This author's style/choices may not be for me.

The story idea is good. Soulmates, Darkness and Light are being reborn over and over again. The 'original' pair was too powerful, so the ruling body destroyed them and all magic wielders born from then on. They seek each other out, like two halves of a whole. If one dies before they meet, the other invariably does too and the cycle starts all over again. Kai is the latest embodiment of Darkness, Nalini is his Light.

They meet briefly when very young, N

I like the world building and the premise. The writing was fine. It's just not for me right now.
Two children born several years apart- both discovered early they have something inside them that normal people fear and loathe. They seperately learn to survive. In time Kai grows to be the fiercest warlord in the galaxy- conquering planets no less. Nalini? By hiding her true feelings while allowing her powers to be enslaved and used by another warlord.

They're destined to be together because Kai without Nalini means utter darkness and destruction to life as we know it. But together they bring b

I liked this story. It has its flaws, but the characters really made it for me. I do enjoy a good space adventure.

I knew going in that this was a steamy romance going in. No problem.

But here's the thing: this book took it's sweet time establishing the characters. Then the romance hits out of nowhere, the one sex scene is graphic for the sake of shock value, then the real intriguing part of the plot starts to play out as it ends.

I think the best thing about it was the narration by Shane East & Ava Erikson and that's the reason this gets 2.5 stars rounded up. What a shame. This could have really been ama

I'm not necessarily a sci-fi lover but once I saw this gorgeous cover, I had to read this book. And it was everything. I went in not knowing what to expect at all and now I crave more. May Sage created an intricate and beautiful story with extremely lovable characters, her writing style is unique, so very compelling and she won me over.

Reign started out a little confusing, I had to get used to Sage's writing and of the way she introduces a new chapter but once I got into it, which was about 2 c

I really disliked the writing style where the author gave away next chapters by placing not so clever hints at the end of previous chapter. The book contained every cliche known to man, mixed together without rhythm nor rime and I couldn’t contain rolling my eyes. Regretted wasting my time.

The beginning really intrigued me into keep reading because I wanted to know more of Kai and Nalini and how the prophecy would play out. At first, the was a little confusion because the story would change tenses, as in focus on past events and the present time intermittently, but once I got the hang of the storytelling, it was very entertaining seeing both Kai and Nalini's adventure to basically saving people and the worlds/universe from the bad guys. Reading about their different paths and obst ...more

**some spoilers ahead with adult content**

I wrote a long review and pressed the wrong button and nothing saved and I'm tired.

I didn't enjoy this book. It had all the elements that should have reeled me in and kept me in place: space! Spaceships! Magic! Psychic abilities! But the writing style made me so sullen that in the end i was just numbly turning pages.

I think the final straw was the anal sex scene with no mention of lube, magical or otherwise.

I do want to try another of the author's bo

Full disclaimer I found this plot hole-y af.

That’s usually like a 2/3 star kind of situation for me but in this case a) anything set in space tickles my cold dead heart and b) I thought the characterization of Kai was pretty good. And he’s got some feminist leanings so word up on that.

Those things put together plus a scrappy heroine entertained me a lot. There are definitely plot issues that pulled me out of the story a few times so if you’re a stickler for that you’ll prob want to skip this o

DNF at 68%.
This one is so full of plot holes that I could see my Kindle's insides while reading.
And I was willing to let is slide. I mean, it's a romantic book. It's like expecting to hear something interesting from the pizza guy in a porn movie. No, he's the fucking pizza guy, he has dick, that's enough. But where was the bloody romance here, damn it? The two characters (pretty much the only existing characters by the 68% of this book) gave each other boners because... because they were both ve

So much potential and such a great idea, but May's writing is just not there. Also, the book was barely romantic at all and then suddenly there was a rimjob and a metal dildo shoved up her ass. Whoa. Talk about escalating quickly. It went from space opera to erotica so fast I was like, did I accidentally click onto a different book in my Kindle? And trust me, I love erotica. Hell, I love a good rimjob and dildo up the ass. But this was so unexpected and out of place compared to the rest of the b ...more

Can't wait for more

As always, Ms Sage delivers. I'd have liked it if they got together sooner, but I get why it happened as it did. I loved the idea of this book being the origin of all her universes and cant wait for more.

Really enjoyed this story. Thank you Ms Sage, I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series now.

This is a romance between embodiments of Light and Darkness and this tale brings together the two after millennia of mismatches. The true nature of the relationship between the H, h and other characters does not become clear until the end of the book and it takes a long time for the H and the h to come together but the journey to get there is worth it.

Trying to find words to formulate a coherent review, but I find I'm reduced to bullet points. I guess that's how my brain works.

Liked, in no particular order:
- the way the romance didn't drag on FOR.EH.VER. with flowerly-ass descriptions of every single feel. Oh lookey, characters who act like and are treated like people by their author.
- immortal wolf pack
- Evil the Neko (!!! Japanese for cat !!!)
- hapless hero and his predestined mate, tho they weren't typical whiny babies, thank fuck
- no, lov

I've read a number of other books by May Sage, and this one is probably going to become my favorite. It is space fantasy, not something I often read, but now I have a taste of it. It's longer than her previous books, and the characters are more involved.

The main characters are Kai and Nalini. These two have been connected since a young age, in ways neither fully realize. You get to see their origins fully developed as well as what they become, seeming like well rounded, dynamic characters.

