Tate James is undeniably a great writer, but I sometimes have a few issues with what she's actually writing.

So Rybet is suddenly shoved into masquerading as a noblewoman. Fine. But considering her life depends on it, shouldn't she, you know, put a bit more effort into it? Try to blend in a little bit? Instead of casually doing things she KNOWS are going to blow her cover but just literally not caring. It's almost as if she constantly wants to be caught out.

I am beyond baffled as to how this book has such a high rating on Goodreads. When I read the synopsis of this book, I was thrilled. It's exactly the kind of book I look for. Strong female protagonist, fantasy setting, sexy men, a challenge. However, it suffered from so many basic problems from the beginning that I found zero enjoyment in this book.

1) The world building: it is incredibly vague and thinly conceived...a kingdom that suffered "The Darkness," flooding and plagues due to anger
Second time read & review

Just like the first time around, I crushed through this book. I loved absolutely everything about Rybet.. or should I call her Calla? I feel like this time around, I definitely knew more about what was going on. Perks of reread I guess?

That being said, I will continue to be super proud of myself for knowing who was who when it came to secret identities. I was freaking out when she realized it towards the end. I mean, she only knows about one guy.. but I'm sure she can pu

Just a heads up, this is an unpolished, scathing review, and I feel justified in sharing it, because this book is a complete knockoff of a great book.

While I was reading this book I kept having deja vu. It was almost like I had already read it... because I did. This book is a ripoff of Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass. Throne of Glass: You have a young girl with a hidden past who was found and raised by a ruthless assassin. Now a young woman, the girl enters into a competition at the castle that h

HOLY MIND FUCKERY! Omg, this is a book to get excited about. Tate has a struck again with this series starter and you will be sucked into the vortex of this world full of mystery, intrigue, games, drama, murder, and lust so fast your head will spin. Rybit is a thief and through an unfortunate incident has been thrown into the royal court. Girlfriend has to fake it to make it and someone is out to get her. Its soooo good and all I have let to say is hurry up with the next book Tate, please and th ...more

Surprisingly this book was better then I'd expected, however it did start off a little slow which cause a delay in getting through it but I should have known better the author Tate James would come through in the end!!!

Can't wait to jump into book 2..

This book counts towards my RHR Bingo challenge: “Flirty Womanizer ”.

Cliffhanger ending.

Ok, so if you like to be surprised when reading a book, I wouldn’t recommend this. The ‘plot twist’ - not even sure if I should call it that - is obvious from the very first chapters, and honestly there’s no way the main character would be so clueless...

At the same time, this book was so damn entertaining! Three princes? Trials? Magic? Fights and intrigue and politics? I like all of those things!! I just wish it was longer, with some scenes and relationships being better developed.

This book is p
After failing to retrieve her friend from the castle dungeons-young mercenary and pickpocket, Rybet from the Pond, is thrown into a trail to become the next Queen. However, keeping her identity a secret and not falling for the three princes isn't the only thing she has to worry about...

the good and the bad spoilers---

The good:
I did like the trials- the tests were well rounded and interesting. I also liked the political intrigue, and I'm wondering what the repercussions are for after. I know that

Man oh man was this good! This book had been sitting in my "currently reading" shelf for like two weeks before I actually started it. And I really honestly have no idea why I took so long to start it. Because I seriously LOVED the Kit series. It is my favorite RH series of all time. I really don't know if anything will ever beat it out of the top spot. So, why did I wait so long to start this? Honestly, I was scared, probably. I don't know. Lol. But like I loved Kit and her boys so much that I h ...more

What a bloody brilliant book! I couldn't put this down and was totally hooked on Rybet's story. I will admit she is a little dense but I'll give her a hall pass because of all the people out for her blood. The men in this are winners and it would be impossible to choose a favourite. And OMG that ending!

Wow! I loved this!

This is going in my top favorite collection. Not for the romance....yet. (I see the potential with the romance though.) This book is going in my top favorites because yes, the story was that good. I think Kate Daniels fans may love this! Read the preview and see what you think.

Wow I wasn’t expecting this so be so dark and dangerous and twisted! Great start of to this series. This book was both surprising and entertaining. The royal trials are no joke.

Our FMC Rybet/Calla/Luna/Lo, an orphan raised in the slums called “the pond” by basically the area’s bandit king, has stepped off in a huge royal mess. The Royal Trials are an age old tradition gathering all the eligible maidens to the castle to participate in games to marry a prince....sounds pretty Cinderella story rig

Once again misled by the questionable above average rating on this book.

