74 books12 followersKenneth Edward Untener (August 3, 1937 – March 27, 2004) was a Roman Catholic bishop, serving the Diocese of Saginaw from 1980 until his death.
In 1999, Bishop Ken Untener of the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw decided to create a Little Black Book, which would use the prayer tradition of Lectio Divina to help people pray the Passion of Our Lord. Besides an English version of the book, there was also a Spanish edition, and a children’s book (Little Purple Book).
Although Bishop Untener died in 2004, he remains the inspiration for the Little Books. His Little Books staff continue to produce Little Books each year for the Advent/Christmas, Lent and Easter seasons, based on Bishop Untener’s writings. They are also producing four Stewardship books in light of the four Gospels.

I wish that Bishop Ken could have been a "waiter" much longer than the time given him on this earth. Gratefully, this collection of some of his sermons remains, along with the Little Book series that he created. Bishop Ken was a humble man, whose words contain many "pearls" that inspire a more spiritual, prayerful life focused on gratitude and helping others.

A String of Gems
Although each short story entertains, there are many that touch us at the exact moment in our life when we most need it. Thinking back, I suppose you could read this perpetually and a different gem may touch the heart on any given day.

This book was a gift from Pat Hoyt, my bff from HS. She always finds THE most inspirational books for me. This book is a collection of homilies by a very down to earth bishop from Michigan. I read it fast; now I’m going to go back and read just one a day.
