Has anyone ever told you how special you are? How great you could be at anything if you just put your mind to it?

They were lying.

There are people, Shadows, who really can do anything. They walk like gods among us, speaking with the dead and tearing their enemies apart with a simple thought. Some live unchained by death, and others live without the shroud covering what to

This book arrived in the mail and before I could warn her, my daughter picks it up and says, “You’re reading a book with a kitty on the cover!” Then she peers closer and with a look of horror on her face sighs, “oh, of course, it’s bleeding” and drops it like a hot potato as I laughed. OF COURSE! Sheesh, what kind of monster must she think I am? And how is this child even mine?!

I wasn’t sure what to expect of this book after reading the synopsis but it intrigued me enough to accept a revie

Once again Foster has proved to be an excellent horror/comedy writer. Mind Wreck is an action-packed thriller with sci-fi elements and laugh-out-loud funny moments. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and I highly recommend it to everyone who likes their horror mixed with other elements of fiction. This book is tons of fun.

Matthew Reed has been having migraines. He doesn't think they are anything special, but he's also having very vivid dreams. During the day he works a cash register at a dead end

MIND WRECK - SHADOW GAMES is the 3rd novel released by J.Z. Foster since the beginning of the year. Yes you did read that right,,,since the beginning of this year. WITCH HUNTER was released in Jan, THE WICKED ONES (my review of which appears on this blog) was released in Feb and this novel was released in March. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two, but this 3rd outing is the best yet.

I have to admit that reading this book made my head hurt. Not in a negative way, but because the authors narrative

From my blurb for JZ Foster

"The first installment in the MIND WRECK series will knock you on your ass. J. Z. Foster has created a world where anything can and will happen, with thrills and twists and humor. Pick this one up. You won't be sorry." - Justin M. Woodward, Author of The Variant and Tamer Animals

This was amazing! To quote from the book-this story speeds along “like a murderous freight train!” I loved this world and all of the characters that inhabit it. Do yourself a favor and read this -you won’t be sorry!

Matthew Reed was living a below average life. He went from home to home in the foster care system and now he just broke up with his girlfriend, he works a minimum wage job and barely gets by. Life is about to change for him but not in a way that he would like. He’s been having bad headaches and is getting visitations from a woman who he’s not sure is real.

One night he lets a stray cat into his apartment and to his shock discovers that the cat is dead and is being controlled by the spirit of his

With his third outing, Foster brings to you Mind Wreck. it is balls to the wall thrill ride, splashed with the authors comedic timing and I found myself wanting more. A roller coaster of emotion that will drain you and put a smile on your face. Foster’s strength is in his characters and with Mind Wreck he doesn’t disappoint. He takes you, the reader, and the people in this book and plays with the strings like only a master puppeteer can. I can’t recommend this book enough, whether you’re a retur ...more

I want to thank J.Z. Foster for sending me a copy of his book in exchange for an honest review. Matthew Reed is just an ordinary guy, working a dead-end job. He suffers from migraines and has extremely vivid dreams. His search for answers begins with the arrival of his father and carries on across country, right to the very last page. He discovers that there are people (Shadows) who can really do anything (speak with the dead, tear enemies apart with a single thought, live unchained by death, or ...more

I just finished "Mind Wreck: Shadow Games" by JZ Foster and I loved a lot of things about it. The concept and execution of the plot was damn good, I loved the two main characters and their dialogue was hilarious and real (they talked like I talk). If I had to compare it to something you might have read, I'd say it was "Carrion Comfort" meets "Necroscope" (minus the vampires) in the best way. The story is about a supernatural race of humans that live among us and have their own constant conflicts ...more

This is one of the best books I've reviewed in a while, this easily makes my top ten. It snares you from the first sentence and opens up into its own universe, then takes you on quite a thrill ride from start to finish! I could see this easily expanding into a sequel or a trilogy, there is so many directions this could go and still stay within the original story thread! The humor was great, kept it from being too heavy with the horror. This is a masterfully balanced, engaging, horrifying, hold o ...more

Evan Clark is a Shadow and he plays games. Matthew Reed is hopelessly average – or so he thought. Together, they are going to make things interesting. When you add in some dead folks, a few demons, and a formerly deceased cat – you know you are in for an attention-grabbing read.

The race to elude The Russian is on and Evan and Matthew will need all of the help they can get. Too bad most other Shadows aren't particularly trustworthy. I'm not adding spoilers, because I think they ruin the joy of di

This wrecked my mind!!