The worldbuilding was pretty terrible. I couldn't figure out what setting I was in. The dialogue and language in the book conflicted with the setting. Word use such as "babe," "work it, girl," "hard-ons," "whatever," and on and on. It really threw me out of the setting that the author created as a world with a monarchy and balls and masks and swordplay. The author also touched on technology but did little to expand on the ty
Man, oh man! This book is a doozy! I loved it so very much and was super upset to see that I have to wait for book 2! I am now dying for book 2! Tate’s ability to paint this new world is amazing and I found myself sucked into this book immediately, as in read the whole thing in under 24 hours. Ugh, so good! The trails themselves are a glimpse into a world of deceit and trickery. The entire idea of these trails is about control and misdirection. The secrets that this “Pond Scum” of Lady imposter ...more

Damn damn damn!!! soo good I was hooked and just read this in a few hours. While I could guess a lot of things as it seemed pretty obvious I still enjoyed the way it got to the answers. That ending just has me needing to pick up the next book kinda wish I waited till they were all out but I am not very patient.

This book was fire.

Rybet is a citizen of the Pond, the watery slum that surrounds the castle. When her pickpocketing mentee is caught, Rybet’s only thought is to break into the castle and recuse him from the royal dungeons.

While there, Rybet is caught and inadvertently dragged into the Princes’ Trials - three weeks of trials and challenges that would determine a bride for each of the three princes. Now going by Lady Callaluna, Rybet has no choice but to go forward.

“How could I ever love a royal who allowed his people to suffer just so he might experience beauty on his own doorstep? No, I am certainly not here for the princes of Teich, and I will happily walk away if I'm eliminated.”

Oh my goodness! The heroine! I love, love, love her. She's like a firecracker, she curses (which I love, yes, because it's refreshing), she has a spine of her own and does not hold back, and most of all, she's a heroine with a big H. Absolutely epic, and I can't wait to read th

I really loved this book, it was a bit predictable at times but it didn't bother me at all. And that ending is just brutal! I need the second book like yesterday!

Yes Tate James! Just Yes! I love Tate James, her Kit Davenport series is amazing and it's one of my favorites. I was super excited when she announced that this was going to be her next project and I couldn't wait for it. The wait is worth it. It may not replace Kit and her men but it doesn't mean that I didn't love this and enjoy this!

Rybet a.k.a Lady Callaluna - She's amazing! I can't wait to keep reading about her and when she grows into the true kick-ass women she's meant to be...this world

I swear everything you write turns to gold. This was SO GOOD. It had that whole Bachelor vibe but darker with a twist of magic and THREE gorgeous swoon worthy princes. Come ON. So good.

Calla and her harem are to die for. I will say, I guessed the first twist right and I have a strong feeling I know the second twist but it’s not predictable in a bad way. I know the genre and I’ve read A LOT of books so I tend to pick up on the little things. But even with that being said this

Despite this being a super easy read it does have a number of interesting and intriguing aspects; the trials themselves, the history of Ophelia, her daughter & the plague, the politics & sceheming, then of course there is the romance which is so easy to consume, it’s like breathing. The ‘twist’ is very obvious, in fact it was clear from the very beginning, I wouldn’t even call it a twist but it was still enjoyable to read. I’m straight onto the next one.

Favorite of 2018!

Imposter, for me, was the ultimate escape. It had ALL the things:

- A feisty, fierce, intelligent, and kindhearted heroine
- Caring, and oh so sexy, love interests
- Humor
- Surprises - all throughout
- Evil villains
- High Stakes

Pure reading pleasure from start to finish. One of my favorite reads of the year. I am SO ready for book 2!

2.5* right in the middle of average.

First of all I am SO CONFUSED as to why this has so many 5 star reviews and such a high overall rating. It's not awful, but nothing about it is a 5 star read??
Anyway. To be fair I picked this up because I was in the mood for some YA trash and it looked like The Selection (which I enjoyed) and I checked the reviews and they were great (???). So I guess it delivered on that front, because it is the same type of trashy read, I just didn't think it was very well e

I had a rough week. I was sick and in a lot of pain and therefore I asked in a Reversed Harem group for recommendations. When I mentioned that I was totally into royals and fantasy, this was the book that was named the most and luckily for me, Amazon had a one day delivery. So yesterday it arrived at my doorstep and today I could start reading right away.

And this was indeed exactly the kind of book I wanted and had asked for. It was an easy and quick read with characters that were not that layer
