This was an enjoyable 4.5 Star read. I really liked how the characters were placed in opposition to each other from the beginning. I thought the story was well plotted out, and the twist at the end was a surprise that could not have been predicted. It seemed believable to me that a woman who had married above “her station” in that time period, who then lost both her husband and solid financial footing, would be agreeable to work as a seamstress in France on assignment for the British government. ...more

An entertaining read 4.5*.
After the death of her husband, Juliet is ostracised by the ton due to her humble origins and the salacious gossip of her former in-laws. She is approached to carry out a task of national importance in France, to which she agrees, little knowing that she will also have to pose as wife to her travelling companion. An enjoyable tale of romance and intrigue, though I would have liked to know what happened to Robert and Lettie.

Juliet is desperate for money and accepts a spying assignment in France. Unfortunately it’s with Alastair, Viscount Chisholm and they do not approve of each other. As they work together, their attitudes change but can anything develop once they return to England. They have quite an adventure during dangerous times. This was an entertaining read. I was given a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is a recency romance with some intrigue thrown in. Set in Paris during the turmoil of the revolution and the war between England and France, our hero and heroine go undercover to unmask a courier network for spies running through a dressmaker's shop. Though a Duchess by marriage, Juliet was a seamstress before she wed.