J.Z. Foster has a great writing style that sucks you in. He does a fantastic job of making you feel like you're part of the story, as if it's all playing out right in front of you. There's a little humor mixed in with the action and I love that! I couldn't stop pacing as I read this book, and I need more!!

Great Read!

Matthew Reed has never fit in; he always knew that he was different. It's not until he meets his dad that he realizes just how different he is...and how powerful he is. The world as he knows it will change with each breath he takes, becoming more dark and dangerous every day. The only bright spot is Leah, and he must get to her before the darkness does. Full of danger, dead, and adventure Mind Wreck: Shadow Games is a great book to start a venture into urban fantasy. J. Z. Fosters del

This is my third JZ Foster book, and I do believe I’ll forever be a fan! As the book went on it got better and better.

Mind Wreck is full of action and suspense, but with some lighter moments thrown in for good measure.

Matthew and his father are reunited and try to avoid The Russian, however they end up getting thrown right into the Shadow Games whether Matt is ready or not!

Matthew is an ordinary guy just living a life like you and I, in a world no different than ours. At least that's what he thought. Will he be able to keep up with the battles he's about to face or will he be dragged into the depths of hell??
J.Z. Fosters writing ability is out of this world. Just like this novel Mind Wrecked. You never really know what is out there or what happens when you die but this book just might open a whole new world for you.. Another fantastic job.

J.Z Foster is an author who doesn't let his foot off the gas pedal. I have previously read his other two books (Witch Hunter and The Wicked Ones) and loved both. This book has a number of strange elements (in a good way!) that all blend together! The story is intriguing, the characters are well constructed and the world it inhabits is thoroughly enjoyable!

My only negative - I want to know more about the back story! So hoping there is a future release related to this!

A blend of snarky humor and fast paced action with just enough horror to keep you on edge.

Here we have the third book by rising horror / urban fantasy author J.Z Foster. This time the horror is dialed back just a bit, but don't take that to mean that horrific things don't happen. After all, this story starts out with a murder being committed in which a person is drowned in his vomit. See, horrific. Also a decaying cat plays an important role in the story, so there's that.

This book falls in the m

I enjoyed this book. It is darker than the other books Mr. Foster has written, and it required a bit of concentration to follow all the characters. However, as is typical of his writing style the various people remained in character throughout.

The story begins with the death of Evan, who dies trying to protect his son Matthew. Or does he?

There is a whole organization of people with strange powers, as well as rebels with the same type of powers. The book covers a set of skirmishes between the or

J.Z. Foster has restored my love for Urban Fiction!
Make no mistake, this is not Urban Fantasy Fiction. This is Urban Horror Fiction, paranormal suspense horror. The storyline is dark, the sequences brutal. The old folklore that is drawn upon had not been modernized and glitterfied, but instead remains true to its terror-inspiring origins. That being said, the dark horror and suspense are masterfully balanced with dark humor, for a very thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. It takes place in t

Got this as an ARC for honest review.
Matthew Reed has no idea what's coming, until a Dead cat stops by to have a conversation with him one night. Before this, Matthew simply lived a normal everyday life of working, going home, trying to sleep and repeat, but not only does he find a Dead cat talking to him but the Dead thing states he is Matthew's father and needs to prepare him for the so-called Shadow Games. Matthew finds out that he is a psionist and needs to be able to defend himself from wha

Foster Does It Again!!!

Oh my gods... What can I say, Foster has managed to effortlessly pull me into his world of the paranormal, and left me struggling to climb back out - I didn't want to leave!

His characters, every single one of them, are fascinating and fit in extremely well with the storyline. Foster doesn't waste time on boring descriptive paragraphs, but instead delivers each and every chapter with such velocity that you can't help but read just one more chapter, only to realize you've ac

This is a great blending of what I would consider horror and science fiction. Skillfully written and fantastically entertaining, I believe this would make a great movie! The mix of action, gritty horror and amazing story telling made this a true joy to read and I didn’t want it to end. I’m a huge fan of Mr. Foster now and am anxiously awaiting his next release!

Wow, this book is different than the last two! He's showing his versatility with each book, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers.

This one is about psychic warfare with comedy mixed in. You can expect laughs with lots of blood and murder. You can feel him building a mythos. I really hope it becomes a series.