This was a wonderful space fantasy novel with the works. It has tons of magic, war, politics, prophecies, and love. Kai and Nalini give me all the feels. I really loved Kai because he is a very harsh person who is willing to do anything to fight for what he believes in. When he is saved by Nalini as a child, it weaves a bond they will share across galaxies. But what I also loved is that Nalini's glimpses into his future scares her and she sees him a cold blooded killer who bring darkness and des ...more

It’s a good book like ... cool but don’t have The Thing. You keep reading and reading and something is missing ,the story could be so much better she just should have split in more books. The characters were good i liked a lot Kai he was ruthless and kind, Naline was cool enough but she also lacked something I don’t know i expected more from her.The universe of the book were good ,the secondary characters too. The narrative could be better I started reading this book because a thought its was a r ...more

I finished this in one very late night- the story is beautiful. Just beautiful. The writing voice is spot on for an epic tale that spans through the years, through different ages of maturity, and perfectly outlines how two different people fit together so well. The world building is fantastic- it’s sprinkled in just the right amount throughout the novel, detailed yet consumable, gradually peeling back layers from the character’s microcosmic perspective to that of larger empires and battles. Compelling Storyline

I read this book mostly in one night. It's a good thing it was a Saturday night so I could sleep late the next day! As an original story, there are plenty of hints dropped that make you want to read more about this universe. Not all main characters actually grow in understanding during the story. Both Kai and Nalini do, in power, strength, determination, understanding, and love. That's why I can recommend this book to friends. I can see some of John Cambell's Hero archetype i

I'm not sure I can really explain how I feel about this book. It was an interesting mixture of dichotomies: the writing was spare but the book was full-length; there was little in the way of sex on the page yet the main characters have an absolutely epic romance; I couldn't tell you many of the planet or ship names and little of the political make-up but somehow I was fully immersed in their world. Though it seems like it takes a long time for some things to happen (not a negative for me though ...more

"Space fantasy": if this is a new genre of romance me likey! Part SFR & part fantasy romance.
I enjoyed the story, the characters as well as the storyline. I love the magic & that it had highly sentient animals (wolves, among others). I did not quite like the language which is very contemporary.

The romance is wonderful. A bonding that starts at their first meeting & even though Nalini and Kai are very rarely physically in one another's presence for probably more than half the book, th

I really did enjoy this book. Complete fantasy romance, which I do love. This is about Nalini who has been a captive at the mercy of the Warlord of their multi-world kingdom. She is living a lie and pretends she does not have magic. Kai, he is a seer and he discovers that he is to be the darkness to this world but that in the future his only hope to not destroy the world is if he has Nalini by his side. Nalini had saved Kai's life at one point in time when they were young. He has always liked he ...more

I really enjoyed this book.

1st, No cliffhanger!! This is a complete story in itself, but does leave it open for other characters and future generations stories to be told. Which I would like to read (Hint hint). Soon.
Great sci-fi action with elements of fantasy and yes, there's a romance in the story too. However, the (adult) romance is not the center of the story instead, you learn each of the main characters history in a way blends perfectly together with each other.

Best origin story I've read

Okay. I'm not the biggest fan of space fantasy. My best friend is though, and he begged me to find something spacy so when I came across this, I said why not.
The intro is difficult to get through, but written well. The actual plot? Holy shit. This book really gets into it once it hits preset day. About the halfway point. I couldn't put it down. The characters are not exactly relatable, but they aren't supposed to be. They do pull you into their plight though.

The book seemed like a view from 20,000 feet. There was little depth to relationships or characters. It felt like the author had much of the story in her head and failed to tell me, leaving me with insufficient foundation.

As a side note, I much prefer leaving goodreads' reviews. On amazon the author is reliant on reviews for placement. I find it difficult to give 5 stars to a fine escapist read the same as I would to a Dostoevsky book. I often prefer a 3 star read to something like I Know Why t

Interesting read with an interesting premise. I liked the idea of light and dark being two parts of a whole. The world building was well done, although I couldn’t help by seeing ideas taken from other space operas (the massive super weapon was a giant sphere, like a certain other space opera)

Another issue I had, it felt a bit rushed, as if a trilogy of books had been condensed into a single book.
Also the sex scene towards the end felt gratuitous and unnecessary. It felt like out of place and poo

I stayed up to 3am to finish this novel. SO GOOD. Scent of a pining hero. Kai... he could've done the 'destroy the galaxy for one person' quite convincingly in his single mindedness, he was actually quite compassionate and had moments where he seemed like a normal enamoured guy. Adorkable. While Nalini wasn't kickass, she did have a backbone and became a product of her experiences. Don't worry she was solid at the end. I did have a moment in the end when I got mixed up with all the K characters ...more

This is the first book I have ever read by May Sage, and I gotta be honest the cover captured my eye.  I read the blurb of course, but I love the cover.
Kai and Nalini’s story spans decades and sage weaves that tale effortlessly.  Theirs was such an epic love story I was sad that there wasn’t more.  I wanted this book to be longer or to have another book.

Reign is such a mix of magic, political intrigue, love story and epic fantasy all rolled into one.  It was an exhilarating adventure, and I

Once Upon A Time, there was a little girl who just loved telling her own stories. Fast-forward about seventeen years? Not a lot of change, there.

My mother's collection of novels extends to three rooms, the stepfather who raised me writes awesome short stories: really, I didn't have a choice, I caught a bug.

I absolutely love writing, and I thought it was past time I shared some of my work.
