in love with Lauren(30-ish, mom, divorced) since she married his BFF. When she finally divorced his friend, he decided to hire her to work for him. He's tried to give her time to recover from the divorce, but instead of just asking her out like a normal person, he decides to break into her house and fuck her.
Lauren is in love with her boss, Noah, but she only thinks of him as a whore who dates Barbie types. When she gets a note from a stranger, she's ready to accept the good dicking he has to offer.
If these two idiots had just been honest with their feelings like adults, we wouldn't have the hot stranger mystery sex. Anyway - the truth comes out - feelings are hurt - sad stuff - then HEA.
Like I said - the sex is hot.
Audio: I def suggest reading instead of listening. The audio isn't bad, but her voice for the male POV is not good.
Since this book is just over 200 pages, it is a really quick read.
I loved the entire fantasy that went along with the characters almost getting together. It was really hot and steamy. Really well written and it was a page turner. Very creative on the author's part.
The only reason I didn't give it a perfect rating because I found the reason for the characters not getting together quicker to be boring and really drawn out. I can get frustrated with some female characters and just wish that authors would come up with more creative ways for a relationship not getting together rather than the same old "previous bad relationship has doomed me to be with any other man again" syndrome. Ugh!
Huge fan of Shayla Black/Shelley Bradley just not a huge fan of this story.
